Welcome to an overview of 3D-Coat; a fantastic 3d sculpting, retopology, and texturing painting application. In this tutorial series, I will be going over the basics of 3D-Coat. We'll discuss the basics of the sculpting tools, voxel and surface based workflows, retopology, texturing, and more!
This tutorial series is intended for absolute newcomers to 3D-Coat. I will not be going over every single tool and will gloss over the advanced features.
I hope you enjoyed this series and find it useful!

Excellent series! I bought 3DCoat a few years ago, but I couldn’t seem to navigate around the interface. So I gave up, then bought a Udemy class. That got me started again. Then I found your videos and WOW, they are way better than the ones I paid for. Your videos are short, focused, to the point with no rambling, and very well articulated. Your are an excellent teacher and after watching all of these, I am on my way to becoming a 3D master. Thank you so much for posting these. Now I’m gonna watch your other 3DCoat videos!

Thank you so much for this tutorial series. It was a wonderful refresher to 3D Coat which I had gone away from for a while. I see many items that I do not remember seeing in any previous tutorials which make me more eager to stay with 3D Coat

been looking at coat for a while now. this series is wonderful. why 3dc doesnt have tuts this good natively is a mystery to me. but im new so maybe i need to look harder at them. so often we need to re learn aspects of software and what you have done adds that to 3dc very well.

lol good one. ahhh. yeah zb really gets me in its materials, like i never understood them. and retopo in zb sucks. esp for more complex stuff. and its like a coral reef of options overload that uses its own language too. ive learned it but you have to re learn it too mcuh.

For some reason my turntable is going vertically rather than horizontally. I can't find any settings to change that. Any idea what could be going on?

+Jourdan Seelye I'm the person who uploaded the video, but the alienminefield account cannot comment for some reason. You might want to check your scene axes. 3d-coat by default is a Y-Up system, but yours may have been changed to a Z-Up system. If you go to Edit -> Preferences and click on the "General" tab, there should be an option for 'Swap Y and Z scene axes'. See if that's turned on and change it if it is.

+Eurrikke Edward I am the person that uploaded the video, but the AlienMinefield account cannot comment. It depends on the type of texture you are trying to bake, as discussed in part 18 of this series, you can bake normal maps from your high resolution mesh. You can also bake ambient occlusion maps in the paint room and world space normal maps.

Thanks for the reply. Was thinking of the entire set of textures. I'm currently using ZBrush and the cheese way to bake in the textures and mat cap's look is super fussy. Having to transfer the texture maps into a box object etc etc. Wondered if 3D coat would have a less fussy way of doing it. I'll check out the video you pointed out tho. Thanks!

hello! first of all FANTASTIC video and thanks for sharing with all )),great job! I like the software and like to buy and learn .Ive heard the 3d coat is made in Kiev ,Ukraine and sold from there and no Paypal but just a credit Card purchase. Please can you tell me or advise where and how to safely i can buy it? and I am sure you teach on youtube or other ways to learn. this is very friendly and good program ,i am very excited .:-) appreciate ! thx eros

I originally bought my license of 3d-Coat through Steam and later upgraded to a commercial license via a credit card. You can always download it through their website 3d-coat.com.

thanks a lot for that info ,its very helpful, do you suggest just to buy from Steam the commercial professional version? also do you have other videos I can watch and learn to begin using 3d coat? thank you I appreciate your help
