Mike Matei discusses Walt Disney Comics and Stories by Carl Barks. This is an older video from our website. This is mostly about the WDC&S ten pagers. This video is from 2012.
These were so popular in the Nordic that the run of our equivalent magasine never ended. New Donald Duck stories are still being produced by nordic artists for a new issue every week.
One of my all time favorite videos ever put under the "Cinemassacre" name. This video inspired me to go down the Carl Barks rabbit hole and I'm eternally thankful for it. Thank you for reuploading this.
Ooh, my absolute favourite Donald the duck artist is Don Rosa, but he was a huge fan of Barks, and it shows in his work as many of his stories are sequels to ones made by Barks.
So glad this is up here! For those who liked this, check out Mike's video about the new Ducktales series here too as it talks more about the comics too. I'd love Mike to do a small passion series on Disney comics and Duckverse in general. I started a small Barks collection because of it!
Fantastic video. I'd love to see more videos in the future talking about the Ducks. I'd particularly love to see a focus on what are my favorite types of Duck stories, the ones with Scrooge, Donald and the nephews hunting down some fabulous treasure in an exotic locale.
Donald Duck is so relatable! Like when you feel bad for someone who has a lower financial status, but his kindness backfires because everyone took advantage of him. There must be other characters you relate with in the book, too.
Love Carl Barks stories!! I also like how Al Taliaferro captures Donald's attitude. There are so many stories of Donald Duck out there. I love the variety. Great Video!!
Heres the thing, these stories are obscure. Sure, some of them have been adapted, but everybody can really benefit with you making a series sharing a bunch of these stories. I've even thought this back then in 2012
I remember having and loving a few reprint issues of this that I picked up at Thrifty's when I was a kid. They were so GOOD! I can't tell you how many times I read them over and over again. Great episode, Mike!
Great video Mike. I know the individual comics arnt worth much but I wonder how much an entire collection is worth. It probably won't become valuable until we're all dead or almost dead.
Hey mike could you reupload that video where you and James come up with different versus matchups you’d wanna see, that whole scenario you came up with for King Kong to fight Norman Bates was hilarious 😂
Alright Mike, question for you. When I was a kid I had an issue, maybe it was a collection, where Donald get stuck in a snowstorm and is blind. What is that issue and is it easily available.
These reuploads feel oddly nostalgic despite not really being that long ago... was this the shit you were doing while James was filming the AVGN movie?
Thanks big time Mike! This made me start to collect Carl Barks "Goldbook" that they use to sell here in Sweden. They are fun to collect(look good), verry fun to read, and people can se them in my bookchelf and remember them as something nice and dear from their childhood.
Yeah, this video is a reupload. This was from when Mike Matei was making a lot of videos to hold people over while James was working on other projects, like the Plan 9 remake. If I remember correctly, it got a lot of complaints from the people that didn't like his videos, especially because it didn't have anything to do with video games, so Mike quickly got rid of it and didn't reupload it until just now.
I don't really want to bring politics into this comment section, but the 2008 banking crisis could've been avoided by not caving to the alt left, which is something the world is failing even more horribly at right now as we speak.
