I married someone I met in college, ignored red flags, he didn't want to say he loved me. He didn't want me to leave. I excused his immaturity- we were best friends but, he didn't love me, and I didn't realize it and neither did he. We were great roommates. I thought I was being his friend, it came from an honest place. It's a blessing that it's over. Don't waste your life.

"Lack of regulation of anger" as the caller puts it is such a huge red flag. Name calling and flying off the handle WILL lead to physical violence. Calling off the wedding was absolutely the right call. That man is not a safe person.

Unless you are there to witness the argument, you can’t say that. Many women think they should be free to do whatever and say whatever to a man…and he’s just supposed to accept her bad behavior. (“Men don’t have feelings….”) I guarentee you that she is telling the version of the story that makes her look best. She could very easily be provoking him with outrageous behavior in her anxious need for closeness that provoked him to a healthy response (anger) to his personal boundaries being violated. IOW, this is the same crap Amber Heard pulled on Johnny Depp…and everyone rushed yo believe her without any proof. Oops. When you have a couple who have a volatile relationship like this? It’s usually the healthier of the two who taps out first. They get sick of the drama and finally leave.

Maggie, wish you all the best but he is not for you. I spent two hours last week talking to my daughter about her boyfriend and how things should work. In this case, you can't listen to your heart. You have to rely on what you see and hear, your family and friends. It sounds to me, this is the best for you albeit very painful. Everything has an expiration date, pain and heartache as well. It will pass. Take care of yourself.

You definitely are a female because a marriage is much more difficult to get out of as a man than to enter it. All you have to do is sign a marriage contract to enter one but to exit you must pay child support, alimony, lose assets and give up your pension.

My fiancé and I got engaged after 6 months and his statement about everything is about loving each other and it’s gross then eventually the excitement ends. It’s so true. After living together for 2 years, we have enter into roommate phase all the time but it’s about communication and breaking out of it. Remembering the love is there and proving it.

This reminds of myself, been "engaged" for 9 years, he ends it constantly, yells, cusses me out, & blames it all on me for "making" him "mad." He has 3 kids that visit him & demanded I help pay for them, drive them to activites, cook, & clean, etc. Demanded I pay half the mortgage when talking about moving on, which I refused. He says I "hate" his kids & I deserve this treatment bc im "supposed" to help. He also throughout the 9 yrs would chip away at my friendships, he hated them all (men, women, trans, young, old, Christian, muslim, Buddhist, etc). So now i am left with no friends, a brokem relationship, & heartbroken. Don't do what I did all for the sake of begging to be loved. God bless 🙏

I worked in a Software Engineering environment with some truly smart and humble men. These guys were probably your typical nerdy type during high school and highly shy. A handful of them are still single in their 20s and 30s and probably not the type to seek or chase women. They have probably accepted the fate that they will remain single their entire life. They are NOT the type with personality or mental issues. Probably never had a girlfriend or a date for that matter. But from working with them and talking to them about life in general, they have head on their shoulder and would make a great husband and dad. I would be proud to call these young guys my son in law. Women, I hope you don't judge a guy based on looks and first impressions.....some of these great guys are not easy to find. Where do these women that call into these shows find these losers....

It’s so hard not to keep showing up when you really care for someone but they keep their emotional hooks (as she said) into you and send you mixed messages all the time 😢. Usually it’s because they dislike themselves or are self-destructive. This woman needs to treat herself as good as she was treating him. I’ve begun to and it’s tough distancing myself and grieving what will never be but I know it’s right and I’m slowly gaining confidence 🙂 Women waste so much of our precious time and care on men who have no intention of reciprocating so *don’t do it*. Watch their behaviour, set boundaries and walk away if they refuse to accept them. All the best to this lady moving forward; don’t look for other men to provide your confidence or self-worth, you will only attract losers or worse who detest your weakness but will happily abuse it then leave you more broken than you were before.

Oh my gosh, this one is so close to home. She sounds just like me 23 except 23 years ago before we had smart phones and apps and such. This is exactly what it would have been if it was now only I had no one to check in with and see what was happening. And tell me to run and get myself ungaslit and break the parts of me that were so wounded from childhood that I felll for him so much I'd already built a family in our minds. So I just kept trying to be better and fix everything enough to have him finally love me. the breadcrumbs, gaslighting, emotional abuse, and future faking as well as turning folks against me just kept going til our marriage and child and my health all failed so badly and even twelve years later I'm still picking up the pieces. Hope she gets out and gets healed enough to know her worth and see things clearly.

Her fiancé sounds like he really sucks, but I don’t think it’s doing her any favors to skate past the remarkable emotional immaturity radiating off of her, she is not in a position to be entering into a marriage or motherhood, and painting it as though she’s totally fine and he’s just a bad guy isn’t going to help her avoid the next one.

Agreed. This sounds like she has an anxious attachment style and is suffocating him. So he freaks out, pushes her away to get some breathing room. Then the make up… rinse and repeat. She complains about lack of closeness. He complains about lack of boundaries and personal space. Neither gets what they want because her need for excessive closeness triggers his need for excessive space. Which triggers her need for closeness. Destructive feedback loop. Unless there is serious therapy these two are simply incompatible.

I'm not saying she is a bad person or anything but I think she has some areas to work on too. @@2daFull Not many people are "good" or "bad" that's a very simplistic view. The problem is that no matter who calls in especially the female callers (but male as well) they always take their side. Delony has somewhat addressed this by saying he wishes they had the other side on the phone. No one forced her to say yes to the marriage or for him to ask or for one or both of them to back out. The fact of the matter is that in a society where marriage has been devalued to the point it has and divorce and children out of wedlock has been accepted, marriage is more hassle than it's worth.

In my early twenties, I dated a guy for a few years almost married him. However, during the relationship he wanted to act like a bachelor. He'd talk about long term commitment but he didn't want to put the effort into it by being a grown up with accountability and initiative. He was a few years older yet he liked for us to have a chaperone during various couples' activities. He claimed that he wanted to have children one day but I felt like he didn't want to be a supportive partner if things had transpired. We hardly did activities with my family or friends. He wanted a big, fancy wedding with 300-400 guests. I wanted something way smaller like a courthouse civil ceremony with a reception at a later date. We never discussed what to do for the honeymoon or a budget for the wedding. Thankfully, he didn't get the opportunity to fully purchase a ring for me. So, I have no ties to him except for some pictures that were taken at a time when things were good. Those pictures are hidden away in a box somewhere.

May I ask a serious question? How come the advice for those unmarried & married is different? I ask bcuz if she would have been married she would of been to work it out and create other ways to get to the bottom of things etc but in here it’s very straight cut like “get rid of him” & he isn’t worth it! Lol although I agree I’ve noticed the advice change although the behaviors it the married & unmarried is the same!

I was 12 years old and remember my older sister arguing with her soon to be husband before the church ceremony while we were taking pictures that they could still cancel the wedding if that is what he wants....well......six kids later and a short separation stint... I dont understand people trying to get married these days. We are on the verge of World War 3, Record High Inflation, 37 Trillion in National Debt, Mandatory Student Loan Payments resuming this week, Record High Eviction notes and World Pandemics, etc. How do people ignore all these red flags and tell themselves "This is a great time to start a family"? I would be very curious behind the mindset of those who go through with these major life decisions during these chaotic times. Divorce rates were already 50 percent during good stable times, it will be interesting what the divorce rates will be with all this current chaos. Its looking like World War 3 might be coming down the pipeline.

Despite all that I see more and more teen girls on various forums whose life goals are to be wife and mommies, and never have to work. When I gently remind them husband's die, or aren't well paid, or leave, or get terribly ill, how will YOU support the family? They say I hurt their feelings. SMH parents be real with your kids, life needs every person to stand up, and if later a couple decides a wife or husband takes time off gor early childhood rearing, fine, but have options! Get skills.

The whole cell phone thing just confuses me. If we're driving and hubby gets a text, he asks me to check it and either respond or he'll just say, "I'll text back later." We both know each others codes. I've never "gone through" his texts and im pretty sure he hasn't gone through mine but even if he did, I can't see myself caring and why should I?
