Ahhhh! I love your content so much! It’s so relaxing and really does remind me of RU-vid videos from around 10 years ago (think itsmissheathernicole, wj539, rustic beauty etc.). You go against the grain so fearlessly and I find it inspirational. Keep up the fantastic work! 😘😘😘😘😘😘
I could be mistaken, but I believe Indigenous Strandz only uses the flaxseed gel on the ends of her twists to avoid tangles on the ends. I do not think she uses the gel on the entire length of her twists as I recall.
Annette R. Hogan you’re right! And this was my biggest mistake! I meant to add that as a remark at the end of my video. Thank you for commenting this!!!
Indigenous Strandz also suggests that you coat the ends with oils and Shea butter before applying flaxseed gel. That's been the game changer for my twists.
Hi Naturally High You've probably mentioned this on other videos, and it's possible that I may have missed it, but how long have you been doing your method of twisting your hair. In May I started on the journey that Indigenous does. Perhaps I can share some pictures with you through Instagram. Take care x
Yeah flax seed gel does that but to combat flakiness apply a butter either shea butter, mango or cocoa butter on the hair b4 the gel, the hold won't be as strong bcoz of the butter but it's 100% guarantee you won't see any flakes after that.
I make a thick flaxseed gel n I use it down my entire length. I make mine with marshmallow root and use lots of it as a leave-in. NEVER flakes. Damp hair + light layer of oil ( so hair won’t dry out while adding flaxseed gel to sections) + flaxseed gel + Hawaiian Silky + another thin layer of oil to seal > under heating cap for 30 mins. Moisturized hair FOR DAYS!
I love flaxseed gel 😍😍😍 but to avoid any flakes I add avocado oil (any natural oil) into the mixture... about 1/4 cup for 1/4 cup of flaxseed and 2 cups of water. And I don't let the flaxseed gel to get that thick. I use it for my daughters 4C hair and to retwist my locs. Really no flakes!! I love your hair 😍😍😍
I love this... Yes it does leave that white residue, imma share a secret with you sweetheart, just use okro. Bring it to Boil and use that gel from it, it adds shine, define curls way better than flaxseed and does not leave that white stuff on hair...
@@Prov31Beauty-Seeinglassfull it's better than flaxseed. It has a natural shine to it, more slippery, doesn't leave any kind of debris or whatever on the hair, try it!
If you want to use flaxseed gel on all the length of your hair you have too make it less thick. I use flaxseed gel for my wash and go and it's so great ! I'm watching the season 2 of the Punisher on Netflix (I know I'm late). Thank you for sharing those beautiful pictures of Switzerland. It's beautiful. I live in France but I never went to Switzerland.
Any time I use flaxseed, I use the smallest amount I can manage to get at a time. It also reactivates with water/moisture (I spray my fringe each morning with aloe vera juice to reshape) It definitely is not like ECOStyler. Like many have mentioned already, adding an oil helps remove any cast left over, but I find I don't have that issue if I use as little product as possible during styling
Awww thank you for your comment! If I make a new set of gel, I will add oil or shea butter with this in mind. I'll also freeze the batch in an ice cube tray for safe keeping and easy retrieval. Lol! I have so many mishaps on here! There's another one coming out soon so look out for it! I'm glad it's not all in vain.
I use flaxseed gel mostly for wash and gos. However, when doing twists use it on the ends of my hair. TIP: use a thinner consistency. Thanks for caring to share.
Hi I saw your hair and it is exactly like mines and I love it. I am so happy to see natural hair especially of our texture and it being embraced. I like rope twists as well but I dont like the idea of twisting my hair completely with gel. Simple water and my hair butter goes a long way. I love the clump idea and I have been trying it...great! *I dont like to comb my hair as much* God bless!
Have you tried blending the flaxseed gel? I used to get similar problems, but then I started putting it in the blender before using it, it helps to give it a more even consistency and avoids clumps that cause excess product build up. I used flaxseed gel almost exclusively for my afro and now on my locs so I've been using it for almost 5 years now.
To second that you can also blend oils into the gel to help with the moisturization and you can also make a big batch and freeze it/ thaw it when you need it so you don't have to keep making it every time you need it. I keep mine in the fridge in an applicator bottle and it lasts in the fridge for a couple weeks with vitamin E. It's also easier to control the amount you're using that way.
P.s. I'm a long time watcher, first time commenter so I'd be remiss to say that I love your hair and your journey is so encouraging. I love your energy and it always makes me happy to see your updates. I wish you good luck in all your endeavors and I can't wait to see what life has in store for you 💜.
Awww! Thank you! So are a lot of you commenting here! So much of my knowledge comes from others' channels (like Indigenous Strandz') and the comment section under my videos. I really want to upload more. Did you notice that the editing style is a bit different now? I have someone editing my videos so that I can be more consistent. He's getting really good! :)
I use flaxseed gel but only on the end of my twists. I've never used it in all of my hair because I know it does leave the residue. Saying that, I watch a lot of Indigenous Strandz and I had never noticed that she uses flaxseed in her whole head. But glad you sorted it in the end with the aloe vera juice. I also agree with a couple of comments below, that the consistency of the Flaxseed would need to be thinner in order to use it in your whole head.
Also, have you tried grease/pomade instead of gel?? That would definitely get rid of the white residue. Or if not, maybe apply an oil on top of the gel then if you must use that?
This is all I have tried so far. I'm noting down everyone's suggestions. Thing is, I'm a bit fed up with things going wrong when I try them out :/ I think using castor oil is a safe bet as that works well for me anyway. Thanks for your comment!
Naturally High I totally get ya. Gotta stick to what works best for you at the end of the day. You're awesome for responding to all of these comments! Keep up the great content, love. Cheers.
Currently watching Dark, it's a real mind bender so you definitely don't feel the pain in your arms lol. As for the gel, it looks very thick, which is probably why even with being conscientious it was still excessive. Just needs a bit more water when making the batch, also rewetting and smoothing any excess can do the trick too. Definitely would like to see an update if you choose to do this again
outherewildin' b thanks for your comment! Flaxseed gel requires so much effort but I’m planning on freezing it to reduce the effort required. And yes, il need to make it thinner or add some water to it!
I watch indigenous stranz also and have made her recipe for flaxseed gel but somehow I understood that she uses it only on her ends and that is what I do with success. Great video and nice hair keep up the great work!💜
EXO and GOT7 outdid everything ooooh! Let me know how it goes! It’s always interesting to be reunited with your own tresses after wearing extensions for a while!
If you plan on using flaxseed gel in the future I think it will help If you use it on freshly washed hair. Humid or wet hair + leave-in (optional) + oil or butter+ flaxseed gel. Smoothing the gel in your palms to a thin layer gives perfect result.
I woke up today with the white cast!😭😭😭😭 I'm not giving up by washing it all tho. Hopefully spraying it with some water and adding some oils in the mix will help?
I’m not twisting my hair today. Just watching you!! I should retwist but too tired. Normally takes me 5 to 8 hours depending on what size I’m making them.
Yep flaxseed gel does that I tried 2 times first time I thought that I had put a lot of gel so the second time I just put a tiny bit but still got those flakes
Hey Queen you are awesome. I haven't tried flaxseed gel in my hair but I will soon. I'm happy your hair turned out better and you got rid of the gel cast. Thanks for sharing this video. Also, I'm a new SUBBIE ❤
When making the gel you have to strain it several times to just get the gel and throw the rest away. I never see naptural85 having this problem and she uses it all throughout her hair. She has two great tutorials on how to make it
@@NaturallyHigh how do you strain successfully and what with? I have seen and tried strainer, cotton-mesh, tongs, all messy-unsuccessfully...going for IS's SOCKS method next..with Okro..
I use softee blue hair gel and softee Indian hemp hair conditioning grease together and it's like 2 dollars I mix them together with a little more hair grease than gel and it doesn't leave a hard cast and leaves my hair very soft and shiny and I apply one liquid oil like avocado, sweet almond, jojoba, Aragon, tea trea oil on my scalp "not a butter" because it might solidify and irritate my scalp or clump with my gel. By sitting on top of the hair making it never fully penetrate. Cause the gel and hard thick hair butter dont mix. Like I tried making coconut flaxseed hair gel it was a complete fail and hair hard pieces of coconut oil floating around
Naturally High your welcome😊♥️and lastly you want to make sure the flaxseed dry in your hair completely before you wrap your hair up to go to bed or the flaxseed will give your hair a weird bad smell. So make sure next time you give it another try used oil like coconut oil or olive oil any oil of your choice after you apply the flaxseed gel. I use flaxseed gel for my wash and go all the time!
I usually use Aloe Vera plant to twist my hair but it still looks fuzzy. Today I will try flaxseed gel. If it leaves a white residue I'm gonna try okro.
Hi thanks for your videos and information you provide. I'm trying to start using more natural hair products (without harmful chemicals) but don't know where to start. Could you do a video about the hair products you use, please?
Hmm ive recently started using flaxseed gel and i love it but i dont have the flaking problem 😅 i wonder if its because i dont use products? Because i an heavy handed with the gel and ive had no problems. Maybe try layering some oil before applying the gel🤷🏾♀️
You probably made the flaxgel too thick. Try a clearer/looser consistency. Try not to use too much for the individual twists. That should help with the white residue.
@@MsLaNatural Might try just a little to help with frizz and longer lasting twist..I am worried about build up. It is only gel I use buy soooo hard to strain..any tips?
I'm not twisting my hair until the weekend, but it usually takes me 1-2 hours to twist my hair, depending on the size. My hair is pretty short. I haven't tried flaxseed gel; I don't normally like to use gel on my twists, unless I'm adding braiding hair. Normally I use Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and Carol's Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey Pomade. I hope you can figure out a way to keep the gel from flaking! I've been watching Call the Midwife a lot.
Hi Ms. Naturally High! Your twists still look beautiful. If you're using products that contain silicones, then flax gel will definitely flake very badly. Make sure to clarify and don't use too much.
The diy flaxseed gel didn't work for me (too much protein), either, until I reduced the amount of flaxseeds to two tablespoons to two cups of water, plus I totally saturate each section with water before applying the shea butter (be sure to rub it in your hands until it's just the oil) after all of your hair is coated with shea butter then twist with the flax seed gel. Give it a shot!
Loooove your channel! Can't get FGel smh, am trying out 'Okro gel' but am thinking what if you thin out your FG next time? I had to open my mouth WIDE when In.Strand(Hello dear IS! Mwah!) - when she used SOCKS to STRAIN her FG - I thought SURELY it cant WORK!!! With rapt attention, I kept watching! And IT WORKED!!! (Oh thats a thought-will use it for my Okro if I can get it thick enough. I feel I have to add water to get its gel out! Sigh! Oh I know! I'll pray! I know am thinking aloud/online...sorry reader..) Anyway so I kept watching and thinking someone may mention it below (that it's probably too thick)...am still reading comments (Loving reading from my favourite natural hair guru's below by the way). By the way, I LOVE that quote from that famous book - SO TRUE - I feel, whether HP or LP hair or finer texture. I must really finish my e-copy from Audibles.com, but every time I get a chance to listen, my mouth is agape!
I watch tutorials like these on RU-vid in my spare time. Along with sermons and animal programs. Check out The Black experience in japan, or What Lies beneath the weave.
I did a midweek moisturizing / re-twist session last night. I used Camille Rose Naturals Curl love Moisture milk and Almond Jai twisting butter. It took me around 3 hours.
@@NaturallyHigh I'm trying the Camille Rose Naturals Curl Love Moisture milk as well. I use it to re-moisturize my twists. I love it so far! Have been using it for three weeks and keeps my hair moisturized for 3-4 days. I seal the product with castor oil. I have type 4 hair, a mix of a,b, and c. Definitely give it a try!
@@NaturallyHigh I used those two products specifically for most of 2018 but switched to Qhemet Biologics in December and have used that all year. They work really well and keep my hair moisturized for close to 5 days. I really love the Coco Nibs and Honey Oil, it smells delightful and is thick enough to last all week on my coarse, dense 4c hair.
Indigenous strandz uses lots of oil. Castor and different oils infused with herbs. When you said you didn’t add any products before you used the flaxseed gel bc you had product on from you’re in between twists, I was like uh oh!!!
@@NaturallyHighOMG I love the smell of raw shea butter but I guess that's just me lol. I think your hair texture would benefit from Shea butter or castor oil as a sealent. U can whip the Shea butter with your favorite oils & add essential oils to it for smell. Here's a good recipe: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HBc6Q47r_HU.html
I’m not sure what I need to do. Use less gel(any brand), not mix with leave-ins or... I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Each time I try to do a twist out, flat twist, braid out etc etc, I get flakes. Edit- flakes is from gel. Using just a leave-in I don’t get them. So maybe I should just not use gel.
