I swear to God every time I watch this video, I start to cry, and then I want to leave my comment on it, but it just hits me too hard and I think "I'm going to take a minute and then comment" It's a vicious cycle, so I am forcing myself to finally gather the composure to post something. lol but I just want you to know that this one was very powerful, and it hit me like a ton of bricks! It's still messing with my emotions today! It's just so perfect and heartbreakingly relatable and all the reasons we love Wes! You did such an incredible job! I'm so sorry if my comment isn't up to par. This video just haunts me! The way you showed throughout the video how hard Wesley tries. No matter if he screws up or it seems hopeless, there's no one who TRIES as hard as he does or wants to HELP more! And the fact that he does mess up in that pursuit is just so human and something we can all relate to. The important thing is to still TRY. Gah the way you started the video with his nerdy awkward side and people just kind of not giving him a chance despite how hard he clearly wants to participate was perfect! Loved your choice of "his mother thought he was quite the prodigy" for "I had the shiniest wheels now they're rusting" and the s3 btvs Faith stuff for "I've got a lot of regrets about that" and the way he went from panicking in the scene with Giles to his stoicism in Pylea! The growth! Gah and all the examples you used of him asking to help for "this is me trying"!! SO good! And of course everyone pushing him away until Angel lets him in! /sobs/ I really picked up on how sweet their relationship is in this video. The part where Angel compliments Wesley's book research was SO great! I love seeing him appreciated like that! And the way he realizes he can still uphold his vows after forsaking the council! I hate that the fandom gives Giles a free pass for almost three seasons supporting the council's decisions (including literally poisoning Buffy) before he has his breaking point, but doesn't offer the same luxury to Wes. Like yeah, drugging Buffy was the last straw for Giles. Wesley needed the Faith stuff to happen in order to get to the same conclusion as Giles! It's not rocket science, people! lol but I digress... Ugh the hospital scene with Fred...the way you cut back and forth with his drinking himself away and his throat being cut. OUCH!! "fell behind on my classmates and I ended up here" OMG so gut-wrenching with Wesley walking into his apartment alone like that!!! Holy crap! And aaww of course I love the use of Lilah for "pouring out my heart to a stranger"!! 🥰 "and it's hard to be at a party when I feel like an open wound" LOVE THAT YOU USED THE SCENE WHERE HE SAYS HE'S FRESH OUT OF BLOOD AFTER LETTING ANGEL FEED OFF HIM. It fits the metaphor AND it is also literal lol gah the story about trying to bring the bird back to life!!! That sums Wes up in a nutshell. ALWAYS TRYING TO SAVE EVERYONE EVEN WHEN IT'S IMPOSSIBLE!!! /sobbing/ and the ending!!!! The juxtaposition between "but you didn't" and "but it means something that you tried" YES YES YES!!! We can't always succeed but trying for DAMN SURE matters!!! You are a genius to end it like that!!! I think that might be my favorite part!!! 😭 Thank you so much for this masterpiece! Seriously, it simultaneously breaks and heals my heart!!! You're so talented and I can really feel your love for Wesley pouring out of this one!!! Beautiful work! 💚
I love all your edits, but I swear this one has just become my favorite. It captures the complexity of this character so well! And the song is PERFECT for him. He really is trying. I loved that you used a lot of clips from S1 because that’s my favorite “Wesley”… he’s trying so hard to be part of something, to fit in, to impress Angel and Cordy and be part of their group (for example here 1:28, when he’s so happy because Angel included him in the mission 🥹). But I love him in every part of his evolution, when he’s trying to be a good Watcher, when he fails, when he starts over again after his failure. He had such a journey… he suffered and failed so many times, and yet he’s so resilient. That’s what I love about him. Wesley really is the best
