Hey Ernie, I've tried all sorts over the years, 23 yrs in the Army and always desperate for a good cup of coffee. I thought the Aeropress for sure is a great system, but a bit bulky, when travelling on my motorbike so tried the Wacaco Pipamoka recently, not effective and again quite bulky, but like the thermal mug. So now have just gone back to the faithful simple strainer. No idea what brand mine is but it's very similar to the MSR Mugmate filter. You put the filter in your mug, add coffee, pour over, drink - leave the filter a minute or 2, bash out the grounds in a bin or a bush (obviously totally organic), repeat!. No waste at all, no need for filters and very little cleaning if any as once dry you just tap it clean. They are cheap, compact and lightweight, simple and effective. Now I love a good gadget, but sometimes the simplest solutions are the best ones! Maybe a blind test with the finished brews to see if taste has any affect on the best product? All the best, from England, Mike

Have you seen the Titanium Moka Pot by Maxi? It's expensive and makes about 5 to 6 oz. and is bundled with a cup.. Thanks for the great coffee ideas

Another excellent video! My ultimate travel coffee kit would be based around the West Loop travel mug by Contigo. It's available in 16,20, and 24 ounce sizes. The lid, once removed can be opened to expose the inner workings for more effective cleaning. Push a button to take a sip, release and it is spill resistant. Push the lock button and it is practically spill proof for the most part. The curved contours make it easier to hold due to my carpel tunnel and arthritis issues. The larger the diameter the harder it is to hold...and the more painful as of late! This has been my hands down favorite travel mug for years. I have tried others, but they all fall short. Any pour over system, for me, must be compatible with this mug.

Aaargh... I gotta cut myself off from watching your channel. Especially the Perfect Coffee topic!!! I'm out of control when it comes to having THE PERFECT ON THE GO Brewing System. I'm losing count on the number of coffee gizmos I've purchased through your influence. I'm so weak! 😂

Very interesting. Seems like a great way to brew a small coffee for one. I really like the pour over concept mostly because , when it comes to clean up, it is so easy.

My vote goes for the Wacaco Nanopresso. I also bought the Barista kit (to have a double espresso option), an adapter for coffee capsules (as a backup), and their thermos (it can be attached directly to the espresso maker). That's my travel/outdoor setup choice. And yes, I'd probably buy the Fire Maple Polaris (after watching your review)

Looks like a nice set up. The difficulty of finding number 1 cone filters would bother me a little, but since they are available online it's not really an issue (as you said). I like my Wacaco Pipamoka, but the clean up for it is a bit more than I would want to do in a hotel room.

Interesting product... might have to give it a try. Currently, I'm hooked on using a titanium French Press I bought a few years ago. Have you tried those? I put 16 ounces of water in the pot, bring it to a boil, add my preferred amount of coffee, place the plunger in the cup and depress it about a half inch below the water's surface and let the coffee brew for 5 minutes, push the plunger down to the bottom and pour the coffee into a cup and enjoy. No filters needed, but one needs another container to pour the brew into to enjoy. The cup of the press fits outside my cylindrical water bottles in my side pouches. Just have to disassemble the press portion to pack in my pack for transport so that's a bit of a negative for that system as is disposal of the coffee grounds. Oh the pains we endure to enjoy a nice cuppa in the back-country. ;-)

Another great review as always. :) I think this would pair super well with one of those portable thermos kettles. You can get them in 120V (for the office, hotels, etc) or 12V for in your car. I picked both up and they've been amazing; haven't stopped for coffee on a road trip in years. Just fill it up, plug it in the lighter plug, and 10 minutes later you've got boiling water. I usually just add a Starbucks via, but something like this Cuppamoka would be next level.

Looking forward to your find of the best travel/day hike coffee maker. I love my Stanley travel French press coffee maker but what a mess to clean up. Takes excess water to wash grounds out which I normally don't have on day hikes. Watching with earnest. TY

Looks like it works well but I think that I will stick with my Stanley "The Perfect Brew" Pour Over Set when weight isn't a concern and my handy little pour over net thingy that fits over most cups when it is.
@fallyn2920

never managed a good pour over with that. must the coffee be really course or go cowboy coffee first and pour it into there after?
@saber1able
@saber1able 10 месяцев назад
@@fallyn2920 Finer coffee will work but takes a while longer. Course ground coffee works best for me. The fact that you don't have to buy filters, it's easy to clean and Stanleys stuff is basically bomb proof are bonuses as well.

For travel it is VERY hard to argue with good instant. Small immersion heater optional. Brewing coffee is more of a trail thing. (Only when you've got room in your pack for all that -crap- gear.)

It's Wacaco, not Wacoco. Most of Wacaco's coffee brewing systems are well thought out and do a pretty good job at brewing coffee. My only knock on this one is that it uses disposable filters.
@StevenKeery
@StevenKeery 10 месяцев назад
I'm wondering why you would take an alcohol stove with you on your travels, as any hotel room I have ever slept in has an electric kettle to boil water. Secondly, wouldn't the fumes or vapour from the alcohol stove, activate the smoke, or carbon monoxide detectors in the hotel room? Thirdly, if the steel cup is double walled to insulate the coffee contents, isn't there a risk it will rupture in a baggage hold that is not pressurised? Most hotels supply cups and a kettle to boil water in the room. So all you really need is a simple filter holder, placed on top of the cup. Then insert a paper filter and coffee of your choice, pour over hot water and add milk and sugar as required. A simple plastic filter holder will not cost $40 and will be easy to pack, along with the paper coffee filters. Simple, uncomplicated, cheap.
@mikevandebunt811
@mikevandebunt811 10 месяцев назад
A metal double walled cup is WAY stronger than needed to survive in an aircraft baggage hold. The best ones are vacuum insulated, which completely eliminates the problem. (I don't know if the Wacaco is vacuum insulated or not.)

I don't get the whole pour over obsession. Take time to boil, then slowly pour water, 10 minutes for 5-10 oz of coffee. I can use my Stanley boil and brew and make several cups of coffee in the same time
