We took 2 of Coach Gu's new Tecnifibre TF40 315's and put weights in different places. Where does he like his lead on his racket? What is the difference?

It's so satisfying to se that they finally started to put the weight in other positions that 3 & 9. Most racquets have more than enough twistweight

Excllent video. Always wondered what placement differences would make.
@jerome_morrow
@jerome_morrow 2 года назад
Unfortunately not. QC variance could mean the difference was more to do with different specs to start with rather than lead placement. The racquets aren’t matched pairs for weight, balance and swingweight.

Very interesting. Oddly, years ago I bought a Prince Triple Threat racquet with the 10 and 2 o'clock weighing and did not play well with it at all due to a lack of stability. My strokes are flat. Perhaps that explains it. I don't have the racquet head speed for that weight distribution to be effective.

Is it better to by a head heavy racquet or head light and add weight? Thanks.

Was there any weight added to the handle or just the hoop?

I bought this frame a couple of weeks ago and even though I think it has a great feeling and comfort I am struggling with two aspects. Firstly, as the racquet is so head light, I am lacking of plow through when accelerating the racquet. I have tried to solve this with lead tape, which has helped, but not completely. I think it is kind of hard coming from a 32cm balance racquet like the head gravity tour. I don´t want to keep adding lead tape until it is like 350gr or more, so it is hard to find a balance (the static weight with one overgrip and strung is 339gr, I don’t wanna go over 344gr) Secondly and most importantly, I have big issues with control. The ball keep springing out of the stringbed, so I am missing a lot of balls, and it produces a sense of insecurity by swinging out. I am an 5.0 player with long strokes, so having the control is key for me to go with my shots. I have been playing with an hybrid of lynx tour with signum pro firestorm at 23kg, but now I will give it a try just with lynx tour at 24kg (I hope this does not take the comfort away). I don´t want to keep increasing the tension, avoiding shoulder and arm pain in general is a big priority. I hope that you can comment on how could I find a solution between these three aspects: increasing SW-more control-keep good comfort levels. Thank you very much.

the difference between 305 and 315 is that the 315 is more headlight bc theres is 10 grams more lead weight inside the handle. Just buy the 305 if you like the better more even balance

lucky for them. i have a hand that can catch basketballs with each hand off of a single bounce...10 1/4 inch thumb to pinky...myth isn't true however.. i have taken some old head graphene instincts at 4 1/2 and added 5 whole size heat-shrink add-ons and one tourna grip on top of that to get a grip...this suits my hands. these are super headlight but weigh in at over 14 ounces and a hybrid multfil/syn gut at 1.38mm at 60 lbs. works great for me. it sucks to have to play around so much to get a racket that feels right.
@LarzB
@LarzB 2 года назад
I only put at 12, 6, the neck, on the upper part of the grip and or behind the butt cap. Depending on what i need. A racket that is too whippy i add lead to the neck and or below the grip closest to the neck. I generally don't like to add weight to 2,3,4, 8,9,10 spots as it increases the twist weight which to me hurts spin potential. It does make the racket feel more solid yes, but at the cost of spin.
@jerome_morrow
@jerome_morrow 2 года назад
Published research by Cross and Lindsey shows that increasing twistweight increases spin potential (as does increasing swingweight).
@LarzB
@LarzB 2 года назад
@@jerome_morrow i know the article. Somehow my experience is different. And the setup they used is a stationary racket and shooting a ball straight at it which already has spin. With my engineering background i know that you can change setups to gain the same effect, but somehow this one i have difficulty believing. A flat ball that you move the racket in a vertical plane to give spin is not the same as a rigid stationary racket which you fire a ball at with spin. But i can be wrong. I have the tennis science book of him and 2 other writers and it has a lot of fantastic information. But i all curious myself again. I will match 2 rackets exactly the same but with different twist weights and try.
@jerome_morrow
@jerome_morrow 2 года назад
@@LarzB I’ll fully agree with that. What a racquet can do in absolute physics terms in a static lab test does not always reflect the real world dynamic situation where we have to swing the racquet a certain way for spin generation. Too much twistweight can impair the supination-pronation sequence of a modern style topspin lag-snap forehand. Same principle behind how more (swing)weight delivers more power provided swing speed is maintained. Cross and Lindsey’s book is an excellent read and goes a long way towards trying to quantify what happens in a tennis shot. Unfortunately, the dynamic nature of tennis means that this type of research is much harder than eg: golf (where all shots start from a static position) which is light years ahead in terms of biomechanics and physics understanding of what happens in a golf swing.

Yes but one of the racquets had a ''huge'' dampener and the other nothing. Shouldn't that count for something towards swingweight and feel?
@jerome_morrow
@jerome_morrow 2 года назад
It’s a cr*p comparison anyway. Even without the dampener, we don’t know the specs for each racquet, and spec variance could have a far greater impact on how each racquet plays than the lead tape position. And we know that both the racquets weren’t spec matched since Harry is rubbish at that, as evidenced by previous videos (“err… err…. that would need a lot of time to work out… err.. errr… not sure we can do anything about that”).

"The weight is coming through the throat" *Glance at massive (I'm guessing 6 grams worth of) dampener* I wonder why... Considering how easy it is to switch out lead tape, why not test on the same racquet? Or do a before after lead tape comparison?
@taytay8732
@taytay8732 2 года назад
They prob swapped it out as they switched racquets since they both tried them out. Gu likes a dampener while Harry doesn't

anyone can suggest me where to put lead on my blade v8 1619?
@Mr.StarGazer1
@Mr.StarGazer1 2 года назад
It really depends on what you want from it to make. If you want more swingweight and make it better for heavy strokes than i suggest putting it on 12. If you want to just make it heavier and not changing the balance of it than you should put it on the throat
@JW-bw8nj
@JW-bw8nj 2 года назад
Nobody on the internet can tell you where you need to put lead tape without first knowing what you're looking to change about the frames and watching you hit with lead in different places

dont u have to counter balance and put some weight on the cap? ur making the raquet head heavy and messing its balance.

@jerome_morrow
@jerome_morrow 2 года назад
This is the only tennis channel where you’ll constantly hear of lead tape being applied by number of grommets rather than specific weight. 😵‍💫 This sort of comparison is pointless unless both racquets have the same specs. You have to limit the variable to lead tape position only for this type of testing to reach valid conclusions. So, any chance you’ll have another video where you show us how you subsequently customised Coach Gu’s new sticks to matching specs (weight, balance and swingweight)?
@JW-bw8nj
@JW-bw8nj 2 года назад
Exactly. I have three rackets of the same model that have all been matched in weight, balance and swing weight. The heaviest one has no lead, the one in the middle has a little bit of lead both under the grip and at 3 and 9 while the lightest one has a lot more lead. Before you start slapping lead tape in predetermined areas over a certain number of grommets, you need to know what your starting specs are of EACH particular frame.

I suppose we shouldn’t expect too much from Tennis Spin. Scientific method is not the way things are done around here! Trouble is, Harry has no insight, speaks with authority and the fanboys lap it up like gospel.
