Most of my friends are AKA’s and Alphas (I’m not in one) but like Billy said it hits different if you actually go to college to get that experience of going to a probate. A probate is a presentation for family, friends, etc announcing the “line” of the applicants (neos) who made it through. It’s actually a life long commitment that is about brotherhood/ sisterhood focusing on service and a way for you to thrive in your career and success. (I’m not in a sorority but my friends do educate me😂😂)

As a person that attended an HBCU, this movie has such a deep connection and relation that anybody who has never attended an hbcu won’t have naturally because we loved this. The style from the year of the film was accurate to what It was like, the thetas were the “Alphas” of the movie. The Alphas in real life usually have a pet snake because it’s a mascot. This movie brings back so many memories, very similar to Beyoncé’s homecoming Coachella performance.

This is a good one! The choreography is insane. Columbus Short started out as a dancer/choreographer, so did Darrin Henson and they both choreographed some of this movie.

I’m surprised that when Ne-Yo showed up Billy didn’t immediately tell everybody that he looks just like that with his hat off

I didn't join greek life because I had no interest in being hazed, humiliated, branded or paying dues to do community service and buy friends. My uncle on the otherhand is an Alpha Phi Alpha. He's almost 80 and still meets up with his line brothers at least once a year. The people that participate in Greek life, either pwi or hbcu are known to help out frat brothers/sisters with a little nepotism. It definitely seems to help upwardly mobile people advance quicker.

Movie Trivia: 1) So, the problem that u might be having with the opening scene is because it might have to do with limitations. Most scenes need to be shot multiple times for multiple angles, but with the opening dances they couldn’t do that because all the dancers were professional dancers that kept freestyling throughout filming, so they couldn’t capture the same moves from the multiple angles they wanted cause nobody repeated anything twice. It’s almost like the opening dances r scenes cobbled together as best they could with the limited amount of cameras they could have during filming. 2) Both fictional fraternities were kept separate so they could fuel the animosity between both groups. 3) The final battle was choreographed and filmed but the director hated it so much that he told them to go create new routines. So the ones that are in the film are what they thought of at the last minute. 4) I think the reason they didn’t show the final move in its entirety was because Columbus Short did the move and either broke his arm or dislocated his shoulder, so probably not something u want to see in a dance flick.

As someone who was a part of this in college, you right it do hit different when you actually experience it. These stroll/step competitions in real life go hard

I’ve seen this movie many times and DJ was still young and grieving and needed guidance and he found it in college and with his aunt & uncle. I went to college and I know how to step and have been to many step shows and Probate shows. The origin of black fraternities, sororities and stepping stems from African dance. Did you see DJ in the hall? All of those celebrities and acting and people who fought for black rights that were in fraternities and sororities. They actually do a lot for their communities and other organizations.

I love Stomp The Yard (2007). The story, performance's, music, direction, dance sequences, and cinematography was spectacular and phenomenal. It also gives a insightful and articulate representation of redemption such as fight for what you believe in and stand for. It was decent and to this day I still watch it. Stomp The Yard (2007) is a true blue modern gem in cinema. Sylvian White directed a classic that will be in our hearts forever. It never gets old.😍😎💯👍
