VW Golf or Jetta MK4 TDI no AC fix

Common problem for VW mk4 AC compressor to not kick on... Dead radiator fans. If you turn the key and turn on AC, both radiator fans should come on. If not, AC compressor will not engage, and most likely one fan is dead. Replaced with $40 for both off ebay... And I have AC.

My ac wasn't working either and fans were not working but knew they were good as I just replaced them... also replaced fan module, high low (thrust sensor), checked all fuses.... ended up being my ac condenser coil was shot. Bought a new clutch coil and clutch.... now all is well.

Kevin A you mean your ac clutch. The condenser should not have any coil related parts inside it ?

compressor clutch do you mean? condensers dont have any "coils "?

I'm stumped with this on my 2000 Jetta TDI... my fans weren't kicking on so I checked the 30amp fuse on top of the battery and that was blown so I replaced it. Now the cooling fans kick on, and compressor clutch is turning, but air is still warm... also checked the fuses on the side dash compartment and those seem to be good... only things I can think of ate the relay or low freon

Mine is only the small fan kicking on, but all fuses are good. Will likely mean the big fan is bad I assume? It needs to be both fans kicking on?

Any ideas. When I turn on my ac and fan switch. The 2 cooling fans do kick on. But I tested no power going to the compressor. Replaced the 40amp fuse that was blown and the 30amp fuse is ok. Replaced the fcm already.

There's a couple other common issues. The pressure switch is one. It's a 3 prong and will hold the compressor out with too hi or too low of pressure. No way to jump it out. Also, there is a thermal cutoff of somekind located on the radiator. Something is holding out getting power to the comp. Could even be a bad AC button on your dash. Hope this helps

hmm... all my fuses are ok. The fans turn on when the key is turned to 'accessory' while the AC button is on. That compressor just won't kick in. I was using the AC just a week or so ago and it pumped out plenty of cold air. I changed my windshield wiper mechanism last Thursday, I wonder if I damaged something. 🤔

Dave Bowman some other things that could be keeping your compressor form kicking on: the pressure switch, radiator temperature sensor, fan control module (contains the compressor relay) I suggest you first unplug the connection to the compressor and see if u have voltage with the AC switched on and car running.

Thanks for that info. Is the compressor connector right down there on the compressor or is it someplace else? Thanks again!

@@allanmcilwain870 I took the skid plate off and immediately found the problem. Some critter had gotten up onto the skid plate and chewed through the wire leading to the compressor. I spliced it back together... now my A/C works again. Dang!! 🤣

My fans are coming on but compressor not kicking in any help would be great

MrJeepin88 i would first put a voltmeter to the wires to your compressor. You should have 12V. If so, compressor has issues. If not, another common issues is with the pressure switch. I'm pretty sure the relay that sends power to the comp. is also in the FCM, so that could have an issue. There's also the 3 30amp fuses on top of your battery. Hope this helps.

Any way to test if your pressure switch is bad?
@allanmcilwain870
@allanmcilwain870 4 года назад
Not really. Its a 3 prong switch that has both hi and low press cut off, so it not like u can just jump across it.
