The background music so touching and sweet. It’s so beautiful it makes my heart ache for this family and nostalgic for this time. It’s really sad to see this young family where three out of the four died so young.
Every little thing she did was magic 🪄. Jackie was and will forever be a source of pride to our country and the world. A lady under the worst of circumstances and the best of them. May she and JFK, and their children lost rest in eternal peach together.
Nice to see so much of it was preserved, even down to the bathroom sink. I hope the current owners do not change too much. Preservation seems to be lost on homes of a certain era now with the "knock-down-a-wall-and-open-it-up" crowd, any more.
Lovely tour and very lovely music as well! My heart will always ache when I think what happened to the late great JFK, Jackie and JFK Jr! Poor Caroline! Thankfully she has a long successful marriage to Ed and three beautiful grown children, one married now! Cape Codder here, don't live that far from the compound! Thanks for sharing~
Brenda Drew Beautifully said. Jackie had brought up her children to be dignified, polite, and down to earth. All represented ( Carline continues to do so) your country with intelligence and grace. What can one say, of the current occupants of the White House?
My dear Friend Robert (Bobby) Young, worked with Jackie on many Occasions from New York>>>He owned a very exclusive and known Antique Shoppe in Manhattan>>Impeccable TASTE >This is a "Sprawling Colonial Ranch" and so comfortable for a get away....love the space and layout>>spacious and bright ...>Guest House-Charming....... tennis Court>>a step back in time with Fine Decorating...I like the Den in corals and greens. and the Bedrooms and Bathrooms....what a past reflection.
It's the only house Jackie Kennedy designed and built. Called Wexford after the County in Ireland where the Kennedy's hail from. JFK thought it a little cramped apparently. Ronald and Nancy Reagan rented it in 1980 for a few weeks when he was President elect. The Bush's visited and also stayed during that time. It's a beautiful property!
Wexford is in the little town of Middleburg, in Loudoun County, VA, 42 miles NW of DC. Jackie found the land, designed the simple, modern, cottage and its 4 stall stable, she drew the layout of tennis court, pool, paddocks, ring and hill top course. She needed a quiet getaway close to the White House to read, write and ride, plus, (pony club), the kids so they would learn to ride/jump and manage trails better. Wexford is also close to farms where she Fox hunted and hung with friends. Wexford has remained unchanged. www.townandcountrymag.com/leisure/real-estate/g12049649/kennedy-house-wexford-virginia/, en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middleburg,_Virginia,
I cry each time I see the gentle Kennedy family - please Universe - may this world be blessed with the quiet perfection of loving families - once again and forever -
@@bjishername An article in the Architectural Digest stated that "The president (JFK) reportedly didn't like the place at all." www.architecturaldigest.com/story/john-jacqueline-kennedy-virginia-house-plans-auction-article
The house i presume was named after County Wexford in Ireland from where John F's Great Grandfather originated from and sailed to America in 1849. John F visited Wexford in June 1963 during his tour of Ireland.
Sean Crowe Jackie's maternal grandparents and great grandparents came from Ireland too. Jackie didn't know this until their state visit to Ireland when a genealogist told her, because her mother always lied and said she was one of "the Lee's of Virginia". She confronted her mother about it afterward but Janet just went apeshit and Hugh Auchincloss told Jackie to just leave it alone. She felt very French but only one of her eight great grandparents actually came from France.
The home that Jacqueline designed for herself on Martha's Vineyard is much lovelier than this property. She purchased over 360 acres there and kept most of the land undisturbed, but built a great house, pool, tennis court, tree house for the kids, guest house.
Would be interesting to see an update on this house. It must have new owners and I wonder if they chose to keep the Kennedy connection or did they completely redo it. Gorgeous property, just an awfully dated house.
Just a thought, but I wonder if the building and final designing of this home was a helpful activity for her after they lost baby Patrick in May. Just guessing.
@@bsrk3170 Yes, thank you. For some reason I had always thought it was May. I had a friend who was a neo-natal nurse and she said often for the same problem that killed the President's son, they just take care of it. Now, I said President not to diminish Jackie, but rather that whatever services would be available would be there's and it was not enough. How times change.
I don't believe that Jackie "built" this house, it was built by a previous owner, and she and her husband only rented it. They also rented another home in the area, called Glen Ora. Check it out.
Misinformed, that is Glen Ora, their rental home. The Kennedys never moved to Wexford due to his death. You showed a realtors listing from Middleburg, VA. "Glen Ora" not "Wexford" in Atoka.
Michael Geiler, You are incorrect on this. Glen Ora was a two story rental home that the Kennedy family leased during the first part of JFK's Presidency. When the lease on Glen Ora was not renewed, the Kennedy's built this home, which Jacqueline Kennedy designed and named "Wexford". Unfortunately, due to the death of President Kennedy, the Kennedy family was only able to spend a very short few months enjoying Wexford after its completion. After the assassination of her husband, Jacqueline Kennedy would never return to Wexford.
Michael Geiler Yes, this House is Glen Ora, not Wexford. It was rented from a friend for a couple of years. When the owner wanted to return from living in Europe to this yellow house, that’s when Jackie began the building of Wexford. However, they only stayed at Wexford a couple of times.......because of JFK’s death...
I agree. She should have worked with a good architect. She sped beyond understated straight into bland, predictable, and boring. The house reflects neither NY tasteful affluence nor Southern charm and comfort. I admire her taste in most areas but, just in my opinion, she missed the mark with this house.
orange paneling...out all carpet...history bin all wallpaper...changed or eliminated outdated furniture...gone or reupholstered other than that...a nice house.
🌵 this interior has a tacky decore looks like something from a tract housing complex with all their money you think they could have quality Rich luxurious opulence 02-22-19. 7:35 pm pst
Actually in the early '60s there wasn't the range of home fixture products available - at any price - that there are today. So judging houses built in that era by today's standards is difficult.
🌵 architects, interior designers, antique dealers, custom made furniture companies, custom-made drapery weaving houses. The rich elite always have access to the top quality brand. Kennedys, were one of the richest family at the time, and they live like shabby chic? Maybe that's how they got rich. They didn't spend their money on eye candy? I don't think so. I have seen many photos of their different houses, and I'm quite surprised, at the appearance of inferior, interior decore. Tu 03-13-19. 1:55 am pst
