I'm meeting my Chinese girlfriend's parents in Singapore early next year so I'm doing my homework in preparing as I want to make a great first impression. If there are other tips you have such as what types of gifts to give (should I also have a gift for her older brother?), should I wear a suit, should I stay at a hotel vs staying with her, etc. that would be amazing and appreciated.

The finger tapping custom is very specific to only Hong Kong, & Guangzhou province. I had explained the tea tapping story when I worked in Shanghai and my Chinese colleagues told me they don’t do that nor ever heard of this story in the rest of mainland China, they just say thank you or nod their head.
