Fantastic weather and superb views on this recent walk over Dow Crag, Brim Fell and Coniston Old Man. Music from www,bensound.com Thanks for watching Cheers Alistair
That was a lovely day! It's a cracking hill with great views. That walk was one of the quieter ways up. Thanks for watching, and your kind comments. Cheers Alistair 👍
@@WainwrightWalksWiaLocalLad yeah you found a great starting point, we always start down in Conniston (not keen on the drive up to the car park), but then we usually scramble over the bell and ascend at the far side of Levers Water onto Levers Hawse along the top back to Old Mans summit and then take the popular path back down to Conniston. We will definitely try your route out!
@@GENerationXplorers that's an excellent route as well. The road up to the common is busier than it used to be... although when Bursting Stone was working, you would often meet a huge Deutz truck with slate clogs on the back. Back in the 40's the quarry's used ex army 4wheel drive trucks with 2 reduction gearboxes cobbled together to give them the engine breaking required with a heavy load on that hill! Torver is a good starting point...if you can get parked! Cheers Alistair
Wow, now you’ve got me wanting to see the Quarry getting heavy loads up and down that incredibly steep hill. Everywhere is so popular now, i need to get as much done in the depth of winter as possible as parking in the summer is impossible! Thanks for the tip re. Torver! 👍
@@GENerationXplorersThey don't use the quarries on the old man anymore I'm afraid. They occasionally use the small one accessed from Coppermines Valley I think. Other than that it's just Burlington, Elterwater and Honister for slate these days. Kirkstone may reopen? Cheers Alistair
I’m doing this walk in the night to try get up to the old man for sunrise 🌅 I’ve two head torches and a hand held GPS and real map 👍. Plan to do this same walk you’ve done here then carry on and bag the other 4 fells. Any advice? Love the video by the way I’ve subscribed 👍
The paths are clear enough, I've camped on the summit of Coniston Old Man in the past. I'm guessing you're going to do Dow Crag, Coniston Old Man, Brim Fell, Swirl How, Grey Friar and Wetherlam? Dow Crag summit is a scramble, and Prison Band (between Swirl How and Wetherlam)is tricky if you're not used to that type of thing!? Doing it at night... you'll miss out on the views! Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing...and good luck with your walk... let me know how you get on! ATB Alistair 👍
@@WainwrightWalksWiaLocalLad I’m looking forward to it. I know I’ll miss the views from Dow Crag n Brim fell but after I watch the sun rise I’ll have all day to potter about at my own pace bagging Wainwright’s making videos and taking photos. I’ll be doing it again the opposite way around as a wild camp at some point so hopefully get the views I miss then. Thanks again for the video I’ll be going through your back catalog 👍😂
