Thanks for 40,000 subscribers everyone!!! Inching closer and closer to that Silver Play Button! This video was supposed to be done last week, but I broke one of the CPU socket stand-offs from the Corsair H100i mounting hardware. Over-torqued the mounting screw and snapped the stand-off. Had to order another mounting kit to finish the video... I also didn't have much faith in this experiment working out, so I didn't film some things. Such as, the re-tubing and re-filling of the AIO. Hope you all enjoy the video regardless!

Haha holy shit dude. "I went with an AIO instead of custom loop" and still ended up making it a custom loop anyway. This PC has been an adventure! It's so crazy how different it is now
@WiltshireTutorials

I never really thought of it that way! I guess the AIO did turn in a custom loop in the end lol. Glad to hear you enjoyed the adventure that is OptiFlex. I was thinking about how much different it is now as well. May make a montage combining all the videos into one. I still have a few potential ideas for it. So, there may be more life to OptiFlex yet. Thanks for sticking around and watching OptiFlex evolve! I appreciate it.

Whoa, insanely cool! I wasn't expecting you to actually mod an AIO instead of a custom loop, but this is even better! Imo, totally worth it just for the experience alone. Like in my project, where there are no real benefits to cooling or performance, but the build process itself and the creative ways of unusual PC modding is what I live for. Also, thanks for including my comments :) Btw, that server AIO is weird... Cool, but very weird. As you seen in my mini-ITX, I simply gutted a few cheap Chinese AIOs ($27 each, bought 3 just because lol) and refilled them with the desired rad size, might've been easier for you to do something similar, but regardless, it looks like it worked out great and you now own the most badass OptiFlex in the world. I might consider finding an old one somewhere cheap just to try and mod one myself :) Either way, great stuff as always, can't wait to see more like this!
@WiltshireTutorials
@WiltshireTutorials 4 года назад
Happy to hear you think my idea was cool! It was the only route I could take after the custom loop idea fell through! Like you said, there isn't much of a performance benefit to having the AIO in OptiFlex (most due to the locked 6700). But, at least I can say I have a water cooled Dell Optiplex! No need to thank me! I should be thanking you for your suggestion! The AIO from Dynatron is rather bizarre, yes. Didn't even know something like it existed until I stumbled upon it. I think I spent 15 minutes just looking at the AIO itself when I got it. I was trying to figure out if I could actually make it work or if I just wasted $140USD on this thing lmao. At the time of buying the Dynatron L6, I didn't know it was meant for GPUs. I thought it would come with a CPU backplate and bracket to mount it. But, it only came with a GPU bracket. Like you said, there's probably an easier way of doing things, but it worked lol. I would totally recommend modding an Optiplex. They're cheap and easy to find parts for. So, if you mess up, it's not the end of the world. Not sure I have too many ideas left for OptiFlex. But, I'm sure I'll come up with something else! Until then, I have a few more project ideas that I want to work on now. They also are doing my own mods to things. Thanks for the continued support! I appreciate it very much man!

I came here after commenting on your other optiplex video. How you found the room to fit that in is just a feat of engineering. Now I 100% love the window you cut in the side. It's like a mini version of a full sized gaming rig. Pushing old tech until the wheels fall of is the best way to go in my humble opinion. I can basically afford to buy any prebuilt top tier gaming pc any day of the week. But getting the most out of older hardware is more fun. 60 fps on high at 1080p doesn't look any better on a more expensive system. Great job!

Glad you decided to check out more on OptiFlex. Getting that Dynatron L6 to fit was not that fun lol. That was pretty much the idea of the whole project, how far I could push an Optiplex 3040. It makes for a good travel gaming and editing rig too, due to its size.

Did you consider using a fan adapter to mount a more common 60mm or 80mm radiator and fan? What about using an external water cooling system to bypass all these problems?
@WiltshireTutorials
@WiltshireTutorials 4 года назад
I did consider it, I even 3D printed a 70mm to 80mm adapter. However, aesthetics are somewhat important to me. I didn't like the way it looked with the adapter on the radiator. So, I decided to not include it. Going from an 80mm to 70mm fan resulted in a 1 degree difference, which is within the margin of error.

If so, which standard cables from the SF600 PSU did you use to connect to the 2x3 (6 pin) connecter on the Dell motherboard, and which to connect to the 2x2 (4pin) connector on the Dell Board motherboard? Did you use the 24-pin cable at all? Thanks!

Hey Wiltshire, I've got a question that's unrelated to the video, I recently got rid of my Vega 64 and got a rx 5700 because it had gddr6 vram, and also had issues with my vega drivers. I'm able to play most games at 4k on ultra settings, for example witcher 3, warzone, modern warfare, green hell etc. However whenever I try playing gta v on 4k, my fps just floods down to 20fps. Yet I can run games more demanding then gta, is gta really badly optimised on amd GPU? And also, I have 2666 and 3000 mhz ram only, and its running at 2133, my motherboard supports oc, so I try to oc them to 3000, I get a black screen, I try setting them to 2666 black screen, know what the issue could be ? @WiltshireTutorials
@WiltshireTutorials 4 года назад
I am Canadian, yes. The Canadian National Baseball Team hat probably gave it away :p. I tend to use Canadian prices for my videos. I will sometimes include USD somewhere in the video. $1500 will be more than enough to get 1440P at a higher refresh rate. Remember, the more you go up in resolution, the more GPU bound you are. It's best to purchase a really good GPU over a really expensive CPU when gaming at higher resolutions.
@Lacoste9277
@Lacoste9277 4 года назад
@@WiltshireTutorials yeah I'm aware of that. Just been so long since I built my last pc, so I've been looking at sites to get an idea of how much to spend. I just don't want to potentially put 2 year old hardware in a new build. A lot of what I seen going for 1500 and up are still using GTX 1660s, an with a lot of American channels and some Canadian channels are using US prices. Mind you on my own faults I have been using like pre custom built PC's to give me the idea of what I'm looking at.

No problem! Nice little rig you've got there! Let's see... Considering the GPU was used for mining, it could be on it's way out (dying). Ex-Mining GPUs are not very trustworthy or reliable. Mining uses the GPU at 100% 24/7. So, the likelihood of it burning out is very high. If this is the case, try underclocking both the Memory and GPU Core Clocks to see if the GPU becomes more stable. As GPUs age, they may not be able to maintain their factory default clocks anymore. That PSU wattage is pushing it too. That GPU will draw 200W on it's own and the CPU will draw 84W at full load. You're stressing that PSU really badly! Don't forget your motherboard, RAM and SSD all need power too and with the remaining available 6W, it won't be long until it goes pop and blows up!

Can I add a gtx 1660 super by gigabyte(not the one with 3 fans) in a dell optiplex 3070 tower(not the micro) without upgrading the psu(260 w)
@WiltshireTutorials
@WiltshireTutorials 4 года назад
No, not at all. That GPU at full load would almost saturate the stock PSU. You have to take into consideration how much wattage the CPU, chipset and drives (HDD OR SSD) draw as well. That GPU also requires an 8-pin power cable too. If I'm not mistaken, that PSU only has a single 6-pin power cable.

How did you manage to power the pump and fans?? or even mount the water block on the cpu? or did the motherboard support the backplate
@WiltshireTutorials
@WiltshireTutorials 3 года назад
All good questions. All of which I have an answer to. The AIO pump is powered by a molex to 3-pin fan adapter. This way the pump is running at full speed all the time providing the best cooling possible. The AIO fans are plugged into the CPU FAN header on the motherboard. Luckily, the 3040 motherboard has standard 4-pin PWM fan headers on it. The motherboard is a standard Intel LGA 115X mount design. So, any cooler that fits the LGA 115X socket will work. Hope that answers all your questions. Let me know if you have any more! Thanks for watching

@@jeekzy8319 installing an aftermarket cooler should be a walk in the park. You will need to remove the factory standoffs from the case. For some reason, the standoffs are soldered to the Optiplex case. Glad you like the videos!

Excellent video. I own a dell optiplex 3040 but i have issue with cpu & case temps, i cant control my fans speed or let the motherboard use optimal speed for the temps in the case, either they run at the lowest speed or override the fans at maximum speed. you said in the video i want to control my fan speed 5:20. How did you do it?? btw both my fans are 4 pin pwm
@WiltshireTutorials
@WiltshireTutorials 4 года назад
Hey Admad, I'm glad you liked the video. The Dell Optiplex 3040 has a feature called SupportAssist. Before the PC boots into Windows, it checks all the hardware to make sure it is functioning properly. If it thinks there is a problem with the fans, for example, it will not allow the fans to adjust themselves based upon thermals. What are your CPU thermals looking like? It could be the CPU running too warm and SupportAssist is trying to compensate for that by running the fans at max speed. If the CPU is running too warm, I recommend putting new thermal paste on the CPU. As for controlling the fan speed, I control them by using HWinfo. That app is also quite useful for keeping an eye on thermals! So, you could use it to monitor your CPU thermals to see if re-applying thermal paste helps or not.

@@WiltshireTutorials My cpu is i7 6700 when i play games like cod warzone my cpu temperature gets to high 80 low 90c at the same time my cpu fan as well case fan are idling running at lowest speed, similar temps are in other games depending on cpu utilization. There is an option in the bios to let me choose to run the fans at maximum speed but they'll run all time at max speed even on idle which makes the pc so loud. I re-applied thermal paste but that doesn't appear the issue. The software im using is HWMonitor, also tried SpeedFan program same problem. Any idea why im having this problem? I really appreciate your reply and help.

@@WiltshireTutorials This sounds like a lot of work, but you could design a top hat for the optiplex where you could fit a 240 radiator, and use the cpu pump for both the cpu and gpu. Though I dont know if the cpu pump is good enough for that.
@WiltshireTutorials
@WiltshireTutorials 4 года назад
You could probably put a radiator externally on the top of the OptiPlex 3040 case. I personally don't like the look of having things outside of the PC case. I'm not sure if the pump that's attached to the radiator of the Dynatron L6 is strong enough to circulate the fluid through a full water loop.
@Painted_J
@Painted_J 4 года назад
@@WiltshireTutorials yeah that's the main concern, I have seen it done for itx cases, but for something that big (LMAO optiplex is too big) it might be too much, thanks for listening to my idea thought. I'll be waiting for your next video!
@WiltshireTutorials
@WiltshireTutorials 4 года назад
One thing that could be done is to look up the flow rate for the water pump on the Dynatron L6. This could be done by looking up the model number of the pump and looking at the datasheet for it or by seeing if Dyantron has the flow rate listed on the webpage for the L6 AIO. You could then compare the flow rate of the water pump on the L6 to a known water pump that can support a full water loop. It's not a bad suggestion at all. Some may try it and like it aesthetically. I'm always open to taking ideas from the comments section!
