Making Leandros a Space Marine was a waste of gene-seed.

Yeah the whole $60 thing is because they pulled a really jackass move 2 years ago and rereleased the game as the anniversary edition for $60. Before then, it used to go for $30, and would regularly go on sale for $7.50. As things are, it will still go on sale for $15, so there is that at least.

I just replayed Warhammer 40k Space Marine about a month ago for the first time in years and it was one of the best experiences I've had in awhile. Such a good game.

Back when I had a ps3, I remember playing Space Marines with my younger brother. At the time I wasn’t too familiar with Warhammer 40k but it’s because of this game I became a Warhammer fan. Such a fun underrated gem, I can’t wait for space marines 2.

Execution in space marine came directly from warhammer dawn of war ,which was a STR from the same dev. In some point, some unit (especially champion) kill other unit in a very brutal way. For the fun fact, some ID member were fan of this game (and 40k universe in general as you could tell with some level like the citadel at the end of hell on earth or nekravol) and Dawn of war finish move were a major inspiration behind the glory kill system.

Dang it, I wanted the physical CE for SM2 with the statue but it was just too expensive. Also RIP total biscuit. He LOVED this game. 40k is way more mainstream than it used to be. I grew up with 40k from the very first codex Rogue Trader that my dad had back in the late 80’s/early 90’s. I miss him he passed last year.

the anniversary edition and all the dlc it comes with was at least a free upgrade for anyone who bought the base game on steam. and the base game has gone on sale quite low before

40 to 60 bucks for a Warhammer game? Must be the usual from GeeDubs then. Overpriced stuff is practically their forte, be it miniatures, books, or videogames. It's pretty much its own meme in the Warhammer fandom: *"Warhammer is for everyone unless you are poor."*

Got this for free when Steam had it on promotion. It's definitely very fun. I'm pretty sure the Grimlock parts of Fall of Cybertron were based off this game, it has a lot of the same elements like Grimlock being a walking tank that shakes the ground with each step, the melee system, it could pass as a mod of Space Marine.

If you can get some friends together highly recommend vermintide 2 and maybe darktide if you want to stay in the 40K world

Amazing, lol, I beat the game last night, and I wake up to you reviewing it! Love the timing! I think your video is spot on, game feels like a solid proof of concept, but one that could have easily gone a step or two further ahead to truly reach greatness, what I found hilariously fun and made me love this game however, is how in terms of tone, it's a polar opposite to gears of war, lol. Hey Jarek, like your FPS coverage/reviews ... maybe you can expand your review's scope and include other shooter genres? like more third person shooters as well? like Gears, Spec Ops, (you used to cover these) or Remnants, Returnal-PC, Days Gone-PC, Quantum theory, Army of Two, Inversion etc ? Horror/survival titles on PC like Resident Evils, Last of Us, Dead Space, Callisto Protocol. As well as other first-person games like: Hunt Showdown (its really good), SCP Pandemic, Warhammer 40K Darktide, or review PC FPS modes like: RDR2-FPS mode on PC or GTA V-FPS mode in PC? RE4 PC mod?

Nice video man! I remember playing Space Marine on the Xbox back in high school. I got the Anniversary version on Steam years later, and dude, I'd seriously wait for a sale, I've picked this game up for $10 and then I was comfortable enough with the $20 asking price for Boltgun cause that's a great game as well. I am also stoked for Space Marine 2. I als tried to get into Darktide, but still to this day it has issues...

If I remember correctly, the multiplayer had a capture the flag type of mode which was quite cool.

I remember buying this game and thought hey, Space Marines. Boy I had a blast. My go to weapons were Plasma pistol, Storm Bolter, Melta Shotgun and the sniper rifle. My favorite melee will be the Power Axe.

This game was my entry point into the 40k universe, fun to see someone else do the same

I played the multiplayer and remembered really enjoying it, although I kept going around with the upgraded bolter which the game literally tells you in the loading tips that it has the potential to be the best gun in the game if upgraded and the Melta gun for close range situations and It had great customisation with the armour and colours, even being able to change the individual shoulder pieces. Starting out is a massive pain though, as you're limited with damage, relying on grenades to get the necessary damage especially up against the God damn Melta which has the potential to end you in a single shot. The heavy bolter was very fun, despite having a weird option of locking yourself down (although it works similarly in the RTS games Dawn of War) and be a turret with extra fire rate, it was effective although created camping situations. I only played Team Deathmatch, I can't really recall any of the other game modes. This is just the thoughts from what I remember from the multiplayer, most of it is feelings and I don't have much Warhammer 40k knowledge outside of casually playing DoW as a kid.

You're a little late (but very welcomed). Thanks to retro-reviewers we're getting sequel after 10 years. And story wise it was supposed to be a trilogy. 2nd game was supposed to be about redemption and in 3rd you were supposed to lead your own chapter (if I remember it righ?). I don't think they are going along with this plan anymore, but we'll see.

Aw buddy, you missed out on the autocannon, there's only 2 times it spawns. Near where sidonus dies to the chaos lord and on the big bridge. It's insane, I highly recommend playing those 2 missions purely to try it and watch how you mince chaos champions even on the highest difficulty. It's ridiculously satisfying.

So, while I can see space marine's multiplayer appeal after playing it for a while, there's a few detractors that ends up being a common thing for it. Lobbies will usually be focused around a single gamemode such as TDM (it's been a while since I played so I don't quite remember the names) meaning in order to play any other gamemode including the dreadnought gamemode in space marine, you have to organize that with a full party of friends which leads into the other detractor I've noted and I believe this also affects Exterminatus (the coop gamemode). Lobbies are entirely P2P even with the anniversary edition meaning if someone has a bad connection and they're the host, you'll either outcome A, experience terrible lag or outcome B, be sitting through host migration menus for in the best of times a minute long or for the worst of times five+ minutes long all the while watching the match timer still countdown as the migration takes place.

I bought this game back in 2021, and it's gloriously awesome!

I tried this game when it came out and didn't give it enough of a chance. I just thought it was a sub-par Gears of War clone. Might need to revisit it. Great video!

The big single shot sniper is called the Las Cannon, basically a man portable anti armor heavy weapon. It's dang punchy on head shots.

I remember playing the demo for this on Xbox and years later I bought it on PC. Awesome game. Can't wait to see what the sequel is gonna be like.

3:45 this is a huge problem with Sega published games, they do not drop in price unless on sale, I'm a Total War fan and Total War Rome 2 got a price increase from 55€ to 60€ so there's a high chance it was cheaper originally but then had a price increase.

inexperienced might not be a good way to describe space marine, by the point when they are full fledged battle brother, they have seen and participated in tons of conflicts and if i remember, Leandros is a sargent, above mentioned battle brother

I've learned about this game from Cliffy B's blog post about (Lt?) Mira as really well written female character. It was good game, also liked Hired Gun despite the jank. It's from the EYE Divine Cybermancy devs after all...

I still play this game mostly cuz of the Augmented Mod, that gives extra armor customzations, new weapons and classes. It's still being updated as we speak.

You should try out Space Hulk: Deathwing. I found it incredibly fun.

The reason that they didn't go "all in" on the Chaos Lord's design is because he hasn't been elevated by the Chaos gods to a daemon prince, which is what he was trying to do on Graia. That is typically the point in which most semblance of humanity is abandoned for a more pure daemonic form in 40k lore. You can look up some good examples of that online if you wish. He was also trying to be a Daemon Prince of Chaos undivided, which is notably more difficult than becoming a daemon prince of any particular chaos god cause you gotta earn the favor of all four rather than just one. (I think the only confirmed ones are Be'Lakor, the first daemon prince, Lorgar, a Daemon Primarch, and Perturabo, another Daemon Primarch)

this game had fucking incredible pvp too. It was like max payne Halo Reach. Customization that makes doom 2016 blush. Fun fuckin objective. Solid maps. Good shit

There's a very small but dedicated community that plays the PC version of this game's multiplayer. Mostly Europeans so you would have to get on their general time zone to be able to get some matches. It's fun but it's basically full of lag or experienced players using animations cancels lol.

The campaign for Space Marine was really good, but the strength of it was always in its multiplayer modes. Take everything good about the campaign and add in really in-depth (especially for the time) character customization and a really well made class and loadout system.

Actually when i got my steam deck in 22...i purchased this game on sale for $7, and i still own my ps3 copy....

I like Darktide. Still not as good as it could be, but it's a fun way of spending an hour once in a while.

No it is and has always been that expensive, it just goes on sale frequently enough at like 10 or 15 bucks iirc. But yeah even then that's kinda a lot for a 12 year old game that's like 4 hours long.

It's funny that you mention the music not taking an easy route by not being metal. But, by 40k standards, using generic orchestra *is* the easy way of avoiding other genres of music.

Do NOT try to play this on ps3. I tried it and it’s HORRIBLE. 20-25 fps if you lucky. Controls feels horrible. And it almost looks like it’s at 360p lol

Have you tried necromunda, darktide and deathwing? Deathwing coop is the real game btw the sp sucks. Those are the other, more "modern" shooters. Deathwing is by the guys that did E.Y.E. divine cybermancy btw

As a 40k fan who got into 40k partially because of Space Marine; in truth, you're better off just staying on the outside. Enjoy the games. Do not get too involved in the lore and community.

When you mentioned there is not really an explanation for why the bad guys are the bad guys, there is a LOT of lore behind it, way too much for the game and too much depth, some of it good, some of it stupid. Basically boils down to their leaders deciding to serve the gods of chaos because they have daddy issues.
