Wow, this really hit me in the feels. I think Warhammer Quest was special to all of us in the 90's, I remember spending hours playing with my friends in their parents sitting room, taking over the whole floor for the whole day. Love this.

This video is an AMAZING showcase of why your channel is so delightful. You got perhaps the most obvious mini and color combination, one that doesn't stick out from so many projects. I thought, "Awww, a gold Stormcast? That's a shame! Reroll?" But your usual excitement and charm was ready to dive in, you tried new techniques, and you obviously showed off how much fun you were having. It didn't matter how "obvious" and "basic" the offered topic was, you took the challenge, made it fun, and kept it an enjoyable watch from beginning to end. You, sir, are a RU-vid treasure. A joyful light in this hobby. I appreciate you, my friend.

It still reads gold to me! Like a tarnished gold, where the fresh battle damage exposes clean gold that would catch the light the most. Looks amazing and makes me even more excited for my move out of an apartment so I can airbrush.

Gold itself doesn't tarnish (i.e. oxidize), but it could get dirty like any other material. That chemical stability led to the belief that gold had supernatural properties back in Ye Olde Tymes.

I really like how it came out! It definitely has its own look. It's different and I like different 🤷🏻‍♀️ I also love trying new techniques because even if it doesn't come out the way you want, you still learned something from it 🙂 Also, my daughter is 7 (almost 8 😩) and loves painting with me. She has a few delays and doesn't like loud noises, so she loves your voice. We watch your videos while we paint everyday (I homeschooled her). Thank you for being so awesome!

My tip for blending improvement is work on spare sprue; each piece of sprue is a nice channel for a blend, just undercoat and try your different wet blend and glazing techniques - start with taking 20mm to transition, then get used to transitioning in less distance. Try all the colours! :D Best bit is you can store all these sprues and refer back to the ones which went particularly well. Put in the time and it'll make a big difference to your blending. 20min of this is a great warm-up exercise before painting a mini

I really like this. I would just paint the plume blue and paint the shield with more than just gold. Adding darker things is a good idea, the extra contrast would help a lot!

Ooooh, cool! You're right, he doesn’t look like metal, but he looks like amber or honey and that is kinda cool, imo! It is a very convincing look in its own right and there’s gotta be some other use for this. I’m sure you’ll get NMM down soon, but I hope you won’t forget this technique then, because it definitely has uses, I am sure of it!

You know what would help with painting metal lighting on a fig? If somehow you can upload the models to unity or something that works with 3D programs and then you’ll be able to move the figure around and get the perfect reflection on the figure. That way it takes out the guessing game for painting.

Even if you don't feel it ended like NMM, I think the points of white helped a ton with returning the shine without being overbearing. The stylized scratch pattern on the chest was also super interesting. I'll have to try it myself next shot I get.

I have just got back into the hobby (I stopped when I started university!) and your videos are awesome. I paint Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game minis but have got your podcasts and videos on in the background, as I've got two weeks off from work. I have got my own Professional Pile of Shame starting too which is exciting. Also I have designed my own in scale garrison castle which I am making out of foam board and card etc. I am a set designer in the film and tv industry, so I do that stuff anyway. Top work, keep it up. :)

You're not giving yourself enough credit with the NMM. If you stare at it of course you can tell it's not metal, but every time there was a cut, my eyes would re-focus on it and my brain would go "oh, that's metal" for a second.

Like the attempt, the yellow gradient looks very pleasing to the eye. The white seems to be where the trouble happened. Metalics have colored reflections, and gold is a darker color than assumed. So I think the next attempt could look better with a less intense light gradient.

I really appreciate hearing how someone else struggled with the technique for hours. Its truly a difficult technique to pull off. I think the difficulty is almost every major tutorial skips over the specificity necessary to duplicate things like NMM. it took me forever to figure it out

I hear ya! My first nmm turned into a splotchy textured mess, partially due to using too many layers of slightly too thick paint, and not having that paint fully dried before layering! Going to try again, this time with non metallic dragon scales!

You should try using contrast paints for Nmm. It's quick, easy and looks just as good as other techniques.

That was a nice video as always ! I would love to see you try techniques that are more often associated with more realistic or grimdark style of painting, like the use of enamel wash and solvant, things like that.
