In this video I get two good and one not so good surprises! Join me for this flight, first to Sandown on the Isle of Wight and then onto Goodwood. It looks to be an eventful one!
The Lord giveth and the Lord flyeth away. Just saying 😉. Great episode (again), and I have to say, Goodwood Info are always very thorough and accommodating which makes it an attractive destination. You can tell when there's activity on the track as you can often hear it on the RT, it all adds to the charm ...along with the Spitfires and Harvards of course. 👌
😂👍🏼 I’m beginning to think that Goodwood might be my favourite airfield to fly to… 🤔 that or Bolthead Salcombe… Goodwood has a proper posh restaurant & amazing aircraft to see (as you say) & occasionally motor racing events… what’s not to love! 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks for watching sir 🫡
The friendliness & professionalism of the ATC team makes a huge difference to the experience of the airfield. That’s why I think Goodwood is one of my favourites, because they are always approachable, accommodating & friendly! They even remember who I am, which makes it even more personal 😊👍🏼 The time flies, hey 😳 Thanks for coming back for another video 😊👍🏼
Thank you so much sir!!! 🫡 The crosswinds can be a bit fruity on the top, you don’t often see flexwings & I agree, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Peabee there! Let me know if you ever decide to visit Compton again 😊👍🏼
Our wx here in New Zealand is similar, especially this year - wind and rain. Beautiful the last few days so that's a nice change but a/c under maintenance 😆
Brilliant, Dark Lord…… So good to listen to the interaction of the excellent Goodwood radio…… A great learning curve moment….. visualising the various aircraft positions in the circuit as you approached…… Never know what we will meet when we visit an airfield…… I’m always impressed how calm and professional the controllers are. Well done… Keep ‘em coming, sir… Captain Ray 👨✈️
Thanks so much Captain Ray! 🫡👨🏼✈️ Goodwood have, in my experience, always been one of the most welcoming airfields, from a FISO perspective. They deal with such varied traffic but seem to take it all in their stride! 😊 I’m not sure if you visit there regularly, but I’d definitely recommend it! 😊 Thanks for your support, as always 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
That’s high praise coming from you sir 🙏🏻 Thank you very much. I still feel very much an amateur but equally feel like I’m learning so much from the process from both flying & media perspectives 😊👍🏼
Another great video to watch (and another amazing landing!!) 👏👏👏 I couldn’t see much in the way of trees or buildings to cause wind sheer, so may well have been a touch of wake turbulence, Geoff. (Something else you can’t see on Sky Demon) 🤣
I know!!! 😄 I’m going put in a request that they add visual indication of thermals & wake turbulence! It’s such an incredible piece of software that I’ve almost come to expect the impossible of it now! Thanks for watching again 👍🏼
It's good to hear that you're taking the opportunity to do some gliding. It will be fun and a little different from what you're used to doing in power flying (though they are still much the same). We can get wake turbulence off the trees at Lasham if there is a northerly component to the wind or times when there are strong thermals popping off, which can lead to strong, localised, gusts.
Just when you think you’ve got this ‘landing’ thing nailed, everything changes! 😄 I’m soooo impressed by glider pilots, I don’t know how they cope so well without an engine! 😳😮 Thanks for coming back for another episode 🙏🏻👍🏼
A bit of bobbly air keeps you on your toes. You should come over to Barton on a nice weekend, the circuit feels like the M25 sometimes and possibly as long with all the orbits you have to throw in to keep separation.
😮that sounds scary, but I suppose what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger! Pushing ourselves to fly in more challenging conditions helps us progress as pilots… I think that flying at Barton has got to be a fantastic opportunity to develop on so many levels. I’m really keen to venture through that LLC at some point! A while ago I planned a ‘fantasy trip’ through there. Am I right in saying that they’ve recently updated the advice for pilots using that route? 🤔
I think you’re right, I’ve never really experienced wake turbulence from an aircraft before with that kind of traffic spacing. It was just a surprise to have everything so stable & then all of a sudden get slapped by the wind… it had me wondering what happened 🤔🤷🏻♂️😄
