I like the way you solder the joints. They always look neat. When my parents had their house re-piped in '87, I don't know what plumbing company did it, but the solder was globed onto the joints. It hasn't leaked, but I like the way you do the job. This is the way real plumbers solder! Great job man!
Nice repair Steven. "No ProPress here!" I see they now have "Mega-Press" so you no longer have to thread black, galvanized, or stainless steel pipe. All old, skilled talents that will be lost in just a few years.
Left side of bleeder during solder looked as though it might have had some moisture leaking, might have just been excess solder. Guess we'll find out in long run. Nice work though enjoyed seeing "ALL" the details instead of just before and after or a high speed video. Thanks Steve, OH missed baby dog too.
Buddy of mine gave up trying to solder his copper pipe in wall going to bathroom. I took a look at it and had to take all the joints apart and sand and clean and then put some flux on every joint. Told him to put away his lead core solder and I used my lead free to solder it back together. It all sweated back together nicely. No leaks
When I've had pipes that wouldn't stop dripping water I would shoot some compressed air or nitrogen in the line and blow the water out the nearest fixture. I don't do the bread thing unless we're taking sandwiches! Great vid Steve! Nice repair!
I found a link for one called a drain fitting. I have always call them vent or bleeder fitting. Nibco 701D 1/2 Drain Coupling Cast Bronze C x C 1/2 In G5003896. If you type this into Google, it should give a picture.
Nice work. I had this happen in my house on a hot water pipe close to the water heater. My house was built in 1976 and has 1/2 inch copper pipes. One pipe developed about 5 very small pin holes ans started leaking. I basically did the same thing you did to fix it. I cut out the bad pipe and replaced it with new 1/2 copper using slip connectors.
Nice job Steve! I have recently been using your trick of using the bleeder valves to prevent steam and water while soldering. I never thought of that after 9 years of plumbing. An old dog plumber once told me 'Bread is for Tuesday night plumbers'. I've never used it either! Keep up the good work. I've got some 3" copper to sweat in the morning. Let's go Turbo Torch!
Hi Johnny, just wanted to point out that there is another fitting he uses to do basically the same thing. I am sure you have in the UK . I don’t remember what it’s called, but I will try to find for you .
I bet you spend more money on them couplings than you do bread my dad was maintenance man for years thats all he used was bread worked every time ill use my 5cent pice of bread and you guys use the 2 dollar couplings
