We put a woodstove in our house a couple years ago just in case things go down. We are very lucky as we live on the St. Lawrence so plenty of water. Have been stocking up on food since Covid started and still stocking up. I try to warn others but they think I’m crazy! Stock up!!!
@26skogen
@26skogen Месяц назад
I did the same thing last year. Ordered 3 cords of wood for the winter already to mke sure I stay warm next winter. It can get to -20 here. Yes, there has been hacking in water systems here for the last few years and maybe longer. As for banks, it may be a short time before a lot of banks are in trouble and some are restricting withdrawls because of fractional reserve banking. There isn’t enough money in the FDIC to cover list deposits for everyone so prepare for that. Trump lowered the amount banks are required to keep in their vaults which made things worse. Prepare, prepare, prepare.

I am in Lanaudière...also have a woodstove...use it a lot in winter...I also have been stocking up...glad I did because some end of months were challenging...as you people think the stores will always be full and we are surrounded by farmers....

All of us that are preparing get the exact same treatment, they think we're crazy. I think half of them are preparing but won't admit it because they're afraid to let anyone know that they're stockpiling. We'll never know. Unless they come knocking on your door.

Thank you Toni, I'm glad you raise these issues as we know the overlords work in tandem. I'm in the UK and we have had water issues here. In Devon, they have been without drinking water for about a week. They say it was a faulty valve in a farmers field and about 50 people were made ill from contaminated water. The authorities gave out bottled water but animals were also affected. Also, there has been a public outcry to clean our bathing waters as it appears the water companies have been releasing sewerage into rivers after heavy rain. As for collapsing systems, our NHS is overburdened and we still have train strikes for 2 years now. Pot holes are now appearing on our motorways (M6 near me) which is frightening. We have just had a General Election called. You couldn't vote for either party it's Vomit or Diarrhea or Pepsi vs. Coke. Neither have any power without the Banks. The Banks call the shots and the country is bankrupt. Everyone really does need to prepare.

It was a wakeup call, August 2003. That's when there was a widespread power outage in the northwest and some areas of the midwest USA and the province of Ontario in Canada. 50 million people were without power for days. It resulted in chaos. It clearly shows how very vulnerable we are. I agree no one can be totally self reliant. It would be beneficial for people to brush up on old fashioned skills. That would add a layer of protection for people.

Not a user of credit cards, so I feel pretty safe. No on-line banking either. I'm not smart enough to keep ahead of hackers, so I am not taking any chances. We lived in a rural area for many years, depending on a well that was dry most of the time, so we had to pay for water delivery. We had a garden and lots of animals, so we saved water wherever we could, every eavestrough had either a barrel or an old freezer parked at the corner, including the barns. Small loads of laundry were done in an apartment-sized washer with a spin dryer on the side, larger ones at the laundromat. Dishwater and laundry water was saved for flushing the toilet. (I used two dishpans). Rinse water from dishes was used to wash the floors.

Our house is "in a city subdivision" so the water prep we do is this; we have ten 5 gallon bottles full of filtered water for drinking. The eleventh bottle is on the water cooler in the kitchen, when that one is empty, my husband will put another on and take the empty down to the water filter business and have it refilled and capped. At home, that bottle goes to the end of the line so there is a slow rotation happening. Water doesn't "go bad" as much as it goes flat (like flour in long term storage) so stirring it will help. What the problem is, unless you store it in glass after a few years it will take on the smell and taste of the plastic container. So we have 50 gallons of drinking water. For other water, we bought a bucket filtering system at our local farm supply (you can order them online). You put 5gallons of dirty water in the top bucket and over time it filters through into the bottom bucket. We bought a couple dozen filters. Hopefully if the worst happens, it will provide a cushion of time to work toward a solution. The drinking water came in handy after hurricane Irma, no water or electric for 6 days. It took us about 18 months to buy everything. First, 2 bottles of water and a hand pump, then the cooler. After that we bought a bottle every month untill we had 11 bottles. Lastly, we bought the bucket filter to keep in case it the situation got really bad. Edit ~ there is a lake about 2 miles from the house and if necessary we could walk there for water to filter. It might take all day (we're old) but its doable. Edit 2 ~ after writing that first edit, I got to thinking...it might be a good idea to get a wagon that can carry 2 5gallon buckets. Easier to pull a bucket of water than carry that bucket. 🤔

Rain barrels! 1/4" of rain will fill the blue ones almost full. But since you have a bucket system, plastic trash cans at the drip edge of a carport can hold a lot of water!

@@gidget8717 You are welcome! They have rain barrel calculators on some of the sites that help you calculate the area × inches of rain = gallons. A 1/4" of rain doesn't sound like a lot but it is. Put a screen over the barrel opening to keep leaves and trash out.

Hi Toni - I’m worried about you as you sound stressed - put your faith in the Lord let him guide you to your next move. We love living in the boonies its wonderful, so relaxing watching birds and listening to them sing, while having lots of space to garden, wood stove and well water - with backup generator when needed. You are correct in saying that no one is totally self sufficient, but we are as close as we can get at this point - definitely looking at options to get free of the electric grid.

When I put my wood stove in it saved me hugely on my power bill. I installed reverse osmosis in my house and just put the last filter in to take out PFOS, PFOA, and C8. If water becomes an issue I have a stream that runs past my house and a Burkey. Some banks are in trouble too so keep n eye on your bank and be ready to act quickly.

Water is life. In the rule of 3s water is 3 days. This means you can only survive 3 days without. If you have access to rain water or streams, at least have some camping water straws. Get some chlorination tablets. A new tarp n some cordage tied onto a hammock stand n drain off one side into a clean pail is an option to catch rain. Short term remember your water heater can be drained. If you have property you can put in a sand point well with a pitcher pump on top. Around $300.00 plus labor. Ps, if you have empty canning jars, fill them with water while not in use

Here in NB we were without power for a week just before Christmas due to a storm. It's happening frequent in the past few years around our province. Lack of maintenance and an aging power grid adds to the problem. People need to be prepared there is no guarantee we have uninterrupted services.

Toni, did you see this yesterday..? Was in my Google news this morn... The Standard- Niagara Falls " Province failing growing number of people turning to food banks, Niagara officials say" " Ontario has no intetest in reducing its poverty level says the executive director of the Hope Center in Welland".. I just saw these subtitles as I am not a subscriber.....it gave me such a sick to my stomach feeling... I am a widow, single, on retirement...and finding it hard to make ends meet...even prepping now is more difficult....Will look at all my stock and see what I can do...to start prepping again...but imagine a single mother of 3..??..We have 2 food banks here...but our municipality never mentions anything about food insecurity...never..and it is a small community of 10,000...sometimes, I am just exasperated...at the situation...
@HerHomesteadSkills

Nope I didn't see that, but it's consistent with what is happening elsewhere in Ontario. I heard today how thousands are leaving Ontario for Alberta and the East Coast in search of better living conditions, cheaper housing etc!...and yes we personally had one friend move to Alberta and another move to New Brunswick this last year!

Yes this is so important and will effect every living breathing man and dependent pet. I've been saving water in used up milk containers for drinking and there are things you can put in the containers to either purify or keep safe, I also have been saving water in recycling kitty litter buckets for flushing water for washing. I want to invest in a water purifier , they are kinda costly , they will hold and purify a few gallons at a time. Also I want to buy the big 55 gal storage containers but again very expensive for my budget but now I am thinking it's too important to put off any longer and will have to do without some other things in order to buy those. please let us know how or what you do to fix your own water saftey.

I have a well but unfortunately it runs on an electric pump and is 450' deep. I have 18 l water bottles that I rotate and have a rainwater catchment system from a shingled roof..lol. I do water my garden with that water and if I had to, I could run it through my Berkey. Not sure if it would take out all contaminates but probably better than a puddle. I have recently purchased a waterBOB that holds 100 gallons of water in a standard bathtub. Hopefully there will be some sort of warning beforehand so I can fill it up. It has a hand pump with it and seems like a good option. Thanks for your chats.I try to catch them all☺
