Haha love that you blamed Jo. You did a great job in getting the tractor out. I’m sure anyone would have got stuck in that mud. Your family are adorable and love the fact that they are rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck in. Everyone seems to be loving it which is great to see.🚜🚜🚜🚜

Put mine in a ditch yesterday, with the new mower on the back - had to climb out of the 45 degree cab :) Through some miracle of clever driving and front loader manipulation I managed to drive it out but only after being shouted at by my dad, who at 88 still seems to think he knows it all :D

I’m loving watching your adventures and wasn’t shouting at the screen. A little bit of me felt sorry for Jo getting stuck, a bit of me sympathised with you getting it out as I have had to get a car out of mud twice over the years. I was thinking, a winch would be handy. Good luck with the pigs and keep up the great work. Loving it.

I keep saying this but this so takes me back to my childhood. Even the part about getting the tractor stuck, except it was my brother not my mom. We had to get the next farm tractor to pull it out. Again good luck with your endeavours. Love the kids helping out around the farm.

Proper ag tires would make a big difference over those industrial style tire. Particularly if can run lower pressures. The other thing to note though often times you have no choice is that tractor tires have a good bit more traction when the you are going forwards, they are designed this way for pulling and plowing purposes. You sometimes see machines with the tires reverses so that the treads look wrong but are done deliberately so as to help when reversing out of situations like this.

Thank you for your really useful content, this has come at a a time when we have been renovating a cottage too. One question please what acreage of land are you using the solis on please, we have 8 acres and wondering if it should be the 26 or the 50. Many thanks.
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 8 дней назад
We have had the 26 and 50 on loan. 50 certainly more suited to our 20 acres but the 26 did well for its size. It struggled a bit with a 5ft flail. We had ended up buying an old Massey 135 and it does all we need and will hold its value. We don’t use a loader on it as we have another machine for using forks. The 26 would manage but all depends on how much hp you need for implements.

When it comes to the piggies. Give them loads of straw so they can root in it and they'll bury themselves in it. Some old mooring bouys would be useful for them to occupy themselves with. The trouble is they get food on a plate so they are redirecting their foraging behaviour into fighting. Basically they are bored. In nature they'd be foraging or sleeping. Less time and energy for fighting. Cows love a scratching brush. Maybe you could bolt some tough broom heads to the wall, I bet the pigs would love it too. As for the tractor. You got it out so that worked. Only thought I had was many more boards layed across the wheel tracks rather than along it.

The mower on the rears not doing you any favours here tim. You’ll find if it runs aground you’ll loose traction on the rear. Also running a lower psi in the tyres would help somewhat too 👍

I'm loving these videos - especially the ones involving the tractor. We're in the throws of moving to the country but with a much smaller plot. I'm in need of something to keep the meadow under control and to maintain the small bit of woodland so that we can feed the log burners in the house. You've certainly shown the grab to be pretty useful! While we wait to exchange contracts (taking forever!) I've been round and round in circles looking at new, old, refurbished, decrepit, you name it, and I keep coming back toward the Solis 26. It looks like it's doing a good job for you. If I can get past the financial outlay (man maths may be required here), it looks like a good candidate. Are you pleased with it?
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 2 года назад
While we don’t have much to compare it to other than a few times using vintage tractors it certainly gets the job done. I think the 26 is really well suited to paddock/small holding plus other yard tasks. Perhaps too small if we were to do much work on the fields here but the compact size is actually a big plus for getting in and around the buildings and tracks here. If you get chance to chat with Blacktrac who supplied ours they have a big showroom and all the knowledge to go through side by side comparison. I’m still on the hunt for an old tractor one day but can’t say it will be as versatile or reliable as the Solis. 😂

@@TheRestorationCouple Thank you for such a quick and comprehensive reply. What we hope to buy is a little over two acres, with a bit of woodland in one corner and river frontage along one side. As is the case with the housing market, we haven't had much time there and really need to properly assess things when we move in. Blacktrac are certainly up at the top of my list. I could kick myself, we had the chance to buy the current owners old tractor but I procrastinated for too long and he sold it!

Haha there is the disadvantage to industrial tires! They don’t shed the mud like agricultural ones, thats the only real difference on mud. Once you get slick tires you’re stuck… that said industrial tires where definitely the right choice, i wouldn’t imagine this should happen too often. Our kubota is on Industrials and pulled the shoot trailer all through the muddy season without getting stuck. Great video though, i always love to see the progress! Also i noticed on the flail that you have the top link on the solid hole, when if you have it on the slit it will ‘hug’ the ground a but more, and wont leave any marks. Also are you going to LAMMA?
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 2 года назад
Yeah, the tyres are great for pretty much everything here. Almost no damage and compaction when on grass and always seem to have enough grip, especially as we are only ever on grass. I'll take a look at the top link, hadn't spotted that. May make it to LAMMA, keep getting random invites from manufacturers we have never heard of since the farm videos started! 😂
