You are making good progress, good to see that. Interesting for me to see how the exercises have changed since I had my hips done, maybe 7 years ago, can't remember any more. I do remember one big milestone was when they let me do flip turns again. Keep up the good work.
Hi Shelley, It is now six weeks since my hip operation, I do hope that you don't mind me sharing my experience. At three and a half weeks I was able to get into rehab which I strongly recommend. I have a physio and Exercise physiologist supervising my recovery, within a group environment. Since then, I have gone ahead in leaps and bounds, which they put down to the work that I did before hand. My mobility has improved markedly, I've been able to include weights to my exercises and doing Hydro. I'm walking unaided between 2.5 -3 km. Though I do find that it a challenge to walk a straight line. I tend to wander a bit. (something about the brain getting used to the new hip). I walk about two times per week because that is all i can fit in. I've been able to do a couple of shifts at work - this really tires me out! The rehab sessions comprise of 30-45 mins gym and 35-40 mins hydro. After this, yes, I am tired, but I am able to complete my day then sleep very well at night. Today I'm going for my first swim which will comprise of a little kicking with flippers, swimming with pull bouy, and a little freestlyle; I need to be aware of my body position when doing freestlyle (not to twist but to stay flat). I'm so very excited. Wound is fully healed but the site is a little tender I walk around with my hand on my hip when shopping, esp in supermarkets! Basically, I am doing the same exercises at you are Shelly but I have been allowed (by the specialist) to do as much upper body work as I want. Just need to watch form and body position. Thank you for allowing me to share this. As i mentioned your experience has been very supportive for me.
I'm in the USA and had an anterior hip replacement 6 weeks ago. Physical therapy started 5 days after surgery & continues to be rigorous. PT actually started day of surgery in the hospital in order to go home.
