Wadia 581 SE (Special Edition) SACD player which doesn't read discs and has no digital Inputs or Out

If you do have diagrams for input / output section of this player (or models 16, 860, 961) please let me know, for I'd like to build one for this player and for the 301 Wadia that is almost finished.
This is quality engineering and best DSP in the business but still does not read neither CDs nor DVDs. Hopefully when new lasers come from my Sydney supplier, I will see an improvement. None of the 3 lasers that came with this unit could do any reading but this is not the first time that this happened. This is probably because people usually buy the cheapest units they can find, instead of looking at the track record of the seller.
This unit uses 24 bit Burr-Brown PCM-1704 laser trimmed, resistor ladder DAC chips. Probably the most expensive audio DACs ever made. And it has 4 of them.
Strangely, it also has a choke underneath the DSP board that is so big, that I thought it was another power transformer.

Have chance to purchase a 581 ,not se ,but concerned with reliability. Did you ever fully fix this player ?

Not as yet. I've just received some laser from Hong Kong and will start on it when I get a bit of time. Wadias in general are reliable, but SACD players as such have reading problems. Usually, new and properly adjusted lasers make them go.

Thanks a lot for the break down. The plastic fantastic transport doesn't combine great with the Wadia legacy :(

But to be fair, they didn't have much choice. They did try Stream Unlimited mech first and they kept dying so they turned to Sanyo who still makes mechanisms. Given the new SACD format was happening, they went that way. But DVD mechs are just not as good as the old CD mechs. On the other hand, OPPO somehow found the way to make them quite reliable...

I must say that I am not golden eared and cannot hear the absolute phase difference. Further to this, on Rotel RCD-991 there is this Dither control - a function of Pacific Microsonics PMD-100 HDCD filter. Some people swear by the setting 4, whereas I, and anyone else who tried to listen for difference in my presence cannot hear any. This does not mean I am deaf. I still could hear (last year) 19,300 Hz and when I did a test on www.enjoyaudio.org/index.php?lng=en and sent my results to about 20 of my audiophile friends, asking for theirs in return, I received 0 replies.

Thanks for the video can't believe it doesn't have a digital output maybe the unit sounds better without it ! 😆 But still nice to have . You ever tried a denafrips R2R dac ? I got the newef Ares 2 and its very impressive !

Wadia players were very expensive (like 14,000 Euro with these inputs and outputs) and it must've been their way of reducing the price by few grand. But the board itself wouldn't cost more than $50. On Denafrips. I know the sound because a friend of mine who lives on other side of Lake Joondalup has one. It is indeed impressive. And expensive too.
