Wanna See My Mussels? [Tinned Fish Review] 

Been eating sardines, oysters, muscles etc. since I was around three years old. I'm 59 now. My best tip, not only for muscles and oysters, but for all canned fish and shellfish. Is to always drain your canned fish well regardless of what it's packed in. The grade of the packing medium, whether it be hot sauce, tomato sauce, mustard sauce, or olive oil , is never going to be top grade stuff. Of course the more you pay, the better you get. Is a general rule. But it's, in my experience, never top grade stuff. I always change it out for a better quality medium. Especially with olive oil. Splurge a little on your olive oil and buy a top shelf grade. It's going to have much more fruity flavors that, while subtle, enhance your medium priced sardines to a much higher level. It's night and day. Like going from chicken of the Sea sardines to Ramon Pena, or one of the other top brands. ( BTW, never buy chicken of the sea sardines 🤢 . ) You always want hand packed sardines if possible. If you open a can and all the sardines are stuck together in a homogeneous brick. You can pretty much bet they are a lower quality sardine and were mechanically packed. If I have to tear them up just to get them out of the tin. I usually toss them in the trash. Not worth the effort of chewing them. But give that a try and replace the medium whatever it is. Chances are. It's an upgrade and you will enjoy your sardines, oysters, muscles etc. so much more.

I will be trying some of these soon. Will probably pair them with hot sauce on ritz. Maybe some melted butter or warm tomato sauce. Heck then might be good with spaghetti in tomato sauce. Anyway. Glad I found this channel. Keep up the great work. Really top notch niche you have going.

I, myself believe we have something in common. We are both interested in eating tinned fish, but aren’t totally into the fishy taste. I have a list of over 50 variations that I have tried and my favorite are king Oscar zesty tomato. I love the thick, paste style tomato sauce. It’s my favorite so far. Like your channel. Keep up the good work

I generally eat all my canned fish with a dab of sriracha and a ritz cracker, for me its the best.

Was the intermission to gather your strength?

Wow those were pretty large! That’s great!!! Both mussels and oysters, and clams, etc, are bivalve mollusks, they have different shells… the mussels shells are elongated and asymmetrical… oysters more rounded… I love all of them!!! It seems in the tins, that they smoke the oysters a bit heavier, which makes a big difference, I like lighter smoked usually… unless find really good… They are different in their activity/behavior as well… my conscience is better eating oysters as they are so passive, almost like plants, whereas mussels and clams can react to outside stimuli more… no brain but more advanced nerve systems… like trying to close if someone is trying to open them, more actively get food, etc… whereas oysters just filter feed on what plankton goes through them as they sit there… If you don’t like smoked so much, try the little boiled cans of oysters! :0) But I also enjoy the more chewiness of clams!!! No,not the baby clams in these tins, but like whole, or chopped, or various other types of clams! Yummm!!! Lol I think I like the pan fried oysters best!!! And yes, you can bread and fry the boiled ones even for a great taste!!! :0)

You did yourself a big disservice by not trying the mussels on their own first. How do you know the additions “improved” the fish if you don’t try them on heir own first? They really don’t need to be “improved” in any way, Maybe a drop of sriracha, but it’s not required. TJs mussels are wonderful. :)
