Maybe part of the high consumption is because it is so spacious. It takes much more energy to heat up a larger volume of air, and to keep the temperature, because there are so many ways the heat gets lost from the cabin.
@chazsmith4351
@chazsmith4351 Год назад
I think you're right. Good way to test would be if Bjorn could get one of the cargo vans and run the same test. The cargo van should only have to heat up the front portion of the cabin and not the cargo portion. Though there may be some leakage there. Seems that with all those windows there would be lots of heat loss.
@volkswagen_transportbilar
@volkswagen_transportbilar Год назад
We did a 640 km test of the Cargo against the Pro here in Sweden (in Oct and +10 degrees, so not winter) and got 8% less energy consumption on the Cargo (23,8 KWh vs. 25.8 KWh). But then the Cargo is also almost 150 kg lighter in the spec we used.

Increase of 18-25% is actually pretty good from summer to cold winter, I would think. It is just that consumption as such is very high (van) and the battery in my opinion too small for a van which is often used for long trips. Many will probably even want to tow a small trailer and go about 400km at 100kmh on a highway before taking a break. That is then with trailer probably more than double of what the Buzz will manage even in summer. Ithink it could be a nice option but 9nly with a 100-120kWh battery at the very least. 🤷‍♂️
@onlineo2263
@onlineo2263 Год назад
I wanted a Buzz until I saw how poor the range was. We drive at 120kmh, and the range at that speed is terrible in all weather. Definitely needed a much larger battery 125kw+ would be ideal... But even 100kw would have been much more useful for road trips. We live in the UK and travel in school holidays so most chargers above 50kw are hard to come by and have long queues at the times we travel! Tesla has not opened up it network except at about 10-15 supercharger sites. So fast charging is not useful and there will be no ID Buzz for us. We will keep the Tesla instead.

the reason why it doesn't have same decrease rate as 90km/h run is, that the increased time of using heater makes more effect on range of 90km/h run because of low speed.

For the benefit of people (like me) in the UK and elsewhere that think in miles/kWh, this comes out to... 2.33 miles/kWh at 52mph, and 1.75 miles/kWh at 68mph. Vaguely in line with what I get from my Vivaro-e, though I haven't got enough numbers for it in sub-zero temps yet. Cold is a killer, clearly. Takeaways? 1) forewarned is forearmed 2) Drive slow, be ready to charge more. Thanks Bjorn.

It seems to have just Slightly better mileage than the stellantis vans, but i think it seems to have a bit better range at high speeds and low temps. Probably better battery temp management. I have a peugeot e-expert and get a bit over 350wh/km at 110 at similar temps, so i suspect i would be over 400 at 130. The buzz is a much smaller internal volume though, so really it makes more sense to compare it to the kangoo e-tech.

~170 miles at 55mph (90kph) is a bit rough for a van, which is often meant for long trips... VW needs to add a heatpump asap. And maybe an extra 10kwh to the pack, then it would become much more practical.

I remember commenting few months ago, that ID Buzz won't be sufficient enough in winter for highway driving. I can't imagine the pain people would have to go through if they were to travel in minus degrees on highway for few hundred kilometers, the consumption is just too high. If you compare it to diesel van, the difference is even more striking.
@shmadmanuts
@shmadmanuts Год назад
Well... the diesel van will spend almost nothing to heat the car after the engine is warm. In an EV - the battery will lose energy to heat the car. but how much? 1-2 kW/h? Also, with only the driver, won't air recirculation waste way less energy than getting fresh warm air constantly?
@DG-uv3zw

@@shmadmanuts It`s not just the energy to heat the cabin. It`s much more then that. IDs have never been known for good winter consumption - with such a large vehicle, this has an even clearer effect. If possible, the area for the ski holiday should not be further than 190km away, with a stopover then about 300km. Everything else then becomes laborious.

Cabin heating is an issue even in fossil vans of that size, the large outside surface area and large % of window are are significant loss. The relative % change difference between high and low speed makes at least mathematical sense, too if cabin heating is a relevant factor. Cabin heat is constant per time and not distance or speed, so its relative impact is lower at high traction energy consumption. Maybe you have the cabin heater numbers in the app?
