When the Alternator belt broke, A new one needed fitting How to change the vw polo 1.4 drive belt 2009 the belt is a 6 rib 1080 length. the video shows how to replace and also what to look for including the belt route.
Alterativley, you could remove the plastic cover under the car and have access to the crankshaft, and you can release the pulley with a socket wrench easily, if you dont have a narrow spanner... But this video still helps alot either way.
great vid. I have a 2010 1.4 automatic and there was room to get my hand down under the crank and ac pulleys. I did ask the mrs to put the belt on the alternator pulley as i held the spanner on the tensioner and the belt on the crank with the other hand.
Had a squeek for a few weeks, got the MOT sorted and decided couldn't be arsed to change the timing-belt myself, just don't have the time. made appointment to get it replaced at the MOT shop for next week, because wasn't sure about the squeek and it had run 90.000KM on last belt change. it sounded like a dry bearing on either a pulley or on of alternator/coolant pump or ac compressor, but the alternator pulley wasn't running hot, so had to wait untill the fixdate. No surpise when the Alternatorbelt tensioner pulley desintegrated on the motorway, got lucky though, after quick stop and check, belt was half the width and not tensioned anymore but still spinning the alternator, so managed to bring her home slowly. Will have to change belt and pulley today or can't get it to the MOT shop. Single bolt on the pulley shouldn't be too hard.... i hope
Just a quick question, isn't easier to unscrew the two 20Nm bolts of the alternator and just have the alternator hang for a bit till you put the new belt and then just tighten the alternator bolts rather than messing around with the tensioner? Please let me know. Nice video!
@@aaanton11 yeah, now I saw that you can just spin it a bit while in its place without taking it out using that T50 torx key or you can just push it by hand and release the belt tension. It looked complicated because you took it out 😂 but I don't have to take it out or replace it as my car has done only 18000 miles since it was manufactured.
Thanks for your info - my polo engine stopped over year ago, said compression pressure gone down - gasket needs to be upgraded - after this done the car was running just recently the car stopped again, the car engine turns but not starting, the mechanic told the car needs timing belt changing and it never had replacement (mileage 135000), he said the pressure gone down. Please tell me if the timing belt replaced the car would start or may be some more works to be done. Please kindly advise me. Please note that I have replaced new spark plugs as well, so spark plugs and coils are fine.
So this is different to the timing chain/ belt? Is it true that is the cover is plastic its a belt and if its a metal cover its chain driven? I hear the chains go bad on the 1.4L polos.
Yes, this is different to the timing chain. It is true that timing chains can cause problems if the engine oil is not replaced regularly, but if you look after your engine and replace the oil they can last a lifetime. Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Bxw engine I believe this looks exactly the same as similar aged mk5 seat ibiza 1.4 I'm planning to to do soon nice to know it can be done from the top. Great content love the city flag (leicester boy here) cheers.
my car broke the alternator belt and water pipe burst, now im so scared about this situation, my question is, if i replace new belt will car running good or there will be more damaged on the engine which i dont know?
chain driven engines last indefinitely, belt drive I have seen go to more than 140000 miles on a belt, but its risky to run over the service interval, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Different belts for different models, go to the amazon link in the description and enter your registration number at the top and the correct belt will pop up, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Up date: the serpentine belt on my polo disintegrated, slipping into the cam belt cover, messing up the cam timing and destroying, well bent all the valves.. The pistons were already stuffed so written the car.. So keep ur belt new..!!
