How would you answer "What's your biggest weakness?" Let me know in the comments!
@jesusmaldonado5653

Cass Thompson Career Advice I love your videos, they have been very helpful! My answer to my biggest weakness is that “I tend to ask a lot of questions and I feel like I might be overbearing/annoying to the person being questioned and or appear that I wasn’t listening but I want to have as much insight going into a project as much as possible to get the job done right. I realize this isn’t always practical since there isn’t much time in the day so now I tend to only ask questions that carry the most weight so I can get my answers quick and get started right away. This has helped me with work etc.” Now this is a rough copy but also I feel like this is a strength disguised as a weakness so I’m wondering if this is one? Thanks! Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks Cassa. And thank you for the follow up. Trust me, you are a star. They asked about any deal that I dealt with in the past( condition: use academic or work experience), this was a piece of a cake thanks to you. since I also worked in hospitality industry, I copied your example from A to Z. And I started rubbing a yellow paper on the situation, too much of salt in the middle of it and ended up with honey, butter. They loved it. Weakness, I did the same thing. I did not wanna stress and I had prayef and said if it's mine it will be. Even questions I asked them were exactly yours because they can apply in all domains. NB: my advice to your followers, people should read the job D and and understand. Then apply yo strategies. FUNNY and Scary: I asked them whether based on what we discussed( which was yr example too) is there anything that was leaving me with hesitance with hiring me. They looked each other in the eyes, all said naaaaaaaaah. However, depends on lengths of the interview I had realized that I got them. And these people are not real BIG PROFILES Before, I forget I landed 1hr before talking to folks outside the company who smoking just to make myself included in the company hh. Cassa your star. May God bless. Their last question was: WHERE ARE U READY TO START? 😘 I mean the interview took 1:40. I was even tired of them.

There's a way to answer this question very well. Be honest about something that has been a weakness (that is not a criteria for the role of course) and show how you've developed a plan to get better at it. That's what the interview is trying to understand.

I ALWAYS say something stupid because my anxiety gets so high - then I try to fix it and it always ends up a train wreck. Try putting yourself in the interviewer’s position ... if you’re hiring for your own company, you want the best people available. If the interviewee tells you a weakness that’s directly connected to the job role, you would be skeptical to hire them too.. the weakness question imo is a trick question to test how can you come out looking good after being asked a tough question... 🤷

Good video. My biggest weakness used to be shyness as well. When I was applying to university I really had hard time to say a single word. At one point I started to practice my social skills and speaking on daily basis. Baby steps and small things. Nowadays I almost never feel nervous to speak even if I am talking to a bigger crowd. Then again my biggest weakness nowadays is probably similar to Cass's weakness. I have strong opinions and I am relatively vocal about my opinions. Nowadays I actually try listen to more to other people and their reasoning instead of trying to steamroll other people's opinions.

since I have been a caregiver for over 30 years to the elderly, children, and people with special needs both physical and mental, I am very protective of them. My weakness is that I get too attached to my patient and treat them like family. If someone were to harm my family member especially intentionally I would protect them and make sure no harm comes their way. Unfortunately as a caregiver we are not family but employees. I have learned over the years and still learning to keep myself in check. I need to realize that I am not their family, that I'm an employee of the family, that I'm not their equal, and I should know my place. Almost like a servant but friendly. I should speak when spoken to and know when to be quiet....

See this is why I watch these videos because I'm old school and since I was a single mother supporting my daughter for so many years without any government nor child support assistance I didn't have time to pursue a college degree and earn a lot of money... I worked low income jobs or worked as a private caregiver for many years. Now that I am married, no kids except 1 step son, and seeking employment in a non - private home environment.. It is very difficult. The weakness answer would have been the old school one for me... What I was taught 30 years ago but now I see the NEW way is different and the millennials are looking for something unique. Nothing wrong with it just glad to know this.

So my greatest weakness is sometimes If i am in an argument with someone And if I really do believe i am right I won't stop the argument unless I convince them. even if the matter isn't that relevant Eventually I started to understand how much I wasted my own and others time and energy. And so started to agree to disagree Through this process I even get to see that sometimes there no wrong idea. Everyone can be right in their own way.

Okay, so the one I just practiced is pretty wordy, I understand I'll need to toss out some details and tighten up to probably less than a minute if I don't want to sound like I'm rationalizing or waffling. It's along the lines of "During parts of a shift that were a little bit fast, but not quite to the point where I reached my constant pace, I would begin to feel like I may not be contributing enough to the overall workflow. I would begin asking a lot of questions - basically short-term status updates - outside of my station. 'Do we need dishes done yet?' 'How are you doing at the bar?' 'Has our online order been picked up?' I never received direct feedback from my teammates, but I began to realize I probably came across as quite controlling, or at the very least invasive. Frequent questions more likely than not were a bit of a distraction, since I was diverting my team's focus from their physical tasks and mental checklists to my specific concerns. I wasn't really trusting myself or my team enough. "I wasn't in a leadership position at that time, so I had to learn that it really wasn't my place to demand that kind of attention. If I'm doing my job, I will be carrying my team, and if my team is doing their jobs, they will be carrying me. I got in the habit of taking half a second, breathing, getting back inside myself, and making my communication happen much more through observation and intuition rather than language. "I quickly began to see a bit of an improvement on our efficiency when I started to remove this tick from the equation. As well, I'd been seeing a relative lack of vocal communication as a limitation, but it's one of those limitations with a very important purpose. As we can't each see every part of our building at all times, learning to make faster observations and intuit my surroundings better let me pick up on pre-math and after-math of other people's work, without needing direct confirmation from somebody that the work has been done. So, I began learning small variations in the environment that can serve as clues that somebody is already setting up a task for completion or has just done so. "That team was very temporary, but I've spent a lot of time since practicing these skills and paying closer attention to when and how I use vocal communication. I'm very much anticipating an opportunity to demonstrate my improvement in this area by becoming a part of this team and putting my faith into my colleagues."

What if you’re an internal processor and you want all the information before making a decision or turning in a project? I’m applying for a cashier/sales associate position and if I get asked this question can I say. A big weakness of mine is I can be too nice to people in many cases I would let people step all over me and not say a word. But as of late I have been working on speaking up for myself where it’s needed. Oh is that the worst thing I can say?? I have no idea I am also very opinionated but there are many times where I just don’t want to come out and say my opinion because I’m afraid that I might be wrong or people will judge me based on my opinion.

"I tend to talk myself out of trying new things. I always enjoy learning new things; however, the caveat is that I am self-aware to the point where I know my limitations so I'll weigh my limitations against the new opportunity. Lately, I have realized I'm limiting myself by doing this, because some limitations can be overcome, and as you can see on my resume, I pushed myself and went back to school, graduated with a high GPA, and now I'm interviewing for a job that sounds like a lot of fun, and will be very rewarding - not just for me, but rewarding for the people I'm going to meet along the way, and for this company." (How does that sound)? lol

Hearing "limit" several times in a row draws more attention to "limit" and less to what it's being used to mean. Though, this is a bit more of a written communication problem if you aren't beholden to your own scripts.

After watching "What is your biggest weakness?'" I have finally found the perfect answer!! I, myself, am just like you Cass! I never thought of that being a weakness but It sure does work for the question and easy to show growth. I love it!! It describes me to a tee.

Hey! I have an interview in 2 days for a Cashier position at Harris Teeter (my local grocery store). I've never been to a job interview before.. I have applied to Arts Schools before and had to practice answers for questions like this. Do you think that a good answer for "what's your biggest weakness?" is time management? That's what I would say. I would elaborate on it, of course, but just wanted your opinion :)

Advice. Say you are bad at remembering names. I work in retail and it's a perfect weakness - relatable, but not deal-breaking.

Just about no one I've ever met would consider your go-to weakness as a weakness, quite the opposite actually. From my experience everybody expects extroverts with high levels of energy and engagements who are constantly taking the lead at every given opportunity, whereas nobody wants to hire someone who's not constantly talking, who's not hyper energetic and who's not constantly trying to be the center of all attention - like, nobody actually wants to work with such people, but when it comes to the actual hiring process it seems like the moment you're not absolutely bursting with enthusiasm and excitement and when you even just hint at you being somewhat more of a background person, it's basically just game over.

Hey I’m applying for a job at an animal food warehouse and I will most likely work the front desk to start out. My strength is in the fact I’ve always worked with many animals. Can I say my weakness is that I’ve never worked retail before but applying for this job is me working on that weakness? Is that to related to the job?

I have an interview tomorrow and I will answer it with this: "I think my weakness is my anxiety. I haven't seen a psychologist and haven't been diagnosed but for the past months I've been feeling some symptoms. I get anxiety attacks whenever I'm alone in a room, or when I'm commuting somewhere I'm not familiar or when I'm in a long line. It's making it hard for me to go to interviews but here I am in front of you. I'm working on it, doing meditations and learning how I can cope up. I actually am trying to be fearless, because according to Taylor Swift... Being fearless is not the absence of fear, it's about having fear and doubts but jumping in anyway."

@@SolutionsWithin hi! Got the job at the first interview even if stated that I have anxiety. The HR is even happy that I am open and honest (honesty is one of their core values) and gave tips on how I could cope with it. She said that they hire for honesty and attitude. :)

Ironic bc I actually am shy so I'm not sure what to answer could I possible answer something like I tend to wait for direction on things then taking action right away and say I been working on this by doing something as soon as I realise it hasn't been done or needs to be done instead of waiting for someone to tell me it needs to be done so im working on that?! It's a store like Walmart I'm applying at

I am shy person who has social anxiety and when I work I like to do everything myself but I am seeing that has come to be a problem and when things get confrontational I shut down because I don't know how to respond properly without getting angry and want to yell which is not ok.
@dk302948
@dk302948 3 года назад
I used to be just like that. I forced myself to become a server, and also took some anger management courses. A couple years later and I am so much happier! I can take a moment when confronted, pause, breathe, and think about how I want to respond. Quite a bit of the time it turns out you just need to talk through it reasonably, and see things from the other persons perspective. Let them see where you are coming from as well! Sometimes it helps to show them a little bit of your vulnerability and tell them why you do something. If all else fails, apologize, if necessary, and walk away. Sometimes just walking away from something without saying anything at all is the best way to deal with something. As far as the serving goes, I can now approach and talk to anybody. Good luck!
