I more than highly recommend Goodyear G114 (H-rated and 16-ply). They are a step up for the Goodyear Endurance tire when you have a larger 3 axle 5th wheel. We love ours! Also, we swapped out the 4 aluminum wheels on our F-350 Lariat FX4 for steel wheels so that the fronts can be properly rotated with all the rest of the tires. Ask any tire specialist. We did swap out our Michelins for Firestone Destinations as some RV parks are on sand/gravel roads. Needed better traction.
I will look into those tires for the trailer! We know all about getting the tires rotate the correct way! That is why we went through discount tire, Since we have aluminum rims they have to break down the tires and move tires to new rims! Doing all of that still didn't bring us any more life out of the truck tires! 45K is about all we will get out of a set!
Oh man, you're going to spend a fortune on tires 😮. I bought my full sized raised roof GMC conversion van new in Dec 2011. It's got 38,000 miles on it but I'm on my 3rd set of tires! The walls of them dry rot so fast 😡. But it sits in full sun & people say to use RV tire covers to prevent it but I just haven't. Mine are 20 inch tires & last time they cost 1400.00 to replace them. So good to see the family back together. Phil cracked me up 😄.
Yes between the RV and the truck it will 14 tires I have to get! The wheel covers can be great especially if you aren't moving often to help protect them from the sun! Phil will be in the next several videos!
We went with Continental HTL2 Eco Plus on our 5th wheel and have been very happy with them. They are $500 a piece but we are full time and tires are not something I want to worry about. I found out about them from a buddy that works at a commercial truck tire shop and said they are the best.
Conti Hybird HD3 G rated commercial 225/70/19.5 on 2020 F450. At 65,000 miles still going strong. I do rotate the front side to side every 5000 miles, but do not rotate the rears. I know this tire package does not pertain to your vehicle but you ask what I use. 🤪🤪
@@skoffco It's aligned perfectly! They were just rotated and that tire you saw didn't come from the front! It has to do with them being on the front, but it's how they rotated them! I didn't do a good job of tracking where the tires were moved to! So now it seems I have two tires thay spent alot of time on the front, two that saw the front once and two that never saw the front!
Keep the Michelin tires. The alignment is off on the truck. Looks like some uneven wear. The rear looks like there may be an inflation challenge there.
Tires just got rotated what you are seeing is not where any of those tires came from! It has to do with being on the front, but not anything with the alignment! More about the fact they weren't rotated the way I thought they were and now I have a story of 3 sets of tires on my truck! 2 that have been on the front alot, 2 that have seen the front once and two that never saw the front! I will explain it better when I get tires, but I don't think they were being rotated the way I thought, and its my fault because I didn't keep track of where they were being moved to!
Kentucky is a pretty state. Our lab that just passed did not like getting wet much either he sat on the bank and watched the other dogs swim, avoided puddles and disliked baths. But he loved to roll in snow. He always loved the first snow. Kids looked cute in their costumes.
Kevin my friend had the same wet bay problem. He took a lot of in depth pictures then he took completely apart and made it to where there weren’t as many t lines. He got high quality parts from Home Depot. The wood around the bottom he put rubber on the bottom so the wood would be safe plus he put Thompson water seal. Hope the helps you.
I run the Carlisle CSL 16 14 ply G rated. So smooth and actually gain 1 to 1.5 mpg after install. All steel radial not just belted. Very happy and rated to 81 mph which I never run that fast.
Tires. I love the firestone transforce .. use on lot of gov vehicles ambulances, fire trucks etc. which don’t pull like you do. I get many yrs off on them and pulling my heavy equipment.. does well..
I was out looking at my RV and it dawned on me I have a set of heavy duty caster wheels mounted on a bracket that's mounted to the frame of my RV on the rear end and they hit the ground and roll instead of the trailer bottoming out maybe a investment to look into
A little shout out to the. Kids Great Job on the costumes. 👍👍😃. That was awesome. Your all living the truest and most amazing life ever. It just doesn't get any better than that. Thank you for sharing, made my day. 👊😉
So happy for the surprise!!! Kevin I love how you make all of the maintenance look so easy. And very proud of the way you take charge and do it all. You have such a wonderful family!
Thank you so much! It is just part of what it takes to make this life work! Honestly the hard part is remembering to make my self film what I am doing!
Kevin, we had the Kleen Tank guy come out and clean our tanks and I must say, as good as I thought we were doing, there was still crap in the black tank.😊 it was pretty interesting to see the process and I won’t be using HC anymore. The Calgon pearls is what we were told to use along with Pine Sol and supposedly it makes the tank walls plus keep the smells down. We shall see.
I'll be interested to see the outcome. It was actually the toilet paper that seemed to be the issue. Using a back flush should help that going forward.@@PavingNewPaths
That was awesome and such a nice park. I'm running the Michelin XDS tires now as my F450 is my daily driver as well as hauler for multiple trailers in varying conditions including snow. They have some road noise more so than the others but on our fleet 550 and 5500 trucks we are getting 65 thousand miles on them.
On our truck, we were running Firestone Transforce HT2. First set 75000 miles, rotated every 6 months. Second set 70000 miles, same rotation schedule. We couldn't find them after a we couldn't wait 2 weeks for them to come in. We went with Goodyear Wranglers, I guess we can only hope they perform as well.
Hey Kevin, regarding the tires for both your truck and the toy hauler.....you're running a pretty decent tire on the truck right now but if you switch, I'd recommend Bridgestone Dueler's, Goodyear Wrangler, Continental Terrain, or the Cooper Discoverer if you want to retain a nice ride. I have used all of these at one time or another on my trucks and I currently have the Cooper Discoverer's on my Super Duty now. I don't tow nearly as much as you do but so far, I am on around 20k with them and they still look like new. For your toy hauler, might I suggest the Sailun S637 or the Hercules H901. These are both a 14 ply, G rated tire and they hail very good reviews. The GY Endurances are only a 10-ply tire but they are the only trailer tires made in the US. I currently have the GY Endurances on our 5th wheel and although I have been fairly pleased with them, I am seriously flirting with going with the Hercules come springtime. The weight and additional ply ratings on them are what's doing it for me. Safe travels!!!
I do like the Michelins, just wanted to know if there was a tire that would get more life! I almost went with the Sailun tires when we first got it! We decided to wait and 3 years later the original Westlakes are still doing their job! It's a toss up, because they did perform just fine, but I have heard nothing but good things from the Sailuns!
For your trailer tires I recommend either the Hankook TH31 or the Cooper road masters. I pull a big gooseneck cattle trailer every day for a living and I run the Hankook 215/75/17.5’s, I have been running these tires for years now except when for some reason I’m not able to get them because of a supply issue. These tires in my opinion are the best bang for the buck. You could run the Mitchelin tires on your trailer but they are like $550 a piece. I just bought a brand new Momentum 395ms and it came with road masters which I was very happy to see.
I want to do that, but I would have to get new rims to run them! Right now I have 16's on it, I have thought about trying to find a set of the rims they are selling on the new Momentums and making the swap to the 17.5!
The 19.5” wheels on the F450 limit replacement choices. I had to replace the fronts at 35,000 (Conti Hybrid’s) but the rears still have plenty of life at 75,000. I put Centramatic balancers on, and fronts are wearing much more evenly. Less feathering, no cupping. I only rotate fronts, never rears. Has to be tires off because of the Alcoa wheels…
@@PavingNewPaths The way the rears are not wearing is crazy. Probably can get another 75k out of them unless they get blown out. Figured rotating would give me 6 tires with funky wear and require new ones sooner. I’ll replace fronts as needed. 2 at a time is less of a bite! These 19.5’s are very expensive…
As for your trailer tires, I strongly recommend Transeagle ST tires. I have had West Lake and Goodyear Endurance and Rainer in the past. Switched to these Transeagle on the advise of Craig's Tire in Rockport Texas and really love these tires. We are running 16 ply, which is a little overkill for our trailer but these ride and handle fantastic. Handling is far superior to the Goodyear Endurance. I have been amazed how smooth the trailer rides even with the higher tire pressure. (110 psi). Have forgotten a glass of water in a glass topped coffee table a couple times, and even towing down US 10 through Texas it never spilled any water. Also these tires run cooler than all other tires in the hot summer heat and as you know, heat is one of the worst things for tires.
You need an alignment and maybe some front-end parts. Your tire is wearing badly. Could be something like a wheel bearing going bad or ball joint. It sounds like milage wise your in that time those parts wear out, especially hauling heavy loads like your home.
It has nothing to do with anything on the front end, tires were just rotated, and that tire is not from that position! It has to do with how tires wear when you tow, and my tires were not being rotated like I thought they were on this set! I will explain more when I change tires, but I have 3 different pairs of tires on my truck! Ones that have been on the front more than once, ones that have been on the front only once and a pair that never made it to the front! I don't think they were rotating them like I thought, and it appears they did a lot of side-to-side swapping and that's why the wear is so bad on some and not so bad on others!
is that phil (at the end)? as in "phil's chairs" and many other mentions? i love that you played him saying his lines correctly, and LATER showed the number of "takes". by presenting it this way, i can understand the huge amount of cheering when he did it perfectly!!! love the outtakes!!! and he shouldn't feel bad at all - he did great. it is very hard to perform in front of a camera. y'all are accustomed to it, but most people are not. thanks for another great video!!
Phil did awesome! We thought it would be funny to share what it really takes sometimes to make these videos! Often times the outtakes are funnier than what ever it was we are trying to say!
Did you find anything abnormal about the front passenger tire wear? I would be a little worried about suspension issues if you see that abnormal on the same tire in the future. Love the videos and keep up the good work.
No because the tires were just rotated and that tire is not from that location! The wear is from being on the front and towing, but has to do with how they were rotated! I will explain more about my thoughts on my tires and the wear when I get new tires put on!
Like you we ran the Westlake g rated tires on our grand design solitude for 5 years with no issues. When I replaced them the weatlakes were not available so I went with the Carlisle CSL 16 G rated tires. I have been running them now for two years and have been very happy with them so far. Now I need to change our our truck Michelin Highway tires. I like the Michelin tires but will be interested to see what you get.
So far the Westlakes did exactly what they were suppose to do! Lasted 3 years and 30k miles! But as far as the trucks tires go, I love the michelins but can't get more than 45k out of a set!
I run Firestone transforce ht2 on the truck and usually get 50k . For the trailer I recommend Hercules h901st tires. They are commercial grade and will give you a longer life
We get 45-48 out of the michelins on the truck! The trailer tires have more life in them but need to be changed due to just uv damage, we got 3 years 30k out of them, but are starting to show side wall cracking!
We were allowed to fish on some of the rigs we were on in the Gulf of Mexico! We would catch and clean 200lb tunas, and the cooks would either cook it for the entire rig or they would seal it up and freeze it for you until it was time for you to go home!
I really enjoy watching your videos. You are absolutely right, Kentucky is absolutely beautiful. We lived in Kentucky for five years, before moving back “home” to Ocala, Fl. Thank you again for taking us along on your travels.
@@PavingNewPaths - I have to agree with you. Ocala is building so fast, they are running so many farms out. I’ve been in Ocala over 40+ years (other than the five years in Kentucky not long ago) and to see the horse farms disappear is very disheartening.
We were in Ky about a week sooner than y’all and we loved it. We stayed at White Acres campground in Bardstown and drove all over for the Bourbon Trail. It is a beautiful state and if we didn’t love the coast so much, I could see us moving there. Another good video.
Just wanted to take a minute to say I've been watching rv travel videos for years and I've never felt that I wanted to drop a line until after watching several of yours. Y'all have been in our area lately (Cincinnati), and your still in the region. We're headed out next week for your neck of the woods (south Texas). Yup, winter Texans! Keep up the great videos & keep creating those priceless memories & experiences! Safe Travels!
Thank you so much! We are glad you enjoyed the videos and keep coming back! We really appreciate it! We too will be in Texas soon, not doing winter up here that's for sure!
I’ve been using the Calgon/pine sole treatment also but I use the Lavender Calgon Bath Beads and the Lavender Pinesole. Try that next time- Smells great.
Love your videos. As for the Pine Sol and Calgon, you need Calgon beads not laundry detergent. Search Changing Lanes for when they had their tanks cleaned. My Ahara came with 17.5" H rated coopers. I only have about 120 miles on them but will let you if I have any issues with them. Safe travels!
We didn't know there was a difference, we are using calgon water softner, which is the same thing as the borax we normally use! So far it seems to be working the same as the Bio Geo method! We have looked into changing to 17.5 inch rims and tires combo so we can get the 16 ply coopers!
OMG we laughed so hard at the ending of this video just like you were…. And gave Phil a huge applause at the end!!! We too are getting ready to buy new RV tires, We have the original Saluin tires and they to are about 5 years old. Not sure what we will get we will be watching to see what people are suggesting to you. Also on your water system Rich said he would do a manifold system just before you said that was your idea 👍👍 Sounds like a good plan. Enjoy your family time❤
You are going to love the next several videos as Phil will be the main attraction! We are working out the details of what a manifold system will look like!
I don't know who had it worst, Buddy or Phil.lol. Also try using the water senors that you can place in your wet bay until you can redo the water lines. That way you don't have to continue checking for leaks.
Hmm, if you have had good luck with the tires on your camper, I would stick with them. I run the Goodyear on the 5th wheel. I run BF Goodrich on the truck, good so far. I run Michelin on our car and am very happy with them, I would stick with them on the truck. I am concerned that your alinement might be off based on the tire wear your getting or your using the wrong air pressure in the Passenger side. Just my .002 worth. Whatever you do, it will be painful!
If the tires were not rotated I would agree with you! But they just got move and the tire you saw didn't come from the front! It has to do with them being on the front, but more about how I don't think my tires were rotated correctly! I have 2 that have been on the front a lot, 2 that saw the front once and 2 that look like they never saw the front! So my theory is my tires weren't rotated like I thought they were, and I didn't do a good job of keeping track of where each tire had been! I will explain more when I get new tires!
Yeah, well I was pointing out that if you had not rotated that that might cause the problem. I suspected you did, but maybe more of an alinement problem. I know you stay on top of maintenance because that IS your home. Have a good one.@@PavingNewPaths
Nice to see the family. Glad you enjoyed KY. I hope you got to explore the Bowling Green/ Mammoth Cave area and West KY/ KY Lake areas. They are different from the Lexington/Eastern KY area.
I changed my brass fittings joining the pecks tube together on my RV on all the lines in the trailer and yes they broke out in twos lmao the mess back there can be neatened up a bit I also installed line heaters on all my water lines
I am going to try and make this way better than the factory job they did! Wont take much, but hopefully when I am done it will be a much better and neater solution than what they hid behind a wall!
If you need help or got ??? Hit me up I did AAA and good Sam roadside assistance well as holiday rambler for years and I'm currently living in a 08 king of the road royallite 32 ft 5th wheel myself and I love your saying that when stuff breaks it's always in 2's lmao 🤣😅😅😅
I have done a few years of winter camping and dealing with the freezing weather in the white mountains in New Hampshire and keeping the water going has been quite the mission lol I'm excited to be down south in Virginia for this winter so far been Alot better start to freeze your butt season
@@moosemudding We are still pretty far north now and winter keeps trying yo show up! We have a few more weeks before Texas but hopefully we get there without seeing any real winter weather!
I was actually considering going with those Michelins you have when my factory tires wear out so Im interested in the performance since you do a lot of towing. I've also read in forums that the BFG AT TA KO2 are pretty good if you need winter traction (🙋) and they have a 50,000 mile warranty which seems decent for an HD truck tire. Hopefully I have some time to research. We went to GY Endurance on the RV because we had tread separation on one tire our first trip from the dealer. Seems like its all about heat dissipation. More plies and lower speed rating, or less plies and high speed rating. Just depends where you want the contingency factor. If I were full-timing I'd go up to 19.5" wheels with Cooper Work Series G-rated tires like some semi's have (RHT2). Overkill maybe, but I bet they'd last!
We are on our 2nd set and with the way we travel we only get around 45k miles out of a 60k mile tire! As far as the RV we already have 14 ply steel tires so what ever we go with will be comparable!
Here in Phx,az if we have cleaning questions or problems we go to The Queen of Clean. It seems she's on channel 3 every two weeks with your answers. She's been on tv for the last 45yrs and a web site. Hope she can help
I use the same method but it’s supposed to be the bath calgon powder not the laundry calgon, I made the same mistake! It’s worked well for us too! Look into Boar 19.5” wheels and Michelin Agilis HDZ tires.
I have thought about going to the new rims the momentums come with and then getting the 16 ply 17 inch tires for it! But that is a very expensive tire change!
When we bought our RV it came with the dreaded Castle Rock tires. We swapped them out before hitting the road. We went with Samson tires, they are G rated 14 ply. So far, so good we have around 3k miles. Truck is still new and it came with Michelin tires. However, I’ve heard good things about the Falken tires.
We made it 3 years with the Westlakes everyone says we should change! They are G rated 14 ply, and they did their job! But if there is something better I can replace it with I am all for it! The Michelins have been great they just don't get much life out of them!
I would LOVE a manifold system and I hope you do a video with an answer to your question. The difficulty I see is having to redo ALL the plumbing because each fixture will require its own hot and cold lines going to the manifold. I have a toy hauler so with 3 sinks, a shower, outside shower, washer/dryer and 2 toilets I would have to figure out how to run 14 lines through the rig to the wet bay. Can't even imagine how much of the rig I would have to tear apart to do it.
I am going to figure it out, or at least crosd a bridge that will lead me to figuring it out! everything upfront is easy, but we have 3 water fixtures that are in the RV That will require a lot of work and some serious thought!
I have not used any treatment in my tank for about a year and no smell. I was watching a video of a guy that cleans tanks and he recommend no treatment in the tanks. So I decided to give it a try. He said as long as you dump and fill, dump, fill until it comes out completely clean you should not need any treatment. It is just me by myself and I dump every 2 to 3 weeks. I have gone a month and still wasn’t full but don’t typically like to wait that long.
There is something called Struvite and it’s these big crystals that form in the tank. You need to get TankTechsRx Probiotic RV Tank Treatment it takes care of it… when you see their videos the sheets of Crystal just start pouring out of the tank it’s crazy… all the treatments are covering things up this one actually has probiotics and it eats it all… look into it and be glad you know of it!
You got front end problems on the passenger side. Possible tie rod or ball joint. Tires, get 10 ply LTs and stop buying the Michelin. Cooper comes to mind. I run 10 ply LTs on my 3/4 ton and i pull a camper. I have 28,000 on them and have another 10,000 miles left in them. They are Firestones. Firestones and Michelins are the two worst when pulling or hauling lots of weight. Check the Coopers or any Toyo. I know the Michelins give a nice ride but suck at wearing out.
There is nothing wrong with the front end, I will explain more when I change the tires, but it has to do with towing all the time and how they were rotating my tires, vs. how I thought they were doing the job! That tire you see on the front wasn't didn't come from there, that is how I noticed the wear and then started looking at the other tires and came to a discovery that I haven't been getting what I was paying for with rotations!
I have looked into the new coopers, but I believe they come on a 17 inch rim so I would need to find rims and tires to make the switch! I do like the 16 ply option though!
I think that you will enjoy Louisville, it's home to Ford's Truck plant!! and near by is Jim Beam distillery too (when we were there they had construction going on and there wasn't too much to see like at Makers Mark!!) Safe Travels!! Oh, I just put a set of Goodyear endurance tires on my travel trailer! Also looking at a set of tires for my truck too!! it has Continental from the factory! 47k so far, rated for 60k! Good to see Phil again!! That ending was Great!! Stay safe and enjoy!!
We had a great time in Louisville! You will enjoy getting to see Phil several more times! We have gone through 2 sets so far and 45-48K is all we get for mileage!
No the front end of the truck is fine! Those tires just got rotated and that front passenger tire use to be on the rear of the truck! It does have to do with the front end but related to towing, and how they have been rotating my tires! Turns out they weren't rotating them the way they said they were!
Tires for truck: Firestone Transforce HT 70,000 mi rated (many get more than the rating) On my ClassA, I put on 13k mi already and no real wear showing yet... ( RV weighs 20k lbs.)
The Michelins are 60K miles rated, but the best we have gotten is 48K! Even with rotating it only evens out the wear but doesn't help with the life! Our RV weighs in at 20K and we have 30K miles on them, they have more life but due to sidewall cracking and UV wear it is time to change them out!
@@PavingNewPaths I was steered to those Firestones by a commercial mover of large buildings...they swore by them, said they got about 10k better than the rating on their support vehicles, so they do wear easy... (for what it's worth)
I've heard good things about Michelin cooper good year The high mileage tires that's what you want There should be a manifold kit with everything you need Maybe at an rv supply
The Michelins so far with towing like we do only get about 45K miles out of them, Rotating the tires vs. not rotating them doesn't seem to change the life!
