How are you doing mr Micah . Iam Arabic lady subscriber to several British and American RU-vid channels. I didn’t send comments to you from very long time. Thank you for your wonderful cultural channel. It’s great ideas to show people titles of books and encourage them to read learn new information. I chose one of books you mentioned just main theme and author biography briefly here it’s East of Edan is epic novel full of good and evil , love , hatred, failure , redemption. Plot summary set in rich farmland of California Salina valley, this sprawling and often brutal novels followes intertwined destinies of two families- trasks and Hamilton- whose generations helplessly reenact fall of Adam and Eva and poisonous rivalry of Cain and Abel . John Steinbeck ( 1902 - 1968 ) he was American writer . He won Nobel prize for his realistic and imaginative writing. He also won Pulitzer Prize for fiction . He called ( giant of American letters) . His notable works such as of mice and men , grapes of wrath , East of eden . We appreciate your great efforts as foreigners subscribers as overseas students want to increase our cultural level improve our English as well and literature lovers too. Good luck to you your dearest ones .

Todd here. Great Weekend Reading Update Micah. That East of Eden looks interesting. It's probably best to read the book before you watch the movie. I hope summer is treating you well.

New subscriber here. I, too, am currently reading the Decameron. I always found Sardinia's Count Cavour's involvement fascinating regarding the Crimean War. An excellent example of Realpolitik in action.

Looking forward to reading East of Eden again when you read it next year. I’ve only read it once and started it Friday night and finished on Sunday night. I couldn’t stop reading. I’m sure I missed things and want to read it more carefully now.

Thank you, Deb! I am really excited for that read along. I think it’ll be a great time! I remember reading it for the first time over a very similar timeline. It’s very hard to put down! I also agree that there are so many little details that show themselves upon second and third and however many readings! It’s a great novel to revisit.

I read part of Don Quixote in Spanish in my senior year of high school. in a class where one girl kept annoyingly whining, "Don Quixote es loco," as though that's not the entire point of his character and as if that's not meant as a contrast with the negative people around him. I wish I could finally start my long video series on The Decameron that I've been promising for so long, but I'm not going to humiliate myself by investing so much time and effort on 100+ videos when barely anyone on BookTube knows me from Adam. My channel needs a lot more engagement before I can start this series on one of my all-time favoritest books. It wouldn't be worth it if most videos get very low views and maybe one or two comments if I'm lucky.

I had a great time with East of Eden, I read that earlier this month. I had so many surprises with it, that enhanced my reading experience, like the sense of humor throughout the book. Or the absolute nastiness of one of the characters (you know who I'm talking about). She's now one of my favorite hate-able characters in fiction!
@Yesica1993

YEGADS, I loathed that character more than is probably healthy to loathe a fictional person!

I’m so glad to hear you had a good experience with the book! Oh, I completely agree with you. She is SO hate-able, but she’s a favorite for me in that category as well. I am such a fan of Steinbeck’s humor, it hits at all the right moments!

Have you published the 2024 C&C schedule? I have _East of Eden_ and might consider it, but trying to fit reading to a timeframe doesn’t tend to work for me. Glad you’re still reading. Work can be a huge impediment, but you seem to be handling it well.
@MicahCummins
@MicahCummins 11 месяцев назад
Thank you, David! It definitely can be a channel balancing everything in life with reading, but I’m hoping to keep it up. We have the C&C schedule posted on our Discord server, there is a link to that in my video descriptions, and I will also be putting up a video sometime soon talking over all the titles as well. It would be wonderful to have you join us, although I also completely understand about fitting reading into a certain timeline.

Great stack! My busy life has almost induced a reading slump for me. However, I did finish reading In the heart of the sea yesterday and found it to be unnecessarily long-drawn simply for it to appear as this suspenseful and thrilling tale which it was but the book didn't need to be quite as long. However, I am trying to write a paper on maritime cannibalism and contrast it with Levinasian ethics, so I think the resources can be interesting. Any actually thrilling non fiction reads that can truly get me back into reading, even staying up all night? I'd be truly grateful.
@MicahCummins
@MicahCummins 11 месяцев назад
Thanks, Tanya! Wow, your paper sounds fascinating! I hope that goes well for you. I enjoyed “In The Heart of the Sea” but I do agree with you that some sections felt a little long drawn out. As for the recommendations, let me think on that for a bit and I’ll let you know what I can gather! I’ll need to scan my shelves…

Weeeell looks like March of the Mammoths has returned! All the big books. Weren't you tempted to throw in a novella there to break up the reading marathons?
@MicahCummins
@MicahCummins 11 месяцев назад
It has returned for me, indeed! I was tempted too, yes! Although, for some reason I didn’t end up breaking them up, and just dived right in.
