Webber Q Grill Low Flame, Regulator Replacement. Does your Webber Grill a have a low flame? Maybe It has regulator problems! Replace that propane regulator to get your flame back for your Webber Q. Webber Q grills, like all propane BBQ grills have a regulator that can go bad over time and may need to be replaced. In this video I fix a Webber Q1000 by replacing Its original regulator with on that I found on Amazon. I also used a couple of brass fittings that I have made links for below.
DON'T FORGET to try the simple fixes first like cleaning out the burner tube with air, physically cleaning the little holes with a paper clip and hot soapy water and a brush. If these solutions do not work it might be the regulator.
**Correction to the graphics on the video**
The valve on the grill is 1/8” male. The hex fittings used is 1/8” female to 1/4” male. The regulator is 1/4” female in and 1/4” female out. The 1Lb gas bottle adapter is 1/4” male to 1” bottle adapter.

These grills are worth repairing! So simple too! The current supply issues that are affecting almost every industries are also affecting the regulator from this video. Don't waste money buying all of these parts. The orifice is sized too small from the factory. This is to address the issue of burning the food on the grill. Because there is nothing in between the burner and the grill. Having a large gas flame would result in burned food unless you tried to cook at the lowest flame setting which still would result in unsatisfactory results. All you need to do to increase the temp and the flame is to ream out the size of the orifice on the valve. Remove the burner and then use something to increase the opening of the orifice. The orifice is brass, so it can be enlarged very easily. You don't even need a drill bit. I used a tweezer, stainless steel, very sharp and pointed. I inserted one leg of the tweezer into the orifice and twisted the tweezer until the opening enlarged. Placed the burner on the valve, turned it on, checked the flame. If it increased to about double the size, you're all set. I couldn't get above 350 degrees before, now I get over 500 degrees in about 15-20 minutes. I also bought some cast iron grates and trimmed them down to fit over the burner. I got the ceramic bbq tiles to place on top of the burner to act as a heat spreader in between the burner and the cooking grates. Now it works the way I want it to.

Very clever! I must check this out. My issue is that the grill does not get hot enough and my meat sticks to the grill because it is NOT hot enough. Then I lose half my meat and the grill will not come clean with scrubbing! So fed up with it. This regulator is horrible.

I just got the parts and set everything up just like the video. I am not getting flame on the burner. When I open the gas I get a sound like shhhhhhh that I didn’t get with the old regulator. It sound like gas coming out but there is no flame. I changed to the old regulator again and opened the little hole a bit and it works better than before. I get flame on all the burner. Could it be that I need more pressure with the new regulator or maybe it is damaged. What can I do?

It’s possible that something is wrong with the Valve. These valves are sold with the regulator. If the price isn’t prohibitive that is not a bad option. Here is the item I am referring to ➡️ amzn.to/43QRJCj

Thanks for the video. I had no gas coming through at all. Figured the regulator pooped out. Just finished connecting all the parts. When I turned it on it made a heck of a racket and I could smell the gas. I turned everything on again, only this time only opened the regulator slightly. I was able to light the BBQ! I have mine connected to a 20lb tank. I also used white Teflon tape. Do you have any warnings? Am I going to blow-up?

The underlying issue is that there is not enough gas flow at the burners. You can get more flow by increasing the inlet pressure given a fixed orifice size or increase the size of the orifice . My $0 dollar solution was just drilling out the control valve orifice with a 1/16th still bit. Having the potential of having someone ignite the grill at the start setting with the regulator set to 20psi(20-40x the former setting) is just unimaginable. I might have missed it but I would put a disclaimer in your video, " you die, don't sue me."
@sanseiryu
@sanseiryu 2 года назад
1/16th will be too large. Just use a thin sharp implement( I used a sharp tweezer) to ream out the orifice to increase the volume of gas to the burner.

Hi. I did this replacement for my Q1200. However when I fully open the replacement regulator (the model suggested in this video), the flame in the tube extinguishes. It works fine on a low setting, but if I pass a certain point twisting the red knob, the gas keeps flowing but flame goes out. Also, on your replacement, the red knob of the regulator aligns with your BBQ, I can only get mine to align face down. Any ideas/suggestions. Thanks.

Thanks for watching the video! Great question and the subject of much debate. White tape is single density and recommended only for smaller fittings. Yellow tape is double density and code for larger fittings in many places. I selected yellow for this project for two reasons, 1.) I had some and 2.) it’s recommended for gas fittings.

I understand your confusion because after I read your comment I also became confused. As a result I took the grill completely apart today to investigate. There are a couple of things going on here. Amazon has the sizes listed incorrectly on the regulator description, (probably how I listed it wrong). I have added this correction to the video: ***Correction to the graphics on the video*** The valve on the grill is 3/8” male. The hex fittings used is 3/8” female to 1/4” male. The regulator is 1/4” female in and 1/4” female out. The 1Lb gas bottle adapter is 1/4” male to 1” bottle adapter. Also, I have a new video coming this week for this grill. Thanks for the question!

Take this as feedback. I was able to fix my Q1200 with a dead regulator using parts suggested here. I did buy a ¼mip x ⅛fip bushing from the local hardware store. The valve was stuck to the og reg pretty tightly. Be careful cuz its made out of aluminum (i think). Pros: I can now use a 1lb tank (og kinda blocked by rear frame.) I can adjust the output a bit to get desired temp. Cons: entire weight of new reg now supported by plastic valve assembly & burner. Red knob of new reg feels kinda flimsy. Thanks for sharing an alt. I look forward to seeing how long the new reg will survive.
