If you have any type of gutter guard or gutter cover system, you'll usually have issues with gutter overflow. This simple trick should help to handle areas that have too much flow for the gutters.
This prying wider may help "some". However, once the flow is too hard, it jumps over anyway. You do not want water to be blocked back towards the shingles as that can rot the underwood and also ice dam in the fall colder weather. So don't use a block flashing as shown in the video. The only answer that has held the test of time is adding a second gutter in these V groove corners and placing a block flashing to divert the water into the second gutter. Separate drains are wise as well. Leave the existing gutters as they are.
Bad idea, The water is overshooting because it’s a valley. Water in that size valley will break tension at the top of the curve, opening the gap won’t help. As a gutter installer for 15 years now the best thing you can do is cut about a foot and a half of the topper away and cover with a screen. Remove the flashing and just keep the screen clean. It will still overshoot in a heavy rain but it will catch lighter rains. Even gutter with no solid topper will overshoot in valleys....... That’s why you see flashing or splash blocks on valleys with or without topper.
omgoodness THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO...I was just lloking through here for diy ideas for my roof rain runoff . the water is coming off sooo strong and hard that its making this indentations in my lawn on both sides of my backyard patio. im gonna try this .thank you so much.....FYI MY HOME IS ONLY 3 YRS OLD . up til this year we couldnt get a pizza delivered because the neighood was so new..lol
You should also try pressure washing the outsides of those guards. The buildup on the outsides creates friction that allows the water to drip off the guard before wrapping around and dripping inside the gutter.
I noticed that where the shingles curve together will wear them out very quickly, suggesting an aluminum valley channel to avoid excessive wear but great idea to open up the eavestrough space
I have the joined roof line that your video showed, but I do not have a feaf guard just way too much over flow! I need a "corner Collection funnel like collection down spout'" any suggestion?
What you need to do is very simple drill holes and make that area perforated then stick a spike in the holes and turn it towards the valley creating the holes to be cheese grated get rid of the diverter it is just catching trash. This is the answer I install this product on a regular basis. Also you are defeating the purpose by opening up that space more because now it is subject to get leaves and debris inside that big space space also the water is less likely to pull around because now you have made the edge at a sharper angle and is more subject to ever fly and not work with surface tension like they are designed you should never Force the panels to be in any other position then the way they come factory made. It is also very important to keep these panels clean by pressure washing or wiping across because pollen will collect and create a film of dirt which will make the water take the less resistant path and drop off the face. There are better products but this one is decent if it is installed correctly less maintenance and just open gutters with no guards at all.
Thats one way to do it, this is the issue with gutter helmets; especially when improperly installed. But as a seasoned roofer, I don't recommend your diverters being located at the bottom of valleys like this, I don't recommend it at all if you live in a state that snows.
Calling the company that installed them and giving them an opportunity to correct them would've been a good place to start. How did this solution end up working for you?
Nest are NOT going to be in the Water or on the Bottom of the Gutters.. They will be hanging from the bottom side of the Guard.. Bees don't get Wet,, Not if they can help it..
No trees .so why having them. Aslo the shingles needs to be cut back 1" back at the z bend. So the water can slow down. Is great what you did to those guards...easy fix.
so why have gutter helmets or gutter guards. The best gutter guard is routine cleaning. depending on area. even if you have no leafs, a bird can nest on downspout, air brings debris etc. routine cleaning gutter guards the best, sold by your local human.
Those are one of the worst gutter guards ......and 9 times out of 10, you will find wasp nests inside of them. Leaf Solutions make a miter corner filter that works great .
Gutter helmet is a waste of money and that one was installed incorrectly. Tear it off and put regular leafguard and problem fixed. No such thing as maintenance free guttering. Leafguard cuts down on how often u need to clean it.
