Watch me screw up this PS4 Slim Southbridge Replacement CXD90042GG

This PS4 slim has no usb functions which means the southbridge was faulty. I replaced it once but hit the chip and knocked it out of place. I blame the camera angle :-)
I am not an expert and my videos are unedited but maybe this will help out a few of my fellow techs.

its good to know its not just me who makes mistakes seriously its too easy for things to go wrong but most youtube videos edit all the mistakes out so its refreshing to see how things really go now and then, not just perfect videos where everything looks easy.

Tell me, did you remove the chip using only a soldering heatgun or do you have a bottom heater? Weren't you afraid that by heating the board "from below" you can blow off the smd components from the bottom of the board? What temperature should I set on the soldering heatgun?

Hi! I want to ask u this: if u change the SB because of shortcuts and after that u find more shortcuts but not in the SB, is it fixeable? Some dude said he changed this chip but he found other shortcuts besides de SB and he said that my ps4 pro wasn't fixeable... Is that right?

Hi, can this procedure could work to replace the Southbridge of an old PC motherboard? Does the chip has to be programmed or something?

Can you please help me out? I am trying to change the SB chip myself but I don't know the right temp for the hot air station and the time I have to heat it up. What are good indicators, maybe you can tell me? :)

Put the paste flux. As you heat board, you'll see flux activate letting you know you're close. Nudge at chip gently til you discover that it is springy -- at this time the solder is liquid and chip ready for lift off with tool of choice. This video is good example -- follow it and you'll be ok.

Hi, I have a PlayStation Photo 1216. All console LEDs work, but the blue LED does not turn on. The console is sound and even playable and there are no additional problems. Only the blue LED does not light up. Please help me.

Since I don't have the hardware for a re balling do you think putting some flux and heating it may help? Not to get it off but just to get it on there and get it hot

Does the ps4 has a northbridge? Some guy said that is ps4 is faulty cause the northbridge is burned but I don't find any information on google about the northbridge

hello .I am getting not power in usb ports on my ps4 pro ,everything works except all USB ports are completely dead .I am getting error message Too many usb devices are connected. Any help ? All fuses are good .Please reply P.S sorry for my English

Would this method work on the Apu as well? I have one that has the blod and I'm pretty sure it's either the south bride or the Apu

My ps4 pro has issue that can run normally for an hour and then un-fully reboot... The white light is on, fan is on, disk is working, but HDMI, USB port has no response. After manually restart it, it's back to normal, and after one hour or so, it reboots again... Is this a southbridge issue? Or a PSU issue?

Hello! I have a ps4 that delay to turn on. Need to stay on ac for 5 min so i can turn it on but the eject button is working fine. Checked psu and its fine.Also the controllers works only in safe mode with cable and not wireless. It's the cpu? What do you think from you experience?

Surface tension of solder will hold them in place. Just do not set hot air on HURRICANE setting, or you'll blow them out of place.

When i press power button on my ps4 slim it turns on for 6-7 seconds with stable blue light and then turns off.

I'm doing well thanks for asking. Staying home. Drowned in repairs. I've got a stack of 2015's all SB so Westingames it is. A few people suggested them on your FB group also but I've been procrastinating on it 😁. I did the exact same thing changing out SB. I blame the tweezers man!

@@Cronicbarbarian Westingamaes are good.. but there was a patch of 42 SB does not work and another works fine.... 42 SB is really hard to find working good ones.... Also a tip i did put 3 x 42 SB on three different ps4 slims, it gives constant blue light, leaving it over a day, they work the 3 consoles, do not ask me why

Hi there.what temperature u used to disoldering and resoldering the chip?what kind of hotgun have you used?here noone wants to repair my ps4 because they say that it needs a ir solderer so i have ordered a southbridge chip from china and i would like to do by myself but i don t have ir solderer.

The cost of 42gg is like 8 times that of 25g or 36g. I don't understand why

@How Not To yeah i have a dc. I Will try. I ve just reballed the southbridge but the ps4 is not powering anymore. No beep no fan no Blue led. I think i ve damaged the southbridge chip

@How Not To thank you, i have a stencil and balls were perfect on it, but i will try to reball it. I give heat from the top and i think i screwed it up. I screw it up also the mask on the mainboard between the pads while cleaning them with the copper wire.. the green mask is very low quality

@How Not To i checked all the caps smd without the chip around and there is no short (only one side beeps on ground..) should i check the caps on the back of the mainboard under the sb?

@How Not To without the sb soldered ps4 should beep when i press the power on? The 5v are present from the apu.can i short manually the 2 pin on the white connector in ordert to force 12v from the apu?
