Thanks... I was such a bundle of emotions that night. I was ready to go, but I also knew how many things could (and eventually did) go wrong. At some point though, you have to say "I've done enough" and slip the lines. I wonder if that's how I'll feel when I head out after the conversion is done.
So, that is the Matt that got me a trip through the entire length of the Erie Canal (long strange, but overall good, story that Madison knows well 🙂). Also, I'll be interested in seeing the application of the lettering to the back of the boat next episode 🙂 .
Nice preparations :). As far as I know, compasses, manometers etc. instruments sometimes had oil fill to increase reliability if they were designed for use in wet environments. Duct tape, in addition to hot glue and zip ties, is one of THE things that keep the world together :D Seeing Susan wearing an Against Me! tee... It fills me with determination. Girls like us stick together, right? :).

Spoiler; I ordered the first motor and controller a couple days ago, both water-cooled. If I specced things properly, the controller will run at full power without cooling, but with cooling, things should last longer and the motor shouldn't de-rate.
Compass contains mineral oil. There should be a plug on bottom to add oil. There should be no bubble on top or only a small 1/4" dia bubble. Original one should be getter quality than the one you bought and hope you refurbish old one. If it was off in its direction reading, probably the adjusting magnets need some "adjusting" or maybe some ferrous metal/ magnetic attracting metal nearby (binnacle stanchions not good SS?- as in a magnet will attach to them?)
The old one was sticking, so we'd be drifting off course but the compass would still be showing the desired heading. That's why it was decided that it had to be changed before we left. I wanted to refurbish the old one originally, but after it came apart, Sue asked if she could have a couple parts (same on her boat) so I gave them to her and binned the rest. I've not done any research into what compass I want long term yet.
I have never seen a compass do that before. I have had the rubber bellows at the bottom of the compass ...melt? Danforth is a great company, I shipped my compass to them and received my compass back refurbished for ~$40.00

@@TheDigitalMermaid It's what us kiwis (not sure if it's international jargon or not) call the trucks that you can pull the plasticy canvas curtains you can pull aside from the box compartment to load or unload pallets etc with a forklift. The idea being when I'm in the city I look like any other delivery truck. Then when I'm somewhere nice I can open the curtains and behold the scenery :)

@@TheDigitalMermaid Of course! That's the whole point to not be tied down to one apartment in one city. I've never been north of Auckland before. I was born in the lower South Island and would like to visit places like Milford Sound, (more like Fiordland National Park in general) Queenstown is beautiful but very expensive to visit. Maybe see how close to Mount Cook I can get.
I see there will be a lot of work waiting for you when you re-wire all the s**t that is on board now. Make and write things down when you start to work. You have an original wire diagram for that boat? No? Oh Jesus i cross the fingers for you. Girl i wish you where her with the boat and would help you. But we both to far away from each other.
