In this video we will be be having a look at a cam follower and replacing it after 20k .The high pressure fuel pump and cam follower is a common FSI failure. Checking the cam follower is basically maintenance.

I replaced the follower on my 2005 A3 2.0T, at “stage 1-2” wear as it sounded knocky like a diesel. Still not perfect but waaayyy quieter! Mine had the banjo bolt and no schraeder valve so I took the HPFP fuse out and took off the top sensor then ran it until it died. Took way less time than I thought, with that crappy banjo, too!

same here, bought jetta with bwa engine few months ago and changed today this plunger, the wear was still at stage 1 but at least now i have peace of mind that previous owner didnt wear it off till end

doing this tomorrow along with n80 purge valvue - hopfully get rid of this awful tapping / clicking noise this is great step by step! if this does not get rid of the noise would fule injectors be next?

Hey, what a fantastic video, you couldn't have given a better & more detailed explanation of this maintenance job. I've just subscribed. May I ask if you think this should be replaced already on my wife's TT? It is a late 2013 2.0 TFSI with 32k miles & standard (208bhp) not tuned in anyway. Thank you for the great work 😊

After 2013 tt will have a ea888 engine which has a different cam follower that doesn't suffer the same issue as it has a roller on the end

Nice video, I just completed my installation which was nice and easy, however, i had one issue with the top sensor connector it was very hard to unplug so i tried to wiggle the sensor plug off and it cracked which is on the high pressure pump. Would anyone know if i have damaged the high pressure pump??

@@CarChris82 Ive been driving the car with Nil issues. When you unplug the top sensor on the top of the high pressure pump its attached to the top section of the High pressure pump, that bit has is cracked so i put super glue in the crack. It appears the plastic is brittle so i took care.

I changed mine at 70,000 on a Edition 30, and there was nothing visibly wrong with it, now my car has done 138,000. I spoke to VW parts department, and according to them there is no advisory as to when to change it. Apparently if you tune your car then it's advised to change them more frequently. But i plan to have a look at mine this weekend as I've ordered a new one anyway, its better to be safe than sorry. Has anyone else being told there's no advisory?

Jetta 1.2 tsi mk6... my car has a problem of acceleration after a misfire while going up to high rpm. Could it be due to this part? There is a high pressure gas pump as a malfunction, but there is no problem in normal use and there is no sound from the pump. We could not fully resolve the issue. I would really appreciate if you can help.

A tsi has a roller follower not the bucket type so it could be a sensor or the hpfp it might be worth checking the fuel pressure on live data to see if there is a big drop off

Yes you can use some engine oil i just prefer to use the assembly lube as it sticks to the follower better until you start the engine

Engine oil is fine, that's what lubricates it all the time.

I have little 2016-S1 with for sure it’s 2.0 tfsi ea888 gen3 so .. does this (DIY) can be applied to S1 as well ? I don’t drive much, now at 20347 KM because my daily is 200K mk1 TTQ 😅 Thank you ! Your vid helped me to be aware of this a cam as important as it is😅

You don't need to do this yours is a different engine this is for ea113 engine only

@@CarChris82 oh yes after researching I got different part number n also different a cam follower as follow 6L109311, 06L109311 & I think it will be a bit difficult to DIY myself next time I don’t know! Btw Thank you 👍

I’ve released the pressure. Then I’ve went to loosen that 17 mm and fuel keeps coming out

Done mine today but don’t have a torx wrench (and it’s too late cos I’ve done it already). How tight should I tighten the bolts and what’s the danger of not tightening them to the exact amount you stated?

always best to torque them as you don't want to strip the thread in the head

@@CarChris82 used a t30 and wrench but just tightened them to what felt firm. Some said they can snap if too tight??

How often should this be replaced (roughly) ? Since it's not expensive at all, maybe with every oil change? I'm with 2.0 TFSI, BGB engine

I wouldn't think this would affect the turbo kicking in as this is for the hpfp also is your engine a ea888 or ea113 ?if a ea888 you shouldn't need to replace this
