Am I the only one who thinks the junkfoodvegan is still eating relatively healthy? She even used an airfryer instead of deep fryer! I wouldn't really even consider it junk food, at least compared to all the deep fried vegan food from food trucks and restaurants out here in LA especially. I really like how she made healthy versions of junk/comfort food!
Compared to eating out it was relatively healthy but nutrition wise it wasn’t very healthy because of how many highly processed products she used! But definitely better then eating out 😊
Processed does not automatically equal bad. Most foods need some sort of processing in order to be digestible, just cooking something turns it into “processed” food. Don’t conflate her heating up some soy crumbles as the same thing as eating a bag of Doritos for dinner.
@@Bee_lze_bub calm your turnips, nothing here is a conflation. it's as evident as what she herself says in the video, she ate junk food as is the case. ofc processed doesn't equal bad but also if you knew what it takes to make store bought soy crumbles, or any of the many ingredients in her "junk food" you wouldn't be commenting this. (speaking as someone who's whole business is making commercial retail friendly vegan food)
the only "down side" i see for the junk food vegan is that her diet must be quite expensive. eating some of those mock meals like vegan cheese, vegan bacon, soyrizzo, vegan butter, vegan supermarket precooked meals and vegan wings everyday isn't economical or sustainable. also not very accessible in other parts of the world if she plans to travel to other places and still practice that sort of vegan diet
As a recently vegan strength athlete, a whole foods plant based diet works well, tons of energy. I find a 80-90% whole foods, the the rest whatever, keeps you sane, and healthy. Couldn't do the no carb thing tho lmao.
@@dinavegan Actually, when you do keto the right way, you are not hungry at all, because of the fat. Your body will go and burn fat instead of glucose.
@@maeve4056 you only need them if you are trying to maintain weight so you don't burn fat, if you're trying to lose weight then it's good because it's burning your fat as a primary source fo energy
@@PRDreams Just ignore this. I try to eat as vegan as possible, but do not worry about being perfect. Many activists vegans go back to eating meat anyway, so doing your best is better than pleasing the inconsistent.
Exactly and I hate when they’re like “I thought vegan was supposed to be healthy” like no. Vegans have junk food too. Not every little thing we eat is healthy and it doesn’t have to be. We eat junk food too.
I'm not conviced by ketogenic diets, but I'm very glad there are people showing that it can be done vegan, bc lots of ketofolk is antivegan or thinks its impossible to cut out the animal products. Also her meals look very good!
Yes! I ordered lunch for my office for about 2 years and had one guy introduce me to his friend who did keto food, but i told her i needed vegan options and she said it was impossible. They had barely acceptable vegetarian options, so it was just disappointing all around how exclusionary the Keto crowd insisted on being
@Artoria Pendragon not here to start a discussion about that ^^ If people claim that it helps them, it is none of my business why it does or why I think it shouldn't. As long as people are not harming animals, I'm ok with whatever diet they choose for themselves c:
@Artoria Pendragon well they didn't say that it doesn't work at all, they just don't believe in keto and there's nothing wrong with it. Keto won't work for everyone or not everyone will believe in keto just like not everyone believes in veganism or any other lifestyle or diet and everyone has the right to their own preferences so you don't need to be pressed about the fact that they PERSONALLY aren't keto fans.
There’s so so many youtubers who provide that content! Cheap lazy vegan, pick up limes.. look up the dish you want and I bet there’s a vegan RU-vidr who has made it!
As a dietitian, i can tell you, no it's not. It is not as bad as eating deep fried stuff from a food truck three times a day but its all proccessed, it doesnt contain veggies, fruits or wholemeal grains, theres barely fiber in there, but a lot of empty calories cuz of sugar, white flour, oils fats and proccessed foods which usually contain all three mentioned.
If u are vegan and out of ideas what to eat something new. I suggest you eating some lentil curry/ soup. With very simple and minimal ingredients which is authentically made in my country. I sharing the recipe ideas anyone's interested *Ingredients:* -Boiled lentils -Tomato -Onion -Red chili powder - turmeric -Garlic cloves/powder (I -suggest cloves for some fresh aroma) -Ginger garlic paste -Green chilies Note: Ginger garlic paste and chillies are optional but in Indian household we never miss that for some aroma You can increase or decrease the number and amount of spices according to ur taste. Direction: add 2-3 tsp oil add ur ginger garlic paste and cook for a few secs until you add tomatoes then let it soften under a lid on low flame. Then mash this bad boi. Then u can add all the spices I mentioned and the boiled lentils. Add some desired amount of water. It's usually bit on a thicker side but it doesn't matter. And voila we're done! I didn't mention any quantity of each item as u can simply vary it according to taste and serving sizes. Remember it's not a sensitive recipe that can get spoiled if u don't add the right amount of ingredients. Enjoy!
@@nicole-gd2yv If you see the other videos she’s in, she gets a decent amount of fruit overall. I think this was just showing some of the meals that she eats that are most characteristic of the whole food diet.
If your reasons for going vegan are ethical, doing your homework about where and how your food was grown is vital. Many crops have a disproportionately bad impact on the environment because of various factors, such as how much water they require or how much energy was used to ship them. It is possible for a vegan to have a larger carbon footprint than someone who eats meat if you aren't careful. Just saying, the diets featured in this video might not be as ethical as they appear.
@@Kteanhle Well I don't agree that your lifestyle is ethical if you don't also take your environmental impact into account. I'm not anti-vegan or something, just saying that a truly ethical lifestyle is one that minimizes your carbon footprint as much as possible.
As someone who is not vegan, this is actually very enlightening to me that there are different kinds of vegans with different diets as well. That’s fascinating to me and these recipes look delicious!
I'm vegan since 1990 and if it's plant based- it'll be in my belly. I eat my raw goodies, my HOT soothing and nutritious legumes and yes- even my vegan junk food on my days off like today. And I'm healthy and satisfied and ZERO deficiencies. :)
@@audreyhogan8285 Thank you Audrey and thank you @Allie. Yes, I was born in 77 and became vegan in a time when I didn't even know that the word existed. It was called strict vegetarian back in those days and it is honestly the best decision I made.💚
I prefer sweet potatoe pancakes over regular pancakes.. and there is sweet potato mix :'). Its sweet and has protien and fiber in them. Plus i felt like. (In my opinion) thry make me feel fullier and happiet
So proud of you! I know people sometimes find the transition hard but your body will thank you so much, look on Netflix at what the health, game changers, seaspiracy and cowspiracy and it tells you all about veganism, you got this! I can't wait for an update, good luck!
Not only are there as many ways to eat plant-based as there are people but each and every one of them can be nutritious and delicious! Also. Isn't it amazing how much healthier and more colorful a vegan keto diet can be than a conventional one?! Love all the vibrant and fiber-rich ingredients!
The junk food vegan is not even bad, it's like how must of us vegans started, with processed vegan food so the transition wasn't so bad. Right now I eat more like the Whole Foods girl
I eat pretty much everything in this video. I do try to be as WFPB as I can during the week but I don’t shy away from some processed vegan junk food on the weekends. I notice that my cravings for mock meats has definitely decreased a ton. I do have trouble cooking without oil but it’s a work in progress :)
I used to demonize oil, but then I decided not to! My relationship with food is better, my blood markers haven't deviated, and my weight and energy levels haven't changed. You do you; there is no one-size-fits-all and I think that's the point of this video.
I would say try not to stress too much on the oil one. It's pretty easy to sub in baking. When cooking, I'll still use oil if I need to make a roux, but if I'm making a brothy soup that will be mostly water anyway, may as well just water saute. There can be a balance!
Keto is 70% fat. Just make your diet 70% fat and 5% carbs and you are eating a true, by definition keto diet. Anything less is defined as low carb. Drown everything in oil. No thank you 😉
@@Marta_is_here it's not necessarily that strict. That's one way to go about it but the amount of carbs you can eat and stay in ketosis is different for everyone. If you're in ketosis, that's all that matters.
@@rebeccamartin1858No, that’s literally the definition of keto. (70/25/5) The ketogenic diet is used therapeutically predominately for children with epilepsy. Then picked up by diet culture because of the whole weight loss thing. So, I can tell you, as a licensed holistic nutritionist what a keto diet is. A high fat, low carb diet is not by definition “keto”. It’s HFLC. Two different things. It’s just that the word keto has become an easy word to use because saying HFLC is a mouthful. It (the word keto) is being used wrong. You are making up your own definition. Being in ketosis is fine for you, you can be in ketosis doing HFLC 😉
@@Marta_is_here if it's puts you in ketosis, it's a ketogenic diet, not necessarily the therapeutic ketogenic diet, as there are many variations. And the amount of carbs someone can consume and still be in ketosis varies vastly from person to person. I'm very aware of all the different variations of keto and the history, as I did therapeutic keto for years for a neurological condition. But thanks for the unnecessary lesson and condescension 😊
I think I would describe my diet as 70% whole food plant-based. Breakfast ranges from whole food oat muffins to bagels to overnight oats. In my opinion, it matters most that you enjoy your food while getting your nutrients in. Just don't force yourself to eat kale salad if you would rather have a pizza (pizza can be healthy too)
There is no way her diet is sustainable. It's too restrictive which leads to breaking the diet, and it didn't even reach the minimum recommended calories for a woman (1,500).
Where can we get the recipes?! All of these meals are healthy and balanced. There’s good, better and best- eating plant based can meet everyone’s nutritional needs and preferences!!
I'm not trying to be "that" person, but the full fat coconut milk Maya was using while making her breakfast comes from a company that uses monkeys to pick their coconuts.
I legit thought you were trolling but apparantly it's a practice in Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and India. And in some of these cocunut farms not all (apparantly) there is clear animal abuse.
Thanks for the comment. I think it's great to help people learn. It can be frustrating to learn a product you thought was vegan wasn't, but it happens.
i ate like the whole foods vegan and lost 100 lbs doing it for 2 years. then i got into a relationship and my diet started looking more like the junk food vegan + 20 lbs which is also fine. but keto vegan i tried for a week i couldn't do it :(
I have loads of suggestions! I cook vegan dishes for non vegans and they LOVE all of these: breakfast: french toast (chia seeds, oat milk, cornstarch, bread, crushed cereal, cinnamon sugar, vegan butter, maple syrup). Lunch: fried "chicken" sandwich with french fries (jackfruit/rice paper/tons of spices/liquid smoke chicken). Snack: cheesy nachos (potato/carrot/nutritional yeast cheese sauce & tofu crumble for ground beef). Dinner: creamy "ricotta" pasta (sauce from soaked cashews and tofu)
The one problem I have with the Keto diet is that they avoid natural sugar from fruits. Absolute crazy if you ask me the body definitely needs fruits sugar and vitamin c and all the other amazing vitamins you get from fruits....
Mya's orange and white kitty has the same name as my orange and white kitty! Bunny! Only my Bunny has long fur. And her name is actually Marina-Bunny, though she goes by Bunny. Yay, Bunny kitties! 💖🐾💖🐾
Gotta change those oils! She used the worst 2 oils to cook with. Olive oil & coconut oil. They change properties when over high heat and become super unhealthy, like canola oil or veg oil. Grapeseed oil or sunflower seed oil are really good frying oils
I personally find that eating majority fat and protein (keto) causes weight gain. My personal goal is to lose fat and gain a bit of muscle. I’m vegan and currently on a low fat - fat free and low gi diet which really seems to work. I’ve lost a good amount of fat and a bit of weight so far too.
They all look so good. I've been craving soups. Thinking of potato soup with veggies and white beans. ☺️ Our store I think just added those miracle noodle and mushroom noodles.
I'm not vegan but I would like to incorporate more vegetarian and vegan meals to substitute healthier options and I would actually like to try several of these. Great video 🥗 🌮 😊
My personal vegan day: 5 cups of tea throughout 7-10 am (tea with a bit of almond milk, Chobani vegan creamer, and some non-sugar sweetener) 1 pm popcorn and a lollipop (non buttered) About 9pm I have a large think of lettuce with vegan Caesar dressing and croutons. Then i might have more tea
i’m sorry but vegan-keto is WAY too restrictive, plant based is mostly carbs and most of the protein sources contain carbs aswell. How are people not pointing this out? the keto diet requires mostly animal foods she can eat however she wants but if this was someone i know i would be really worried because if you’re gonna go on a diet as restrictive as plant based(which i respect) you need to have a wide variety of food options, not restricting like 10x more by doing keto!!!
"Diet as restrictive as plant based" ?? What? I literally eat healthier and more varied food now than I ever did as a meat eater. And my body can tell the difference. I've gotten way more gains on a plant based diet, my chronic stomach issues are all gone, hormonal levels are in way better check these days too. Plant Based Keto is absolutely a thing that is possible, but since carbs is literally the most important thing a human can eat, I prefer a carb heavy diet. Makes everything in life easier too, and blood sugar levels are better off with it too!
Im not trying to sound rude but homegirl was on the heavier side. I noticed when she said that the vegan keto diet works for her body which let's me know that she tried other diets but failed. Not every diet is for everyone and our bodies are all different. Perhaps the vegan keto works for her.
Right, she should just go whole food plant based. She will get healthier and then obviously lose the weight she wants. Keto isn't something you can do long term.
@@Eanaj9 yes girl i get it but my point is this shouldn’t be promoted as a normal diet and that it is way too restrictive considering it’s not for medical reasons/recommended by a doctor, even for someone who’s looking to lose weight. i know nothing about her or her journey like i said she can eat how she wants, i’m only pointing out that it isn’t practical or maybe even safe for the majority and shouldn’t be talked about as such.
@@MagnusSohlberg you don’t have to tell me, i don’t eat meat either, i do agree and it’s much better for me. but you can’t deny it is restrictive as the majority who has been having meat and animal byproducts their whole life! “plant based keto is absolutely a thing that is possible” well yeah, any diet that won’t kill you is possible but that doesn’t mean it’s practical nor that it should be promoted. I don’t know what you’re trying to defend tbh because as you said carbs are very important, if you’re trying to defend veganism you don’t have to because i’m with you on that, i’m only concerned about viewers who might thing this a normal way to eat (if not advised by a doctor)
Omg i loved this, i am vegan too, i eat whole foods plant based foods and share that on my yt channel, but i would love to join on some of these videos
Honestly I didn’t know keto vegan was possible, the whole plant vegan recipes looked delicious and super nutritious but unless you got enough time to prep/cook and knowledge about cooking it will be challenging, the junk vegan its an easier way to start your vegan journey.
i find standard salads so boring but the lass from the "$5 VS $35 PIZZA" video made that salad of hers look SOOOO EXCITING with all those colours & textures! It looked 100% DELICIOUS & soooo EASY that i reckon even i could make it!
It’s definitely possible, I think you’d just have to cook nearly all of your meals yourself and eat a lot of the same things. Eating out might be difficult. But all you need is a protein source, veg, and some fat.
@@katcuzzi Well where is her protein? A little bit of almond milk in her breakfast, a bit of peanut butter with lunch? She does add tempeh and tofu noodles but this is not nearly enough. I predict she will eventually have health problems.
Besides all the other eating disorders, compulsive "healthy eating" ist also one, called orthorexia (so for those with fear of sugar, fats and wheat flour bread)
About a year ago, I was diagnosed with PCOS.For several years, I had gained a lot of weight, felt tired, and had problems with anxiety. I had tried other diets but never managed to stick with them in the long term. After doing some research on PCOS, I came across an article about keto and found the motivation to give low carb a try. I wanted to improve my lifestyle and health and going keto definitely did.
I’m definitely the junk food vegan!! I always wondered did other vegans eat like me because that’s like 98% of my meals and whole food vegan the rest 🤣🤣🤣
Ugh yessss! I used to eat exactly like the junk food vegan diet, but I’m trying to lose weight now so I’m trying more Whole Foods into my diet and liking it so far :)
Only been vegan for a month and it’s been a bit difficult to balance because I have nut allergies and severe gluten intolerance. Ive just been eating salads and smoothies or roasted veggies lol.
Vegan and gluten free is a real struggle. I've found a few meat replacements that made my life easier. The soy chorizo from trader Joe's is amazing, I also really like the garden black bean burgers that are gf. It's good to have a few things on hand that you can throw together. I've been doing a lot of sauteed or air fried tofu or roasted chickpeas on my salads. I like to make a chia pudding with whatever milk you want but add flax seeds and hemp hearts!
@@rebeccamartin1858 thank you! I’ve found actual burgers are great and I love the soy chorizo from TJ as well. I think an air fryer would help immensely. App register the feedback and wish you a great day!💕✨
Health is about balance and what each person needs to be their healthiest is very different from person to person. But sugar or calorie counts are never going to be the determining factor.
