@@coreythepeanut I may be wrong, but DE wanted multiplayer space-ninja game from the start, so it would be multiplayer from the start or implemented later/turned into another game
I would agree. The concept does exude a mix of military surrealism and hard sci-fi. I can already imagine it being played as an emergent game with an arsenal of tools and suit abilities to exploit various game mechanics (e.g. hacking that tripedal robot or ghosting an enemy spacecraft). It would be very different from Warframe (though I do look forward to see the New War expansion which presents a major crisis affecting all rival factions)
Its really cool looking at this old footage and seeing how much of it actually made it into Warframe. That old Burston model, or the Latos there. To be honest I kind of like the look of these Grineer over what we have in Warframe right now. But yeah its amazing to see how far Warframe has come.
Some of what we're getting now still calls back to it too- The Zariman 10-0 is *absolutely* a reimagining of the big ship we see around 2:30, and if you squint there's definitely some of the Orokin aesthetic and Uranus/Grineer sealabs in that very first clip.
dark sector was its stand alone game released in 2008 and while warframe was heavily based off of the original concept, dark sector isn't what is now considered to be warframe but it's predecessor that inspired warframe
@@zacharysammut1922 Actually this footage should have been dark sector but most publishers said sci-fi setting will make game not profitable or something
@@zacharysammut1922 dark sektor was supposed to be warframe but no publishers wanted to make a sci-fi game so they changed the design to make it marketable
2:10 Is that the Zariman? It is not an exact copy, but there are a lot of similar shapes and design points, if slightly rearranged The concept of eternalism was very fitting for the Zariman to arrive in warframe, being "Endless possibilities"
definitely a grineer crafted zariman class starship I hope we can see the grineer jackal in the future, have it act like bursas do currently, could have it be only on the ship/asteroid tileset like the prosecutor is only on the shipyard tileset. we even saw a holographic proto-parazon with the same flip as we do on the reworked fossa fight.
@@Leviathis_Krade I thought the Corpus sold/rented out an earlier model of the Jackal. I find it weird that the supposedly corporate Corpus don't sell their gear to other factions.
I remember seeing this when ps3 was announced and man i thought the graphics were so juicy and thought no way a game can look this good now we have warframe (even the jackal is still here)
Very nice to realize how much of this was pretty much rescued for Warframe. Design concepts, even part of the tile sets and ideas, just more polished nowadays.
It's actually insane to think of how long some things have been used. Like the logo for darkSector has the lotus sigil right there. Since 2005, it's almost 20 years old and the excalibur design was also here so long ago.
It's amazing to see just how much of this original concept made it into Warframe. Although I love Dark Sector and Warframe, I wonder what this version would've been like.
Absolutely! The vision became reality and so much more!! Now where I see this footage, I want to be able to open my Warframe suit and see the head of my operator though. That's some cool shit!
I just recently logged back on there's just a full second open world game in there? Like what???? Live service games are usually lazy but Jesus Christ these guys are going crazy
This concept footage proves that I was right whenever I told people that the story and lore of Warframe was changed by the devs with the Second Dream quest. When Warframe first launched the Tenno _were_ originally just people wearing armor, but then DE decided at some point to change things around for one reason or another and come up with the whole story of the Operators. But 100%, Second Dream and Operators was not something the devs originally had in mind whatsoever when the game first released. It was all made up over the course of the game's lifespan to compensate for the fact that the game lacked any real story quests.
Yeah, I've thought so too. You can see from some of the dialogue that you were intended to be just some space ninja merc in a suit hired to kill people. After the second dream, the tenno seem to be filled with a greater purpose and the whole feeling of "space merc" is pretty much scrapped. You still do stuff for the reward obviously, but you're portrayed more as a hero.
They couldn't figure out how to make the original story, which involved a ship traveling through the void and coming back full of cosmic horrors and psychic kids, work with a character that wears basically a fancy power suit. Changing suits would have been essentially the same as switching characters, which would break the lore.. so they just made you play as both the suit and the psychic kid at the same time. It's space magic, you can't explain it. Genius.
I think it has to do with Warframe China around the time they launched/announced excalibur umbra prime. They revealed these human operators against DE’s wishes, and the story leaks got weird as they were doing their own thing, so DE had to revise everything they worked on and find a way to get Umbra to the Global build bc players were confused, jealous, and angry
When i started i couldnt tell of we were robots, meat robots, or people wearing suits OR people controlling meat robots (aka what they finally settled on) glad those werent just random feelings
I obsessed over this game once footage and pictures were released. I loved the dark sector we got but I am glad to see so much of this was kept and made into the grand vision it was intended to be…but better.
I remember when it was previewed in one of those gaming magazines as a launch title for the Xbox 360. It looked really good back then. EDITED to add "360" next to "Xbox".
@@rlphyabs5239 i would disagree. The only reason people think its spooky is because some dude whispers the same line over and over. More of an info dump quest than an atmospheric one imo
@@VetriVade Yeah its not like overly the top spooky, but when you're clueless of what's happening, it kinda gives some goosbumps especially when you're alone, tho i agree that DS has more of that spooky ambiace
@@mneech609 yes, very much so! Was hyped for warframe ever since I saw this trailer as a kid back in 2005 and it finally feels like we got a similar atmosphere after all this time
I just don’t get it though. Publishers kept denying this game and kept telling digital extremes that it would fail. Only because of other space games like dead space and Metroid prime. They were afraid of too much competition and not receiving enough profit in return. And the publisher that they finally did get told them that they would only make a deal if they did not create a sci-fi action game. So, mutated zombies with metallic skin is not Sci-Fi? Anyhow, obviously the reskinning of this project that they did give the name dark sector to failed. This game called war frame that evolved from the original project is succeeding with millions and millions of users. And funny, seeing how dead space only got worse with each sequel that followed, and it’s not even able to hold a torch today next to this game.
@@MetallicaKing48 yeah and hopefully everything would carry over that we unlocked and yadda yadda just got into this game last week and im loving every minute of it makes me regret ever buying other games besides hitman and Batman but I wish I used the rest of my money to support DE will be next paycheck lol
So the grineer had corpus ships and proxies, but proxies were more rounded and grineer didn't have genetic problems because they had all limbs. Crazy space russians
I wish this version of warframe existed as well, release version of warframe was like this for a time but over the years it started to focus less on stealth and atmosphere and more on hoard shooting and story
It's interesting seeing a lot of concepts and designs that would later make up Warframe, like the jackal fight looks like it was in a corpus tile, or the early liset and the ship looking like a corpus ship. Interesting because even post launch Warframe took a while to give the grineer their own tileset
Most people: Wow its amazing to see how everything carried over and where bits changed Me: Damn og Excalibur double cheeked up on a Thursday afternoon, hella ass.
So the MC in this is Keith just like in that 1999 teaser we got to play! Even the face looks pretty similar! I can only assume that the chick flying the liset is Aoi who we hear over the comm in the teaser? Also loved the entrance/exit sequence we see from warframe, the proto-Zariman, proto-Jackal and proto-grineer!
Therapist: Don't worry, 2005 Trinity isn't real, she can't hurt you. 2005 Trinity: 0:29 Dang, that makes her the second oldest frame concept. That's sick.
man they used my fav music for trailer. when i heard it first time in warframe i had some nostalgy within me, i loved this music. it just gives this ancient nostalgic feeling. maybe i've actually heard this music years ago though... edit: its actually video edited by neogamer. the original was probably some oonga boonga music
Something cool i noticed is that this early concep would have given us a mox of different warframes powers like: 4:30 mags pull 5:02 volts sheild Sort of like how they implemented the helminth abilities now
2:29 ok I expected everything (weapons, ennemies, warframes, even tilesets) that made it into warframe... EXCEPT THE FREAKING ZARIMAN, you're telling me that they had this concept for the ship like, 20 years ago, and we saw it for the first time in the Duviri trailer in 2019 ? Mind blowing
Играла в багфрейм с 8ого патча, это 2013цатый год начало обт, и мне довольно забавно видеть так много узнаваемых деталей которые перекачивали в сам варфрейм всё таки.
I wanna play this more than the warframe we have today. With retro art style but with engines animations & talent of today. If I die I wish to become a god to have my own copy of this universe where I can orchestrate the copy people to make me this version of warframe.
The fact that the Grineer existed before WarFrame did is amazing. And IIRC, they're linking up this game to WarFrame now lore wise. Thx to WarFrame 1999, well that's just a fan assumption anyway.
For those that still don't get it: Warframe Timeline: 1. Warframe 1999 (humanity learns about the void, and become space faring) 2. Dark sector (some Humans become assassins for hire in a new economy of different human governments, as time goes these people became entirely different races, each effected differently by the void. Some needing mechanics to live. The grineer were actually not grineer, they were a militant group that used biotechnology to enhance themselves. They were against the void. In the future, they used orokin blood to strengthen themselves, called Kuva. This was another attempt to salvage their dying civilization) 3. Duviri paradox (introduction to the Orokin, specific human, Drifter, kills a cruel king, earning the people's respect, and learning the ways of battle) 3.5. The Calamity (non specified time of creation of the new generation of tenno known as dreamers. Void accident, children touched by the void, and lost until found by Orokin search parties) 4. The Great War (New Warframes are enlisted as noble soldiers to the orokin empire) 5. The death of the orokin (Warframes turn on the orokin because unjust killing and war) 6. The disappearance of the MC of Warframe (you) possibly put to rest after the war was over. 7. Warframe (you re-awaken to a new war with no memory of the past, later found to be Lotus masking your sins to help you cope with what you were and did [commit genocide to the orokin] ) That's the storyline so far. One reason we turned on the orokin was that they created the infested. They also planned on killing us when they were done using us.
I remembered seeing a trailer (part of which starts at about 3:10) for Dark Sector around '05 which was definitely towards the end of the original Xbox era. So when it finally came out on the 360 as an RE4 type shooter with a boomerang I knew it had changed significantly. Also never beat it but I think the whole setting was in a post USSR island. The end product was completely different.
