Thank you for this one! I'm in California and begged VW to change its mind and release the ID.3 in the US. In the end, I decided to go ahead and order an ID.4, even though I really don't want an SUV. Your side-by-side and overlapping images at the start of the video really made me feel much better about my decision. It's higher and taller, but not really significantly larger. Can't wait for mine to get here (though I will miss my eGolf)! Thank you also, for pioneering the ID.3 and documenting VW's updates along the way. Your in-depth tutorial on the infotainment system puts to shame every other reviewer. If you ever come to San Diego I'd love to take you out to dinner.

It seems ID4 is "more car for the money", here in Norway ID3 turned out more expensive than expected while ID4 is cheaper than expected. But I don't need "more car" so I would go for the ID3 anyway. It just feels wrong to get a car which is bigger than what I need.

Same axle distance, same turning circle, just a bigger boot, towing capacity, roof rack and 4wd option for those Norge winters - more car indeed. 👍

No, it is about what you like more or want to afford. My guess it that an ID.4 is the better one in all regards except range and the cheaper cause you have less depreciation cause demand for such SUV family cars is a lot higher especially as used ones. ID.3 will be available in xillions cause that will the entry company car and therefore in most cases leased. All willl come back to second hand market where family cars are wanted and not the fleet of company cars. Therefore avoid the whole hazzle and get an id.4 cause you will spend less money over the whole time of ownership. Compare a Passat Limousine versus Passat Variant or VW Golf versus Tiguan and in most cases the family cars will win based on used price / paid price ratio . At the end you simply need just 1 buyer when you wanna sell it but the likelihood to achieve a higher price and less depreciation is higher for an ID.4 and that has not changed for decades.

@@typxxilps The ID.3 is a C-segment car with more interior space than a Golf, it is perfectly suitable as a family car. The ID.4 is oversized for most normal uses and will be harder to use in cities.

Just got my Id4, i prefer it over the Id3 but you are absolutely right it feels way heavier to drive. Longer range is what i like most after driving in the id3 58kw. Feels more comfortable. Also the breaking on the id4 is heavier, due to the weight, its not bad but the id3 58kw has a bit more breaking bite so t speak but my id4 is brand new maybe the brakes need to be broken in. Looking forward to your 1k Twingo challenge 👍 my wife maybe wants to buy one so maybe your review will help her decide like i did after seeing you reviews.

Hey Chris, I just wanted to tell you that I really enjoyed that video! Especially the Comparison of the specs and the size (with that freaky shift comparison) were pretty great! I personally like the ID.3 more, I don't need that much space like in the ID.4. Thank you for that Video, it was great fun!

There is no color ... the best without a doubt is the ID.3. It has a lower weight, which helps to have a better consumption than the ID.4, which means that the ID.3 with an equal battery, has greater autonomy. And both the interior space and the trunk of the ID.3, I have more than I need and of course at a lower price than the ID.4. For me, the ID.3, are all advantages over the ID.4.

The choice is obvious in North America, because we only get the ID4! I really wish the ID3 had come, but we seem to be to addicted to large SUVs.

We tried both cars. 2 kids of 9 and 12. None of us liked the ID 3 as seeting and drive comfort was not compelling. Plus the very cheap interior. ID 4 was greatly appreciated by the whole family. But because of price and missing discounts for the ID 4 we ordered the Skoda Enyaq iV 60. And now we are waiting.

Thanks Chris - seems ID4 (or US ID4) does not have the offline/online selection screen on startup that you complained about. Also I found out about the shortcut for the heated seat activation.

ID4 hits the sweet spot money wise here in Sweden. I had thought that I would buy an Enyaq but it is quite a bit more expensive for the 77kWh battery. ID4 is not that much more expensive than the ID3 here and with 2 teenagers the ID4 was a no-brainer.

Great videos thanks - helping out with out choice for a new EV. We're looking at the ID4. We go camping a lot and so need the space. Has anyone loaded it up and see what it's like? Boot full, 4 people, bikes on the back, box on the roof? Would love to know what it's like. I currently have a 2017 Tiguan and is to be replaced in May and that just ate the load. Or should I be looking at the Enyaq? Cheers.

The difference in size and space is like night and day. I have sat in both and id.3 is not by far as roomy. Id.4 is in reality much much bigger.

I love both the i.d.3 and i.d.4 but the sun roof is a killer here in the tropics. Let's hope they figure something else when they bring it into Costa Rica.

IONIQ 5 . 😄 I was very interested in getting the iD4 but the VW operating software in my Tiguan and your videos about it has changed my mind. Can’t get a iD4 until sometime in 24 probably anyway. plus we’re not getting the id3 in North America.

I would prefer Skoda Enyaq over the ID.4 as the armrest is wider and the regen-knob is easier to reach

Great channel - just subscribed. Moving from US to France next year and considering both ID3 and ID4. This video prompted me to test drive an ID4 today; obviously no ID3 available for comparison. Loved the smoothness, didn't like upright backseat that pushes on upper back with no lumbar support (compared to my X3, in which my kids frequently ride.) In lieu of asking this on a forum.....Chris, or anyone who has evaluated both ID3/4 - is the ID3 backseat similarly upright or does it have a more relaxed recline?

Hi Chris, Nice comparison, but I would like to warn buyers that this version is the 1st max and is FULLY loaded option wise. Basic ID.4 wont have some things you showed :) 2:22 - ID.4 1st [max] will be with 12 inch screen, but the next iterations will have 10 inch screen [Discover Pro], only 12" [Discover Max] with Tech or Max [Multimedia/Infotainment Plus]. So your initial thought was correct.

IT Dependance what I realy need for my daily driving? Für daily Use ID 3 is better , easyer to handle less consumption but for Transport and holiday Trips I guess ID 4

Personally looks wise id4 but I would have the id3 77kw pro s for the little things first door handles being mechanical instead of digital, the wipers give a better clearance but if money was no object then I would go enyaq 80x vrs , a better layout and less digital looking 4x4 and just as quick as the 77 pro s id3 with more room

3 minutes in and already 360 camera for parking, powered hatch, and memory seats (my wife is way shorter than me) makes the ID4 attractive. Just hope its not too big / wide. Range in the 52Kwh not great so that means 77 which means more expensive. How is the distance from seat to the ground? Easier to get in/out, get kids in/out in the ID4 or not much difference?

I wanted to have an ID4 in the size of an ID3. Too bad. Who needs those huge SUVs anyway?!? Won’t fit properly into most private underground parkings I know.

It all depends on the use of the car. Personally I prefer the ID3 to the ID4, In my case for daily use and in the centre of a big city like Madrid, 2 people inside, The boot and the space of the first is enough in my case, plus the almost 50 cm more of the second and the weight would penalize. If I bought an ID 4 with the equipment of the first max edition I would have a price difference of about 15000 €. Honestly, the benefits of the id4 do not compensate me.

but that is a pretty short view cause in the second the ID.4 can be ordered in a free configuration like the ID.3 things will change immediately. The depreciation of an ID3 is far, far higher than those of an ID.4 cause demand for ID.4 as a family car or SUV or Kombi is far, far higher and on top ID.3 is the usual company car and there for the second market will be flooded with those 3 year old ID.3 but ID.4 will be missing while demand is very high even higher in Spain than in Germany cause birthrate is usually higher in Spain. Lot of spanish dealers try to get those cars for Madrid or at least Madrid suburbs.

@@typxxilps id3 first max 3240km 41500€, id4 first max NEW unless i wait for it 6 months minimum with same equipment 58000€. 3 years later, 115000 km, id3 posibly 15000 or 20000€, id4 31500 or 36000€?, if You do not need a bigger car Will You pay that prize?, it is only double money... Remember vw golf is the first used car looked for in Spain, not a suv or another kind of car.

Id.4 is a „Dickschiff“...a tanker. I put our egolf next to it....the egolf felt like a Shrinked Polo. Next thing would be the Allwheeldrive...hope it will catch up to the id.3. I‘m thinking of the Mustang....normally i would go for the 99 kWh, but the extra weight will consume the advantage and my wallet. Sometime less is more!

@@abraxastulammo9940 But when you do it like VW in Winter, your heatlost should be even worse. More batteryweight means more heatmass. Than the usable batterysizes shrinks from 77 to almost 58. Its kind of useless. Summer is a diffrent story. When you want good travelconsumtion and average speed you car needs to streamlined. And even lighter for citydriving. Thats why Suv in a Bev is the worst design form. That is Anti Marketing and promotes Diesel an H2.

@@POTThaesslich no, if you do not have the extra cash for the ID.4 then buy a Skoda Enyaq and you be damn happy cause you will get a good equipped car at a lower price than the ID.3 and you will get an umbrella stored in the drivers door too. If you live in Portugal not the best maybe but at least in germany quite usefull unless you are a summer and no rain only driver

When you stop, parking brake engages. No need to keep your foot on the brake. Nice when in the city. But annoying when you are just stoping for a second.

@@BatteryLife it doesn't vary with the amount of pedal pressure you put on? I think Mercedes does it that way, but it's been a while since I've driven one. For ice cars they should also do it that way with the engine start stop. Had an A1 when I was in Europe last and it had a tendency to turn off at the worst moments! Otherwise I hate using fuel at a long light.

You missed that id.4 has heated windshield, double glass front Windows, better build materials. Its also 5 seater, tours is not. Tour has transmission tunnel, id4 not. Btw they already build id.5 models

Any car, (including Id4) that has even a pretence to be an SUV needs ample ground clearance. This measure is seldom given in RU-vid assessments, and is more important than the minutiae of menu structure etc. Even manufacturers don’t always give this info in promotional material. Maybe because EV’s are so abysmal in this regard. However there is one UK reviewer who is good enough to get down and dirty with a tape measure for his viewers. Good work though Chris. Especially the trials and tribulations of ID3 ownership.

We have the ID3 now since October but never again. The software and service are a mayor disappointment and VW should be ashamed for it. As a first mover they don’t provide any support to you. Already waiting 5 months now for tow hook. We have driven VW all of our live but this is a dealbreaker.

ID.4 is the king for everyone at least if you do not fear a bit less range. If you do not have the money then lend it cause the key question will be: who pays for depreciation If you pay for it then get an ID.4 cause its depreciation will be A LOT smaller cause demand for SUV and family cars is high and will be high in past, present and the future. Compare a GOLF versus a TOURAN and even there the winner was the TOURAN due to space and family demand. So ID.4 will have a far higher demand on second market in 2023 and onwards cause there is close to non competition. And on top of that ID.3 depreciatio will suffer a lot by the fleet of company and leasing cars that will flood the market soon but ID.4 is not suffering from such desease. If you lease a car it is a different story except you get a SKODA ENYAQ cause lease plans of the SKODA are usually cheaper than those of the VW ... and then you benefit twice: lower car price (Enyaq will be cheaper when you will be able to configure the car same way as the id.3 now) and lower lease rates in % Therefore always go for the ID.4 or ENYAQ first cause you will save money over the whole time of ownership ... If money does not count get what you prefer but then - if money does not count but fun - I would go for another VW car like the Porsche Taycan which is like an outerspace experience every time I get in.

I don't understand how it would be less range. id.4 only has one model with lower battery, all others have better range than id.3. unless you mean that magically everyone would select id.3 tour (which they don't). Example id.4 pro has range on 520km.

Get none, EVs are overhyped overpriced unreliable means of transportation because of variation between winter and summer driving, and because of high purchase price, they are bad for household economy...

To each his own opinion, but the fact is EVs are generally much more reliable than ICE cars. I've been driving my eGolf for six years. In all that time I have replaced the battery in the key fob twice, and put new tires on the car. That has been the total upkeep expense. Where I live we don't get harsh winters, so the range loss is minimal. If it works for Chris in Germany, and other people I've seen with ID.3s in Norway and Sweden, then most of us in the US have nothing to fear on that front.

@@fshepinc with reliable I mean a car you can predict, I know that EVs require minimal maitenance. In terms of economy, because of the very high purchase price, there is no point of buying if you want to keep costs down...
