It's possible you might need to upgrade to 6-in gutters depending on the steepness of your roof and the relative location of the gutter compared to the shingle drop off... They'll keep them out of the gutter... But nothing's going to prevent them from building on top of the gutter...

Very true! Gutter guards and splash diverters don't eliminate required maintenance... they simply change the nature of that required maintenance. There are extendible Paint poles at the various supply houses that can reach 20 feet or more. A little red-neck ingenuity and there are ways to make bushes that can clear those without the need for a ladder. There are goosenecked pressure washer and hose poles. There are goosenecks for leaf blowers and shop vacs. Nothing is maintenance free... but some forms of maintenance are easier than others, and need to be done less frequently than others... Pay your money, place your bets, make your choice.

i haven't seen the larger, commercially, but any roofer or siding company who has a sheet metal brake can bend one from aluminum coil stock. Our local ACE hardware has a rental division, and I suspect if you bought a roll of metal from their flashing asile, they'd probably allow you to bend it on the brake for free there in the store.
