Wegiel Ambasador chess set from amazon . Com at the time of my purchase it was $47.00 with free shipping. This is a beautiful set well made and worth it.
Just got this from a board game shop its 100 bucks now, but i couldn't ask for anything better for my first legit chess set. Really happy with it, really good review, sums up my thoughts perfectly.
Am sold on this board. After seeing your vid I decided to pull the trigger and purchased the set. Can't wait to display it on my coffee table once it arrives. I hope whoever makes these boards is the same original craftsman of yesteryear.
Yes agree I’ve had my 21Inch Ambassador for about three months also got the 16 inch a month later and love em. Although the Queens Gambit Series has inspired many people to get into chess I already had wanted to get back into playing after many years for some mental stimulation. Funny that at the end of your video you referred to your Backgammon set. I had the one I ordered arrive just a week ago. Made by Silverman & Co. $298 AUS.
Nice close-ups! I do like the design of the pieces, particularly the king and queen, I just wish the carving was more meticulous and less crude. Waiting for The House of Staunton to sell a set like this!
I enjoyed your video...wow, what a beautiful set...so elegant and the queens and kings have the opposite sides coloring on their crowns and crosses... I don't play much anymore but I would love to go over some great games played in the past by the grand masters of the game.
Yes it is, I have it still like new ... All my hobby items are still like new. I was learning to play chess and I liked it ... I'm no good I haven't played since my retirement, I need to find someone to play with because the dudes I played with are my co workers but they are still working 12 hr shifts 6 days a week that's why we played at work every chance we got... And I was becoming better each time we played but now I suck🙉smh
"Here's your black king or brown king..from Africa" I about lost it! Haha. I really want to get this set, but Christmas is closing in, so I need to give someone else that chance.
I like the size of it. The board is nicely detailed. Just not too crazy about the pieces. The knights just don’t have any nice detail to them. I prefer a set with beautiful knights.
You have the original brown one, I got the same 21x21" ambassador, saem chessmen design, but in green wood board, idk if it's the limited edition but its strikingly beautiful, like an emerald green. I'm never parting with it. strictly for home use only. obtained it @ Rochester chess center, NY I believe the originals came in two versions, black and brown, then the more attractive colored versions come in green, and I've also seen blue... search YT "ambassador dark blue edition "
@@BIGGBULLxxx wish I could sir, but I lack the equipment. BTW I just checked Rochester's website, they still have the green version! along with blk & blue, they seem to be out of the brown, which is the one I imagine most ppl buy. Got my green one in 2015 and the dark pieces came with red base pads, awesome look!
The polish company "weigel' copied the K&Q's contrasting finials from the old Soviet sets, (I've seen the originals, ) from the days of Botvinnik, the Soviets contested the W. Championship among themselves with this K&Q style, and in many cases, the bishop figure also had a contrasting ball top in those antique Soviet sets. I find it fascinating, the historical connection.
@@BIGGBULLxxx , no, if the chessmen are not waxed properly they will rot and crack fast within months and humidity will destroy them specially hornbeam wood is vulnerable.
It doesn't look like a witch craft set to me ... and im the owner of this set And that is all that matters is how the owner views it, others can say what they want to say about it
Well they did a good job to me, and well deserve the 40 plus dollars. I would like to see you take the time to make this exact same set by hand and then sell it for under 50 dollars ...after your hard labor in making this set, I guarantee that your gonna want more than 50 dollars for it🤪
ALUMINUM CRUSHER Actually I had this chess set many years ago. I remember the pieces were full of cracks and the queens’ crowns and kings’ heads chipped and broke after a while. Also, the pieces were awkward for playing with. $50 is still a good amount of money with which you can buy good standard type of chess sets nowadays. Anyways, enjoy playing your chess games whatever chess set you decide to use.
@@kevinwellwrought2024 ...Thanks I have other chess sets, I had bought this one for lunch room breaks at work in a steel mill and it still looks new after all the games we played on it ... but every one washed there hands before playing and we wiped off the table before putting down the board.
ALUMINUM CRUSHER you are welcome. I think the main reason why my chess set had cracks and other irregularies was because the wood they had used for making them was poor quality. The queens’ crowns are also too big and very likely to break. However, this is as you pointed out an economy chess set and we cannot have very high expectations in regard to quality.
Oh well I had it for 4 years now and it's still holding up like new. It's sure a dawn good clone/fake. But it all comes down to... can it get the job done😇
