VW T4 Transporter 1.9 TD Auxiliary Water Pump Replacement & Coolant Change. Volkswagen Transporter / Caravelle / Multivan / Doka.
There are two kinds of connectors for these pumps, one has a square connector and plug (like mine) and the other has an oval type. It is probably best to check what type you have before ordering.

Almost 8 years later and the replacement Bosch auxiliary water pump is still working perfectly.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a kind comment. I have a few videos planned that are not focused on repairs, just waiting for some decent weather!

I've got a sensor which has developed a temp fault, dropping to nothing on long drives. I'll use this info before replacing it thanks

Thanks for sharing this video - it's very helpful. Just wondering what you did with the water that you used to flush the system with. I gather that coolant needs to be disposed of at a waste site, but did you contain all the de-ionised water you used and dispose of it that way?

All liquids were disposed of at my local recycling centre. There is a huge tank where engine oil and other liquids can be disposed of. It appears to be a heating oil storage tank. In the end I took a full 25 litre drum containing the old coolant and the contaminated deionised water.

Hi. thanks for the vid. Just purchased my 1st T4 and this has come in very handy for me to complete myself. Quick question - where is the coolant temp sensor located as i am looking to change this on my T4 1.9TD as well. thanks Mark

Thanks for sharing this video. I've found it via a search as I have a 1A drain on my battery and its the fuse that controls the rad fans/run on. On one of the T4 forums, someone suggested disconnecting this pump, is it possible that if faulty could cause a battery drain? Thanks

Which engine does your van have? All I can suggest is this, disconnect the pump, use a multi-meter to test the supply, if there is power when there shouldn't be you need to look at why, the pumps power is controlled via a temp sensor, it could be that the temp sensor is at fault and not the pump. My auxiliary pump runs for around 30 minutes after the engine is switched off. Run time for the aux pump is governed by the temp sensor. Hope you get it sorted.

How does it affect the car when it's broken like the one on the video bc mines overheard bc it's leaked coolant from the part so idk if I replace it it would fix the problem of overheating ,it just happened today

I found the fuse for the radiator fans and auxiliary water pump was missing when I was replacing another fuse, the fuse could have been missing for years. When I replaced the fuse the radiator fans and pump started to work, although the pump made a loud squeeling noise, I guess this is why the fuse was removed in the first place. I had owned the van for many years before I discovered the fuse was missing, in that time the van never overheated once, I guess they just dont run that hot, or maybe lucky on my part. I would start by having a look at the main water pump if your van is overheating.

Hi . i got a vw t4 1.9td 1995 . and and recently I noticed that auxiliary pump is disconnected and put an elbow directly but the car is going well, what is the pump for ?

It runs after the engine is switched off, keeps the coolant circulating. I would not worry about it too much, mine was disconnected for many years without ever having any kind of problem, I found the fuse was removed and when I re-connected it the pump started squealing, clearly the reason the fuse had been removed, this also meant the radiator fans were not working either, probably did around 70,000 miles with it like that. If the fuse has been removed your radiator fans may not be working, not a problem in the U.K, but could be in places with a warmer climate.
