Really, really good! Can't say anything else, you guys captured the spirit of this song! Allan would be proud! Damn, the guitar player is almost on par with Allan IMHO, albeit a bit more consonant.
Excatly. I think the reason why so many people use the grungy metal sound while playing Holdsworth tunes is due to the fact that they make too many mistakes while playing his songs. His songs are way too hard to play so the grungy sound really helps in them not being able to skillfully imitate the song. They usually make Holdsworth tunes sound more rock/metal oriented than the jazz fusion Holdsworth does. The "metalized" aspect helps make the song easier for them to play. Major props to this guy
"We *tried* to play funnels..." at least they're humble about it. One thing they have in common with the master. It really wasn't that bad. I don't see anything wrong with covering challenging music even if it's not quite up to par with the original. It helps widen the audience.
Awesome Cover, One of my favourite Songs By the Legend that is Allan. If anyone gets a chance, please check out my version of House of Mirrors by Holdsworth. cheers, Ben
After so many years and hundreds of videos available for learning Allan's technique, this proves nothing. It's much more amazing if you can build your *own* complex style just like AH did. I believe tremendous effort is was exerted to come up with this cover. It's not too easy just *trying* to replicate AH. To become original, maybe try combining Allan Holdsworth + John Williams + You. Create a classical electric jazz guitar (mixed nylon & metal strings) and play it with finger picking *only*. Try playing 5 to 6 notes per string. Try skipping not just 1 or 2 strings, but 3. Doing it all across the fret board without looking at your guitar during a performance.
Well if it's any consolation, at least they put "we tried" in the title. I agree though. Having your own voice is paramount. Not to say that this guy can't play or nothing, it's just boring to hear an Allan clone.
