Here is my Experimental Airplane project that I've been working on since March, 2009. It is a Piper Cub replica that will be powered by a 150hp Lycoming. I eventually would like to put it on floats too. You can see pictures of the progress at picasaweb.google.com/joshua.vilches

I know this is a old video, but I appreciate the slow, methodical walk-around and photos that show great detail. The plans have some areas that are hard to visualize. Your video will help many others 'see' the way.

Did you buy the fuselage kit with raw materials? If so , did the material come cut and coped ?

Hi Frank, plans building the Sport Trainer has been very challenging. The original J3 was never designed to be a homebuilt. There are many different size tubing and wall thicknesses, there's a lot of components utilizing "U" channeling. Both 4130 and mild steel is used. In my opinion, it is a complex plane to build unlike other true homebuilts like a Tailwind, etc which are much more simpler to construct.

Is the "U" channeling you refer to something that you can purchase or do you have to bend flat stock into shape for use? What would you say was the hardest part so far?

Frank K I believe Wag Aero stocks the "U" channeling. I ended up cutting and bending my own since I had the material and tooling. The hardest part of the project so far, I'd have to say were the gear legs and lower right hand door. I had to cover the door pin springs with a wet rag while they were being welded in place in order to not loose the spring tension. I plan on making my own engine mount too since my fuselage has slight dimensional differences of a 1/16" here and there.

Are the kits using wood for the fuselage better because of the ability to flex or are they equal or is one better than the other.

Good Morning I am looking to make a such , you have the plant or detailed design with the measures and the material used to build the fuselage and wings. The wings can be made of aircraft aluminum ? And the ratio of the total material to be used in the construction ? Grateful.

Good morning. I am building this plane from drawings produced by Wag Aero. I have modified the cabin area width and lengthened the landing gear. The drawings are for wood wings but you can make them from aluminum. All aluminum wings will cost much more.
