Our goal is to build the RMAX to take on the most difficult rock crawling trails such as the Rubicon Trail, Fordyce, Dusy Ershim and more. Many of these trails are remote and take multiple days with camping along the way. We needed to increase the durability of the Yamaha Wolverine RMAX Side by Side to take on the challenges!
Here’s the upgrade parts list:
Warn Winch 100970 - Synthetic Rope Kit
Warn Winch 103950 - Wireless Phone Controller
Ryco Road Legal Kit Signals + Horn - 2105
Trail Armor Full Skids
Xprite Side Mirrors w/ LED Lights (Amazon)
Speedometer Calibrator V4 Kit (SH-V4) + Wiring Harness (SH-H05)
JOES Bump Stop Shims .250 on 5/8” Shaft
Weller Racing HD Tie Rod Kit
Weller Racing Air Injection Block Off Plate
Weller Racing Power Vision by DynoJet w/ Tunes
RotoPax 2 Gallon Water + Fuel Jugs
Heat Shield + Sound Deading Mats
Method 15x7 MR409 Wheels - Beadgrip Tech
Milestar Patagonia SXT 34x10R15 Tires
Bandit Tender Springs
PRP Limit Straps 23” + 24” Hardware (ODL-217461 + ODL-217451)
Rhino 2.0 Front CV Axles
Rhino 2.0 Rear CV Axles
SuperATV Rear High Clearance A-Arms
SuperATV Front High Clearance 1.5” Forward Offset A-Arms
SuperATV HD 4340 Ball Joints
Yamaha OEM Glass Rear Window - B4M-K750A-V0-00
Yamaha OEM Glass Windshield - B4J-F83J0-T0-00
Yamaha OEM Soft Side Doors - B4M-F17B0-V0-00
In total we’ve spent nearly $15,000 in maintenance and upgrades! Insane! Time to go play with it.

It's insane how fast this stuff adds up!!!!! Now you need to build a teardrop to pull and a kayak rack.......lol. maybe a rear winch mount? Do you have plans for clutching or help with the big ol tires? Looks like it works pretty good!!! Good job as always I always dig your builds alot of thought put into them and lots of planing.....I try to do the same

So true! Haha... no more!! We should have what we need. We added a shim to the clutch for around 20% low reduction. I'd love a lower crawl ratio but these SxS aren't really setup for extreme slow (sadly).

Been missing you guys...thought maybe you bailed! Groovy little toy you got there. Probably gets a hell of a lot better gas milage that the rig, eh?...I've got a big popup on a Super Duty myself and am getting ready for a 6 week road trip from Denver to the northwest and back...gonna burn up a lot of cash!!! I'm gonna avoid California at all cost, though. Have any trouble acquiring parts for this thing?...I'm looking to buy the Honda 300 (dual sport bike) to haul on my road trips and the "supply issues" means a wait of months. Kinda funny...you're taking a "camping rig" along with your "camping rig".
@TruckCamper
@TruckCamper 2 года назад
Yes! We are back at it. Been busy on projects and good to be traveling again. Fuel cost is a bit nuts! Sadly the SxS is similar in MPG to the Super Duty but really fun. Parts have been a real challenge. Wait for 4+ months on various ones. Bla. It is strange traveling with the trailer but doing more base camp style and adventures out. Your trip sounds like fun!

@@TruckCamper Yeah...I'll be all over northern Nevada, into Idaho, Oregon...maybe Montana. I wish I had that bike for this one! 6 weeks...more camping, less driving but I reckon to still cook up about two thousand dollars in gas. Twice as much as it would "normally" be for a trip like this. Stinking politicians are out of their minds...rotten bastards. They fly all over the world with no concern about it at all...in fact, WE'RE paying for it! It's like friggin' Caligula, man! Hopefully America will come to it's senses and we'll get some reasonable people in there. Tough times don't last, tough people do...but those that are living on more meager means are getting their asses kicked real good. I'm 59 years old...I've never seen anything like this.
@TruckCamper
@TruckCamper 2 года назад
@@byronlemay2166 That will be a blast!! Still totally worth the gas bill for an adventure like that. But sure would be nice to see the oil policies change. Having large fuel tank can help with selective refueling stops. Glad you're still going for it!

If you travel on US Forest Service land your gas Rotopax has to be positioned over the edge of the vehicle so it can’t drip anywhere on the vehicle. That way it can’t run across the bed onto anything hot and start a fire. Not a bad idea even if your not on USFS land.
@TruckCamper
@TruckCamper Год назад
Interesting. Haven't heard of that before. Thankfully, we haven't needed to carry extra fuel... even on our overnight trips! We've been carrying 2 water Rotopax. Travel range is good enough for our overnight type rock crawling trips. I'll need to check into that rule. Do you have any link to details?

Thank you for all your great ideas on your RMAX modifications. I've copied a few things. What type of jack to you have? I know you have it stored in the Bashplate. I would like to run the same setup. Any help you can provide me on what type of jacks to consider in the event of having to change a spare tire would be very helpful. Thanks, Curt

Do you have any videos riding Trail 39 at Windrock or any of the "Most Difficult" trails at Hatfield McCoy? If i could enable my '24 Rmax2 LE to be able to follow my X3 without pulling winch cable all day I'd be really happy.

We haven’t been out there yet!! Although we have traveled some of the most difficult trails in the Western States including Fordyce Trail in the Sierra Nevadas CA. We may share a video of the RMAX on the trail... RMAX is a capable machine especially modified like ours on 34-35" tires.

Ouch.. $40k in a rmax.. probably should have started with a different unit.. but I guess they are all junk.. Wouldn't a Jeep be more useful and much better made? for the same price..
@TruckCamper
@TruckCamper Год назад
Yeah... all SxS need upgrades. Only difference is initial start price. We have considered a Jeep and may build one. But then you're talking $45k plus build cost and it's easy to spend $30-100k on a Jeep. Really sky is the limit! 4x4 is really $x$. Haha

We took a leaf spring shim and installed it between the frame and steering rack. Essentially spacing the bottom of the rack out nearly. 5" and only slightly at the top. Needed longer bolts. Works great!

How are you liking those tires
@TruckCamper
@TruckCamper 2 года назад
Well they look "unimpressive" but they perform brilliantly. Plus they are DOT rated. They are crowned type tire and less aggressive tread but hook up well in the rocks and trails. Probably due to the increase in biting edges. Check out our videos to see how they perform. We might do a video review after more trail adventures too...

Those tires are way too big for that vehicle. You cannot make back your lost gearing with just a shim. You lose 4% of your gearing per inch of increased tire size. 34.5-30"= 4.5. 4.5x4%= 18% gearing loss, not including the extra weight of the tire. You are not getting back 18% of your gearing from a 1mm shim. You are going to need a machined sheave and portals to even come close to getting your power back. Even 32" tires severely increase your belt and sheave wear, as well as all of the internal components. It doesn't matter that you put stronger tie rods on, you will explode your rack and pinion next. I know from experience. - UTVEngineering.
