it's impossible to ever discount personal experience totally, but the amount of misinformation that people report simply because they beleive their personal experience is fact is insane
@MeppyMan
@MeppyMan 4 месяца назад
Personal experience should never be confused with data and hard facts though. When your personal experience seems to go against the scientific understanding that should be a red flag to yourself. You still may end up being right, but they would be exceptionally rare. (Eg the bacteria causes ulcers story). Science is self correcting. If you can prove the current thinking is wrong and that can be replicated by others, then then new knowledge is gained by all.

This holds especially true considering that the person is a nurse, who, as a medical practitioner, really should know better than to let their personal biases get the better of them. People listen to nurses, so a nurse claiming that the vaccine's a scam leads to a lot of unvaccinated people!

Hate to break it to you but "personal experience" when talking about a large subject matter like vaccinated folks vs not....is ALWAYS discountable as it's such a small sample pool it doesn't represent the true reality of things. Anecdotal evidence is not meaningful evidence.

@@kevinsheldrick917 you forgot that NSW has a really high vaccination rate. More than 95% have had 2 jabs or more. So now you need to re-look at those numbers of yours. In an area where more than 95% are vaccinated....first off, it's possible that there are no unvaccinated left. Or, people are more likely to not admit when not vaccinated at all.... so let's assume some of those unknown are unvaccinated, so, how many do you think of the 20% of the sick being unknown are unvaccinated. Either way...in an area where they know for a fact that more than 95% are vaccinated....if being un-vaxxed protected them then less than 5% would be the unknown/unvaxxed instead of 20% of the sick not being listed as vaxxed. Meaning way more unvaxxed are getting sick because the % matter

Nobel Laureates? They think they're Native Religious Extremists who are refusing to speak to anyone other than Other Religious Extremists. Do you remember 2001? Do you know WHY that happened? This isn't some "niche" country which only 1% of the world knows about. Everyone has heard of America. Can you stop acting like there was no revolutionary war? It's really irritating to see this nonsense from EVERYONE. For one thing, in the Semitic world today, the Americans are Definitely the ones responsible for forcing the Hebrews and Palestinians subgroups into both being religious extremists (not simply governed by religious extremists, but being POPULATIONS OF religious extremists). Americans don't understand CIS countries either (the CIS countries are supposed to be absorbed by China because the USSR gave them up and withdrew into the Russian Federation: and this is according to the US' perspective, NOT China's, because China is afraid to let in all these extremists and it will be too awkward if they annex them but don't allow them to leave their region and visit East China). But the vaccine thing is really where they cross the line. How am I supposed to explain THAT to young people? Are they forcing me to say that although we have few records of their extremism from before 800 CE, that there is indeed a history of extremism, and that the "capitol of the extremists" is most certainly in the Americas? The Nobel thing is a scam run by their terr0rism, anyway.

When your parents say they are skeptical about being scammed, you say "OK, I'll show you. Give me $5 and I can show you that you can easily be scammed." When they give you the $5, take it and put it in your pocket and say "Done." You can even pretend that they didn't give you the money. Something else that's important to remember here is that Omicron still seems to be less severe in that it seems to cause fewer severe cases, so it's very easy to look around now and say that most people seem to recover well regardless while ignoring a) immunity either from vaccination, prior infection or both, and b) the fact that the vaccines were most heavily pushed when Alpha and Delta were killing a much higher percentage of people than the current fatality rates with Omicron. Assessing vaccine efficacy and necessity in isolation today gives a very poor picture of the circumstances that drove the push for vaccination earlier on

If you're talking about Japan Airlines and Alaska Air, it's even better than that - they may have been dodgy, but in both cases the large airline had 0 casualties. In fact, go skim the last few years on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_accidents_and_incidents_involving_commercial_aircraft - you'll find that major jet airliners have remarkably few casualties from accidents. If I'm counting right, you have to go back to 2020 to find major jet airliner casualties. There have been incidents, sure, but the last major US airline casualty was in 2018 (which was one person). Now, small craft and prop aircraft have a little bit more of a spotty record, but as you point out, in comparison to the number of flights taken of that kind of aircraft, you're still doing quite well.

People cough into their hands when sick with COVID and the flu, and then proceed to take items off shelves, and place them back. Cough directly on food and drinks. They smoke here directly outside doors very commonly. And I carry a mask 24/7 because I have icp headaches, my migraines were an average of 21 monthly, I have pots, I have eds, an autoimmune disease, and I've been told I'll be lucky to survive a pregnancy, I'll have arthritis by my 30s, and I'll likely die in my 40s and 50s. I've had some doctors say shots are a bad idea, some doctors say they are a good idea due to my health. I'm at a high risk of stroke due to the combination of health issues I have, and I'm 26. But the people here make me feel angry. Most of them think covid was a hoax, the vaccine killed more, the vaccine causes permanent damage (even though as of now, COVID causes permanent damage to many patients) and I've been mocked, had people blow smoke at me during an asthma attack, and more. So I do think part of it is the area you live in, some people scream sheep while being ignorant and harmful to others because they just feel like it, and it's very unfortunate that biases cause people to put others at risk, or to label things as unimportant due to their own bias or emotional responses. These people, do harm, and I don't think they even have the capacity to care since none of them care enough to listen in the first place.

I am convinced I would have died without the vaccine. Incidentally, I was sick and bedbound for a week after each Covid shot, which has made me reluctant to get boosters. A further complication for this nurse's conclusion: When there are vastly more vaccinated than unvaccinated people, it becomes rarer for unvaccinated people to get sick. That's literally the whole idea of "herd immunity." If the COVID vaccine were more like, say, the polio vaccine, then getting a critical mass of vaccinated people should mean that the number of infections in unvaccinated people would drop to nearly zero. Unfortunately, COVID vaccines do not confer total immunity, their primary benefit is reducing symptom severity and infection rate.

One other point to make is that the vaccine simply was NOT intended to prevent infection, but rather the studies showed that it increased survival! As someone who is vaccinated, when my (vaccinated) son brought home and shared COVID with us a few weeks back, we all did well, and basically had only cold symptoms. Much better than when we were trach and PEGing people in the ICU every day.

@@Doc_Schmidt paul offit, canada, and science disagree with you. the fact is this was a three dose series vaccine and you must be "up-to-date" for the vaccine to remain over 50% effective. it's almost as if... ...you don't know what youre talking about...

@@geoman9324 "100% safe and effective then 70 then 50 and so on" Hard to put a percentage on something that is 200x safer than aspirin. By your fuzzy math aspirin is less than 1% safe.

There are actual studies showing she is wrong. Also as an ORSA it kind of pisses me off when people who know nothing about math like to pretend they have done math when in fact they are just stating opinions

This dude just said “I don’t have any medical or scientific evidence, so I’m just going to insult your intelligence and assume you are incapable of coming up with a scientific hypothesis.” That’s literally all this dude said. “I went to medical school, you probably didn’t, so you can’t gather your own data and come to a conclusion.”
