We all have to take responsibility for our choices in life. We are human. We make mistakes. Just own up to it and go forth.

Such a great rant! It's easy to go into drama mode and turn wants into needs and only see two outcomes and solutions. Sometimes I think debt robs us of more than money and freedom. Debt also robs us of resourcefulness, the joy of less, creativity, etc.

My "Argument" Van: This year I had my fourth child and our little mazda just didn't cut it. We made decent money and since our Sib-In-Law also had a fourth child and financed a $90,000 SUV, man were we tempted to do so! So we were checking out some very nice $50,000 Escalades and there was a check in my heart. So I said we should get something we can pay cash for ($20,000) mark and my husband disagreed. We dragged this on for months until three weeks before my due date I sold my mazda for $3500 and took $2000 and bought "the argument van". It wasn't pretty, or trouble free but it had 6 seats and it ran. It was the best decision we made - three months later my kids came down with the flu during a road trip and there was puke EVERYWHERE. And you know what? Its ok because its a $2000 van that we will only keep until she dies. Imagine if it was the Escalade.

Lol..this confirmation for me...same situation. I have a small mazda that im debating whether we should get an suv this year..either sell it and buy a cheap reliable suv, nothing costly but mainly to have more room for the kids and the new baby👶 Thanks for your input 😊😊

The important part of this rant to take out of it, “If you are ‘rationalizing’ that there is either one decision or another and there is no third or other options, stop and calm down. Start looking for more options, especially if it is a spend lots of money or *die* type of option.”

Oh Dave I have so gotten myself in this pickle. I moved in with my mother to help her out with bills/weight management. Needless to say I have learned you can't help someone who doesn't really want to help themselves. Moving out next year. The positive is what I have learned from this experience. Got to see my mom's true colors.

Bryan Adams~I was in the same position as you. I moved back home to care for my mother, who was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. Omg, it's so difficult to help someone who refuse to help themselves. Especially when that person is your parent. I spent alot of money on my mom's treatment and I don't regret it but omg, it was the hardest, most difficult year of my life. Literally put my life on hold to care for her full time while she's fighting me the entire way. She's passed now and I hope she found peace but I did pity her. She lived a life with a victim mindset. Very hard to help someone who refuses to help themselves.

Nowadays i love my mother from a distance. She is an alcoholic and she lost her job, almost lost her nursing license, friends, and some family members because of this disease :/ I can't help her anymore. I've come to terms that u can help someone only so much! it hurts but im 22 and i have to go on with my life. I wish her nothing but the best. But one takeaway i got from this ordeal is to NEVER DRINK OR USE DRUGS! Furthermore, at a certain age the dynamic and relationship changes and ultimately u have to part ways. Lastly, try to NEVER depend on anyone. Not your spouse, siblings, or friends because at the end of the day YOU are all YOU got.

@Brian Best. Have you tried looking into some helpful Christian organizations for help like Teen Challenge. It's more of a stronghold, than a disease. I do hope she gets help. I've learned the same as you. I got so depressed worrying about my parents health that I came to the conclusion, if they die, then they die. That's when the burden lifted off of me some haha. The funny issue now is I've had health problems and they push me and I can be stubborn. I did seek help earlier, but gave up due to doctors thinking I was too young to have "health problems" after being in an 18wheeler accident. My accident is different from your mother's, but maybe she's holding on to some guilt/shame due to the condition she is in. Maybe not. I really hope things get better for you both. I said a prayed for you and your mother.
@MrThinkEncourager
@MrThinkEncourager 6 лет назад
@Bryan Adams, did you try out any gyms or anything. I think that's one way to help, also having too many (big) expectations can be bad as well, especially with a female's weight. They won't lose as fast as males. I hope things turn around. Also eating more solid foods might help. Don't juice everything. I remember reading an article about how 3 apples can make 1 cup of apple juice. You'll most likely get full from eating solid apples quicker. I'd probably start feeling full on the first apple, lol, but I could sit and drink probably drink about 1 to 2 gallons of apple juice, lololol.
@terriesmith8219
@terriesmith8219 6 лет назад
Brian Best~Agreed with you. Sometimes it's best to part ways and wish them well and love them from afar. Even if that's your family member. We have to take care of ourselves first before we can take care of anyone else. And we can't help the unwilling, no matter how hard we try. They have to want it too. Life is just too short to be around toxic or victim mindset type of people, even if it's your family member.

When I pause to consider it, it amazes me how spoiled our culture is, with all the things we think we 'need' and 'deserve'. Even our poorest are leap years ahead much of the population in other parts of the world. Yet for many of us, we convince ourselves that we are 'less than' if we don't have x, y, z.

Children DO die in accidents, as well as adults. There is nothing wrong with wanting a safe vehicle, but you don't need to blow lots of money to have one. Do your research. My grandmother, during the 1950s, had an accident and sustained brain damage. She had 5 children, to which she never returned as the mother they knew.

This is soooooo true, it's crazy. However, my fiance and I couldn't get to work due to bus schedules in our town. I've ridden a bike, daily, 17 miles round trip in rainy season in GA, getting drenched the whole ride, and changing clothes, socks, shoes, getting to work an hour early to do so, etc. When I had good enough credit to afford a used car payment and insurance, I had to do it even though it meant eating ramen. Sometimes it's right for you. It's okay. But be reasonable!

He lost me at "Most families in 1960 had 1 car." That's because most families had the mom staying home with the kids back then. Most families cannot afford that these days. I'm not saying his entire argument is invalid, because he's mostly right, but that's a terrible example.
@dinostrunkguitarist

The reason most families can't afford to live on one income is that they live beyond their means and have a ton of debt. So both have to work all the time to pay for it.

Ok, lets separate the two type of parents: the ones that fornicate to conceptualized and the pens that fornicate because they are lustful. I bet the people who wanted kids perform those who had kids because of 3 seconds of passion. That being said, I wouldn't mind kids, but only until I'm finished with my Eds. + wife.
