It's an aspect of the movie I didn't like at all. They're all given superhuman strength, toughness, and agility. It takes away from what was a key aspect in the comic - that these are really just normal people, well trained perhaps, but no less mortal and prone to error than any of us.

Its weird that people keep calling Ozymandias a "villain", I thought if Watchmen taught us anything, is that heroes and villains aren't your typical black and white characters and sometimes you need to do bad things to achieve the greater good. If some "hero" held on to his principles and let mankind destroy itself, you'd still call that being heroic? I'd say being a hero is being able to make these tough decisions.

idk much about comics or superheroes, what makes Ozymandias so much stronger than his nite owl and rorschach
@TheDoctor2nd
@TheDoctor2nd 2 года назад
@@jetdry8651 the fighting in the film is much more exaggerated than in the comics, with the human characters punching through walls and such. But what makes Ozymandias a superior combatant is that he has completely mastered self-discipline to an extreme degree. He trains his body to Olympic levels of performance and meditates to keep his mind calm and controlled, even during times of extreme stress. Nite Owl has martial arts training, but relied more on his engineering prowess to create technical solutions to problems, like his airship having crowd control measures or his suit emitting a sonic pulse that messes with equilibrium, and thus is not as skilled in combat. Rorschach meanwhile grew up on impoverished, suffering bullying and abuse before becoming a ward of the state where he was considered a boxing prodigy but never committed to much of a career. His trauma gives fuel to his rage and allows him to push past pain and fight harder than the average person, but not to necessarily a superhuman level. Ozymandias, on the other hand, demonstrates the reflexes and practice to catch a bullet.

@Garrus1995
@Garrus1995 2 года назад
Jet Dry, Yeah, it’s referenced in the comic that at some point in the past, the Comedian and Ozy fought it out and Comedian won. I think that’s part of the reason Ozy goes and kills Blake himself; it’s partly revenge for humiliating him, something an egomaniac like Ozy can’t stand.
@pathos7527
@pathos7527 2 года назад
I like how in the process of explaining his plan, he also explains an important reason why the two of them can never beat him in combat via mentioning how he learned to read Dr Manhattan’s subtle body language. If those subtle twitches made Manhattan’s emotions plain to see, then these two’s VERY obvious body language and raise in their tone must telegraph to him they are about to attack from miles away. A small detail maybe, but things like that are what add up to make a scene great on reflection.
@phomairolls
@phomairolls 2 года назад
that seems really far fetched
@denzilbrowder5509
@denzilbrowder5509 2 года назад
@@phomairolls actually it's not, most martial arts don't call it as much, but anticipating and predicting what your opponent will do in a fight is a technique taught in pretty much every combat martial art, what it really boils down to is psycho-analyzing your opponent, looking for those "little twitches" to clue you into what their doing, IE someone with a gun will almost ALWAYS look right where they're planning to shoot you right before they adjust aim and fire, if you can detect that twitch, and respond in the window between the look and aim adjust, you can make them miss because they'll instinct fire when you move, and you move out of the line of fire just enough, is it reliable once the lead is flying in earnest? no. but if their only a few foot away and one shot is all they'll get, making that one shot miss could be the difference between you disarming them, and you on the floor becoming another statistic. Now am i saying just go out and try this? hell no, it can takes years of training to develop both the perceptive, and reactive ability to even attempt this feat, and even then only as a last resort, but it IS possible.

His outcome was better measured by far. He put the fear of an actual god into people on earth. It wasn't just randomly lopping off half of a population to make the other half live better lives, it was pounding humanity into a single piece instead of a bunch of countries having petty prideful political squabbles. He gave them an enemy, a permanent one they could never hope to beat, bearing over their heads and promising instant obliteration on whimsy alone. It was no longer Russians, Chinese, Americans, British, Koreans, Turkish, and Japanese. It was Humanity, and God. He turned all the players on the stage into one role, just to fight the shadow he cast on the wall, a wrathful god that didn't even exist.

I don't think that would have the intended effect, he wanted to make it so nobody in the world could ignore this, and to make it such that the thought of nuclear war was so unpalatable to everyone, that they would never consider it again. It's like the aftereffects of WW1/2 compared to Vietnam, all were horrific examples of human violence, but the former two left entire nations (even the formerly aggressive imperialist British) and entire generations so put off war that they couldn't fathom ever being in another (and this effect continued until the next few generations "forgot" their history). The British disarmed after WW1 and were very reluctant to enter WW2 despite the encroaching German front precisely because of their previous experience with such war (and also because of other issues like antisemitism in the ruling class and such), for example. The Americans made a huge deal about 9/11 (largely because they'd never actually been attacked on home soil in any significant capacity within the past century), but compare 9/11 to Nagasaki and Hiroshima, which were completely unjustified in my opinion but they had the intended effect of scaring the entire world into submission (which also placed the US at the top of the geopolitical power hierarchy funnily enough), meanwhile 9/11 just led to a generation of warfare the initial cause for which was largely forgotten. The Japanese still remember Nagasaki and Hiroshima, and they completely change the outlook of their country based on it, and the threat of utter destruction should imperialist Japan take up arms again. Imagine if a 9/11 scale attack hit each Capitol City, it would be horrible yes, and a tragic loss of life. But do you really think it would change the outlook of those nations? Now launch a Nagasaki/Hiroshima level attack on the same cities, what do you think the response would be? Because I think the latter would result in a joint commission of those nations working together to prevent this ever happening again, the latter would lead to some form of international treat banning nuclear weaponry completely, and just generally have a much larger effect than the 9/11 scale attack. Also I don't think Adrian has fine control over the energy output, he weaponized the process that Doctor Manhattan uses, but he hasn't had time to completely control every aspect. Not only that, but this probably is the minimum amount of people he thinks will achieve the intended result. If you are going to kill potentially millions of people to achieve world piece, it's probably better to err on the side of caution so they didn't die for nothing.

@@AveSicarius_The Americans made a huge deal about 9/11_ Yeah, they should have just sucked it up. If it had happened anywhere else, it would still be treated with the respect it deserves, but because it's chik and cool the hate america and refuse to empathize with americans, it doesn't fucking matter. Talking about 9/11 the way you do actually makes me feel sick. You're fucked up. _Nagasaki and Hiroshima, which were completely unjustified_ You are so wrong its hard to believe. if the parts of Japan that were redeemable hadn't responded to the bombs by taking the brass and murdering them so they could surrender when they did, the Japanese officials would have forced the americans to kill to genocide the japanese, either through actual demographic obliteration, or getting so close that no culture survives at all. You don't know anything about the actual bombs, Japan's response, or fucking anything. You reek of public education designed to brainwash you into thinking of americans as worthless, evil apes, and its gross.

@@AveSicarius There's also the point that almost-literally annihilating the major cities so it's ludicrously difficult to properly rebuild them is a longer-lasting lesson than completely wiping the places out or merely levelling their CBDs.

The most terrible part of the scene is that Ozzy is not wrong. He's laying teuth bombs one after another. This fight is a metaphor about what needs to be done vs the goodness of the human heart. What we want is not what is sometimes needed. And Ozzy is sacrificing his humanity to save the world. It's tragic. Even if he wins the fight, he still loses.
