WB Is STILL Doubling Down On Live Service Games - Luke Reacts 

WB is one of the dumbest companies in America. Even when they have massive successes like Hogwarts Legacy and Barbie, the sheer volume of their terrible decisions prevents them from achieving any real momentum. They refuse to get out of their own way.

They have Hogwarts Legacy, a complete old school game, that generated 1 billion dollars in revenue only in the first two weeks, and also have Sushi Squad, that is a shitty live service game that can't even maintain a player count above 500. And their conclusion is to make a shitty live service Harry Potter game? Those execs deserve every cent of theirs million dollars bonuses, this is hilarious.

Let it all crumble at this point

This combined with RoosterTeeth getting dissolved really makes things look terrible for WB. They either need to completely change their mindset on how they approach all of their media companies, or just give up. At this point it's just kinda sad to see, investors really are ruining everything.

An important first step: MAKE A GOOD GAME.

If you go show WB that "turn the graph upside down" trick, they'll probably make you CEO.

Funniest thing is Marvel Avengers was a total flop, then they release "kill the justice league" and it also fails massivly and now they double down on free to play and mobile games.

I really am impressed. How can you look at a game that killed everyones childhood characters who they wanted to have a game for and a character in the single most influential superhero game series of all time and think its not live service enough.

All of this WB/SS content takes me back to 2017 when EA and Battlefront Poo were content engines for Laymen Gaming and YongYea.

Prime example of: SpongeBob's How many times do we have to teach you this lesson old man? meme comes to mind. I bought Hogwarts BECAUSE it wasn't infested with MTX's or BP's. You can tell passion was the main driving force for that game and not making the most amount of money possible. Them doubling-down seems incredibly stupid. If they do layoffs they better start with the decision makers/execs at WB or Rocksteady because we could have told them how badly this will end way before they come to that conclusion and millions of dollars already wasted.

I mean, if they want to double down, then they should be prepared for the consequences.

They want a lot of money quickly and over time and I get that. But why don’t they get that we don’t really want more live service games? There’s so many of them right now, some really good, most of them are _really_ bad. Everyone’s competing with the same thing so no one’s really winning other than Helldivers. Genshin and Star Rail are the only live service games I play personally and that works for me. I don’t spend a lot of money on them but at the same time, I don’t mind how much you can buy in the games because they’re *free.* People don’t often want to spend money on a game that already costs $70-$100 A Quidditch game being live service makes sense and could work. A regular Hogwarts Legacy game being live service and always online is a stupid idea and hopefully not what they’re considering

Tbh maybe I'm old school... but I can't see Live Service elements in a Single-Player game. I would like for my SP games to be "Hogwarts Legacy", Playstation Studios type releases, where you buy it once and that's it. You can make side content, patches, etc, but "games-as-a-service" elements? IF they belong anywhere, they belong exclusively in MP games. "Seasons", post-launch content, microtranscations / cosmetics, map switch-ups, expansions. Idk if everyone else sees it this way, but I'm personally hoping this is where the gaming market goes after Suicide Squad.

If making money trumps making a good game, the devs themselves believe in, then what we get is live service manure. I have never spent a single dime on skins and other cosmetic nonsense, and I never will. I do however spend large amounts of money on buying good games, I can play solo.

If they do it the Rockstar way with a great single player and a separate online portion where you are a student with other players, that could be good.

I actually wouldn't mind if they just keep adding content to the next Hogwarts game. If they want to add more skins, missions, areas of the map, etc... that's fine. As long as it's not a regular live service game with a battle pass, never ending story, repeated missions, etc.. We know what WB will do though. They'll do Avengers with a Harry Potter skin over it.

We live in the UK Rocksteady has no cost of health care our taxes pay for our health care unless you go private and most companies don't have private health care benefits.

For a game its different because if you go the path of Game as Service you need to spend money on post launch game ddev, so its more risky even than a traditionnal game.

They're sitting on a gold mine with the nemesis system, blows my mind that they're not developing 10+ games with that system, especially since they made sure nobody else could use it

I think an ingame cash shop makes the game always worse - cause if it is not relevant it get ignored. So they need to build the game in a way that it is noticeable worse if you don't cash in the ingame shop. This always leads to worse games. I don't want and need FOMO BS in my Singleplayer games, I reject ingame cash shops in my full Price Singleplayer games and if they try to force me in the cash shop because the game is bad if I don't, I avoid the game and all upcoming games they make, as long they use this anti consumer tactics. The good thing is there are so many games out there and with the AI tools even smaller AA and Indie studios can do bigger projects. There is more than enough Alternatives. So if they do a Hogwarts 2 in UBI style with all the cash grab BS - I don't buy it. I buy games who are respectful and fair. And they done Millions of Dollars Profit, and it is ok they make a good game they get good profit fair enough - but wanting even more is greed and this I can't support. And this leads to games like Skull and Bones - bland BS because they don't want to make a fun to play game, they have a monetization scheme and try to build something playable around this - if they could they would make a cosmetic shop without a game just to sell you 100$ cosmetics, just an online Hub you can stand around and show your overprices cosmetics to others, nothing more you can'T do anything just buy shit to show it to others. If this would work they would do it - I just hope people don't get stupid enough to support such a scam scheme.

Live service games are not inherently a problem. Helldivers 2 has definitively proven that. The real problem is lack of innovation and imagination.

I wish WB would give up the game business. If you stay away from things that are profitable and stay close to things that are not profitable, the company cannot survive. The same goes for Scamco, which focuses on boring anime games. Selling unused IPs will make you much more profitable. It would be good to sell Gauntlet to Arrowhead, Spy Hunter, RUSH, Some Midway's games to Raw Thrills, Some Atari Games' games to Atari.

The people shilling the game on steam are WB employees. I've seen the gameplay, there is no way any that visual vomit is enjoyable.

Say what you want about Disney recently making some awful decisions but WB has been the worst run company in Entertainment for 25 years. They merged with Time, AOL, bought by AT&T, and then sold off and merged with Discovery. Always behind by 7 years they were on Superhero movies and they were on live service games. David Zasslafs bread and butter is bad cheap reality tv shows. Its obvious WB won't learn their lesson when monetizing Shadow of War failed in 2017, it failed with Sushi Squad this year and will fail again and again until Discovery begs another sap of a CEO to buy WB.
