Being a couple saved Katniss and Peeta from what most Victors experience after winning: The Victors are pimped out to Capitol citizens, and their families are killed if they refuse. Haymitch has no one. Finnick was chasing the screaming jabberjays, so he still has someone. Johanna said, “They can’t hurt me-there’s no one left I love.” She’s so outspoken because the Capitol took everything from her shortly after she won.

Two things I'll never get tired of when it comes to Billy's reactions: 1) They kiss like [insert weird analogy that ruins the whole kiss scene but somehow makes me lol] 2) Billy not bothering to learn *anyone's* real name and renaming them not even two seconds after hearing said name 😂

I love how Jennifer Lawrence could portray her forced kisses with Peeta and Gale so accurately, that when you see her kissing Peeta on the beach you immediately know that this time is real. A great actress indeed

It’s not talked about in the films but the people of the capital literally “buy” the victors no matter the age and uh yeah- do stuff to them. Finnick mentioned it in the books and it totally over my head as a kid but he got the worst of it really cause he was considered beautiful. People of the capital DONT see it as wrong cause the people of the districts are not humans to them

Haven’t even seen it yet but my favorite line/scene from the whole hunger games series is when peeta is having his interview and is like, “and i wouldn’t have regrets if it wasn’t for…if…if it wasn’t for the baby” and everyone is like omg and all outraged and he just smirks

Rereading this as an adult I was blown away by how much this story portrayed real life, the way a war can start, the way it can pull people in without them even meaning to, the way propaganda is all over the place. It's so good.

The capitol was having fun watching kids 12-18 die inside of the arena but then they got mad when they heard that there’s a baby. Idk but this sounds familiar to me 👀

This is the best Hunger Games movie. I said what I said.

In this film, we see the effects of the PTSD she developed offscreen after The Hunger Games. Her C-PTSD is introduced in Mockingjay Part 1 from everything she went through in Catching Fire and as Mockingjay Part 1 and 2 go along, we watch the effects develop as opposed to her already having them. Mockingjay Part 1 is a lot of build up and I think it's done so well.

I love how Billy's like "THEY DESTROYED DISTRICT TWELVE?!" As if the capitol had just personally offended him 🤣🤣🤣

One note that I always found interesting in these books was that the closer you were to the Capitol the more better off you were in the games. So Districts 1 and 2 were more likely to be "career" tributes because they had more resources to train, whereas the farther out you were the less resources you had. It always seemed like a great commentary on classism to me.

I laughed so hard when you called Gloss “Aquaman” because he actually played Aquaman on TV. 😂😂😂

And also: #bingers "Crazy Rich Asians" (2018), 'cause that was such a great movie, and since we're doing some "family" movies this month, I think this one is a good one. But of course! What's better than "The Farewell" (2019) to talk about family, to be honest. And finally, my last recommendation is "Our Family Wedding" (2010), just 'cause I'm feeling nostalgic and it's a bit more of a comedy than "The Farewell". Hope someday you can watch one of the three! (Quick summary): - "Crazy Rich Asians" (2018) - "The Farewell" (2019) - "Our Family Wedding" (2010)

The books are way better. Peeta actually lost his legs at the end of 1. That's another reason why he struggled to run and the old lady sacrificed herself. The plan was to keep Peeta safe to make Katness happy

Finnick and Johanna are such great characters. I'd watch movies based on just them. They have some stories to tell. Finnick gaining secrets... and why does Johanna have no one else to lose?

There's a prequel movie in the works about President Snow based on the new book that just came out! It sheds a lot more light on how the story of the country and the games themselves developed. Hoping they do it justice because imo THG movies we have so far are amazing. The entire point of this series is about classism, propaganda, and manufactured poverty. The cruelty and humiliation of the games and their lives in the districts is the entire point. Their revolution was inevitable tbh. Also idk if they ever mention Johanna's strategy for how she won her games in the movies, but it's genius, she pretended to be a huge whimp and coward until the last minute when she revealed how brutal she was. Just like after Finnick wins his games he has to play the playboy/manwhore role to survive when in reality he's being pimped against his will. The levels to the different faces and personas these characters have to put on to survive is so fascinating.

When book 1 starts Katniss is already a deeply traumatized person (father’s death, mother so depressed she can’t get out of bed even though they’re all literally starving to death, becoming the primary provider for her family at age 11.) She’s more beat up but still mostly herself after the first games. When the uprisings start and the quarter quell is announced, she’s hanging on by thread. After everything that happened with the rebel breakout from the arena, she just snaps. What you were saying about trust issues is actually Exactly how Katniss thinks (lol you just didn’t pick up on the fact the she was wrong right away :p) The books are written in first person and you two have a lot of the same thoughts about what’s happening.

The scene where katniss is in the chariot and in that awesome flaming outfit and she stares down Snow and he looks afraid is my absolute favorite scene in the entire series

I remember reading these books as they were published. The last line of Catching Fire is "There is no District 12" and then the book just ENDS. I hated having to wait until Mockingjay came out to read what happened.

Cracking up over you saying he came up out the water like Aquaman, since that man played Aquaman in Smallville. I love Catching Fire. Arguably the best in the book and film series. I love the themes of rebellion, police states, media and propaganda, and so much more. I also have always loved that Katniss is a reluctant hero. Everyone wants her to change the world, but she just wants to do what’s best for her given her circumstances. Just wait until you get into Mockingjay.

The commitment to the fake names is very impressive haha. David’s name is actually Peeta not Peter, but everyone I know who first saw the movie or listened to the audiobook all got it wrong. Probably because Peeta is not actually a name 🤪

I’m with you I would have been ready to fight back immediately but Katniss is not a born 'revolutionary' or natural leader, she's just the average person concerned about her family and family first, but ultimately that's why she is so relatable to the districts and able to mobilize them.

This whole series is so depressing but still so good To think that all could actually happen I mean we see the separation of the rich from the poor more everyday

Just watched the reaction to the first movie too and all the questions he asked made me realize just how much info from the books they left out. Like even the three finger salute in the very beginning lacked impact because in the book, they explain right there that it's a sign of respect and a way to say goodbye to someone you love so she was up there on stage trying not to bawl her eyes out on camera. That being said, how is he commenting all the things Katniss was thinking so much 😂😂😂 Billy was totally channeling that energy~ Fun fact! Something else left out/changed from the books: In District 12, there were two classes of people. The light-skinned blonde town people who had more money like Peeta, and the darker-skinned dark-haired people who were in mega poverty working the mines like Katniss, Gale, and Haymitch.

Even Better Sequel: While the first film is good, the sequel improves on it in every way; A new director, no more Jitter Cam, better performances from everyone, spot-on pacing, much improved effects, a darker and more mature story that remains completely faithful to the book... and of course to top it all off, *a special edition of the Hunger Games featuring past winners,* filmed in IMAX no less and with a shocking and sudden Cliffhanger ending.

Fun fact: Finnick said that he didn’t know how much Katniss loved Peeta until Peeta almost died when he hit the force field in the arena

Basically what Katniss needed was the dandelion in the spring which is ironic because when they were both 11 Katniss’ father died and they were basically starving to death and one day she tried to sell her sister’s baby clothes to get some money so they could eat and she walked past the bakery (Peeta’s dad was a baker) and she looked in the trash bins for some old bread or something for her family to eat and then she heard the baker’s wife Peeta’s mom open the door and she started yelling at her and she started to back away and then Peeta saw this and purposely burned 2 loaves of bread which he gave to Katniss and she figured out that she could hunt to feed herself and her little sister

Back when reading the book, I drew a diagram of that glock arena to visualice where what area was. I'm still kind of unhappy that we never found out ALL the areas, so my diagram is incomplete to this day xD

that scene where katniss is in the tube going into the games is where the aspect ratio changes completely, one of the most incredible camera techniques used.

I always loved the second arena because it’s just so clever! I love how much you’re enjoying these, they are (in my opinion) some of the best book to movie translations I’ve ever seen. Can’t wait for the next one!

The books were amazing. The movies changed a couple things as all movies do but for an adaptation, this movie series probably stayed the most faithful to the original source material than any other movie adaptation I can think of. I think they did a real fine job.

Finnick probably saved Peeta because he knew that without him Katniss would not have listened to anything anyone had to say. He needed Katniss to be willing to listen.

That really is the way the media is me: I am so happy you caught it, because the movie kind of glosses over that message which is in fact kind of one of the major themes of the book series. Like even in the way they promoted the movie they were like "team peta or team gale" trying to focus on the love triangle when Katniss is only 1% invested in romance, 99% invested in revolution. Anyway glad you enjoyed the movie! I love your videos, and it was really fun rewatching this movie with you

Definitely looking forward to watching this commentary reaction!!! This is my favorite of both the movies and the books. 😊 It introduced us to one of my other favorite tributes: Finnick Odair. I'll always remember that when I went to see this movie in the theater with my sister and the scene with the mutt monkeys came up, even though we knew it was coming up it still startled the you know what out of us. LOL! I highly recommend the 2008 movie "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and its 2012 sequel "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island". #Bingers

You are right - the books are absolutely great! They are one of my favorite series and I re-read them often. I also agree with what many people have said - these movies are probably the best book to movie adaption I’ve seen.

When Peeta (David) was walking out, the reason he looks so sus is he drew a picture of Rue (Tatiana) Covered in flowers. And they were (in the books) wearing flotation devices for those like David who can't swim. The Fog affected their balance and their nerve endings so that is why she kept falling.
