Make the water holding dams round all plants slightly bigger and mulch thickly so the roots stay cool, the mulch will also keep the roots moist for longer. Pine needles make a very good mulch if you can get hold of it.

Great to see the wonderful progress each week on your massive renovation project. Admire the 'work ethic' and persistence you have. Know that what you are doing is much, much more difficult than a video portrays. Always look forward to your videos.

Hi. Nice work. About filling in th gaps between the stones: i saw a guy who had some sort of pump mashine to fill the gaps. Look it up, it might save you a bunch of work.

Thanks. They only work on coursed joints to a certain extent. They are hopeless on random rubble stone - we have tried in the past

Everything looking so good! Sharon, I may be wrong but I think it’s the other way round with your lemon grafting. The pip-grown one should be the root-stock & the one with the new growth is the grafting stock. Although you may want to check that new growth isn’t coming from below any graft, if it is a grafted tree.
@FincaLife
@FincaLife 3 месяца назад
That's correct. Sorry for the confusion and yes, we are going to graft a branch from the producing lemon onto the rootstock of the pip. It just needs to get a bit bigger :). The producing lemon is growing and budding above the graft.

We don't know - it's what they do, same reason probably that there are random stones on every roof.

Hi! The walls are starting to look really nice. You have grafting the wrong way round though. You graft known varieties onto the roots (rootstock). If you graft a twig (scion) from your "pip tree" onto your special little -10C lemon tree the special -10C special tree will end up with one branch that is a random variety that may not ever fruit. Also the little -10 tree is tiny! It needs to establish itsellf. More generally, I think you underestimate the amount of water baby trees need to get them started. Almost all you trees look like they could do with an extra bucket of water (or several) every week, Sad to say it, I think your pear tree is probably dead. The pears are already breaking bud and look about to flower on my North London allotment. Except the (now) dead one I bought from a specialist nursery the winter before last. 😡 Remember that the trees have to reach their roots down a long way to find the water from your sceptic tank. Before that they'll need lots of water to keep them going The plum tree looks better though. All new trees need lots of water wherever they are, even in rainy north London! Also, on melons, there are quite complicated instructions about how to prune them so you get fruit rather than lots and lots of vines and leaves. This is for the UK but you get the idea! www.allotment-garden.org/fruit/melons-growing/ Complicated! 😱 Generally speaking, all your fruit and veg will need far more water than you think to do well given how hot and dry it is where you are. Good luck!

Thanks and yes you are correct with the graft - it wasn't explained very well :) We have said in earlier videos that we are only really growing what naturally grows well here - we don't have a great deal of time to dedicate to the garden at the moment. What we are currently growing, is all doing well. Thanks again for the tips.
