Check out 3D-Coat here: 3d-coat.com
Welcome to an overview of 3D-Coat; a fantastic 3d sculpting, retopology, and texturing painting application. In this tutorial series, I will be going over the basics of 3D-Coat. We'll discuss the basics of the sculpting tools, voxel and surface based workflows, retopology, texturing, and more!
This tutorial series is intended for absolute newcomers to 3D-Coat. I will not be going over every single tool and will gloss over the advanced features.
I hope you enjoy this series and find it useful!

Fantastically powerful. Looks like an infinite rabbit-hole though.

Great explanation there, and it's good that you keep the pacing low so people have time to understand what you are explaining. Thanks!

„“,needs a condition (!), which decides how much of the material will be applied to what kind of surfaces (concave,convex etc.) next „“ which gives the sharpness of the conditional mask and "", which decides how far from the edges the material fades away.

Hey Question, How come When I see it through the smart material preview its a lot clearer, then when I paint it, This is Driving me CRAZY.

hi thank you for the sharing. My question is; How can we access and edit the metarial which we already assigned into a layer?
@-Belshazzar-

Thanks man, I use SP but this seems much more intuitive and powerful and when you consider it's also a full fledged modeling and sculpting retopo uv and all well... I guess I am gonna ditch SP and move over to 3DC

Substance kinda sux.
@marsmotion

yeah agree. wow is substance just needlessly complex and a pain

and how do you reorder the smart material layers?

where did you get those textures?

Can you use substance painter's smart materials in this?
@TheKevphil

Do the textures that you apply tile seamlessly? Is that a prerequisite? Thanks!
@AlienMinefield
@AlienMinefield 7 лет назад
The ones that I use typically are. It's usually a good idea to use a tiling texture so that the seams aren't visible when you apply the material. The texture is repeated possibly many times along the side of the model when you use a smart material, so if it doesn't tile, it can be very noticeable.

Why doesn't the top tool bar for Roughness and Metalness affect the amount applied like opacity and depth does?
@AlienMinefield
@AlienMinefield 6 лет назад
It doesn't because opacity affects ALL the channels. When you set the opacity to 50%, you'll only apply that amount of whatever color, metalness, roughness, and depth you have set. Typically, if you want to paint new metalness/roughness values without affecting color, you can just turn off color painting and usually paint in a new layer. Now, one feature that 3d-Coat doesn't have that I hope it will in the future is to be able to paint new metalness values without painting roughness information and vice versa. Right now they have to be painted together.
@MaxHancock
@MaxHancock 6 лет назад
Thank you for this. I'm still a little confused. If I set Metalness/Roughness there to 0 or 100, it doesn't change anything, even if I set the opacity to 50%. I would think it would take the PBR material I choose, and decrease or increase the influence of it's metalness/gloss/roughness by that degree I choose at the top of the interface, but it doesn't. Why have it in the interface if it doesn't do anything at all? So, right now, the only way to change the amount of metalness/roughness levels is to edit the material you are using.

how do i get / make curvature map and occlusion ambient?
@Tranqualizer20
@Tranqualizer20 8 лет назад
+Denis Baručija I am the person who uploaded the video, but the AlienMinefield account can't comment. Go to 1:10 in the video, I create the curvature and ambient occlusion maps there.
