What ever happened to the children of the most evil men in history? Some of their stories may surprise you. While we all learn about history's worst villains in school, it's rare that we hear anything about their descendants. Some of the offspring of these hated men have followed in their famous fathers' footsteps to become brutal leaders and dictators, undoubtedly making their parents proud.
Yet, there are also the tales of children who do whatever they can to separate themselves from their nefarious relatives...

Herman Goering's brother, Albert, was basically the opposite. Albert Goering was a businessman who rescued Jews and other minorities from the gas chambers and even helped clean the streets with Jews as a middle finger to the Nazis. Any time he got into trouble, he used his brother's name to clear himself. Once he was put in charge of the Skoda Works factory in Czechoslovakia, he intentionally had the products sabotaged and constantly contacted the resistance. He used his influence to ensure many Jews escaped to safety by forging documents with his brother's name on them. He was caught and put to trial in 1945 because of his name, but people vouched for his good deeds. He was vehemently anti-Nazi till death, and he died after giving his pension and money to his maid. I still feel sad about reading his story, and it just sucks he was part of such a disgusting family, and not many people knew of his excellent work until recently.

i don't expect these sons/daughters to feel guilt or shame, they themselves didn't do anything wrong, they were mere children. however, i can't help but cringe at how Edda Göring talks about her psychopathic father. plus the fact that she expected compensation for items he plundered.

A psychopath can be very two-faced. She only saw him as a loving father and it's within her rights to think of him fondly. I understand her loyalty to the person who only treated her well. And I understand if she wanted to look the other way when it comes to the atrocities he committed. I can only imagine how heartbreaking it would be to accept that as the truth. There is probably a name for this psychological phenomenon.
@pramaroy5289

A person can remember their father as loving to them and acknowledge how much of a monster they were. It's not a mutually exclusive concept... asking for looted items to be returned really seems like above and beyond shamelessness. I highly doubt they were the only things she had left from her father - it's probably just greed and a bad sense of entitlement

I read a biography on Mao that said that he and his wife produced at least two children (on two seperate occasions) that they had to give away to some peasants since Mao and his spouse were living with his army, who were currently fighting the Nationalists (the latter child being born during the Long March). Adolf Hitler was a teetotaler, vegetarian, and a lover of animals especially his own dog. Pablo Escobar donated millions of his ill gotten wealth to the poorest people in Columbia, Genghis Khan was remarkably tolerant of of the local cultural, religious, and economic practices of the lands he conquered provided they bend the knee and even Nero was hailed by his contemporaries for his economic reforms, cultural construction projects, and very man of the people involvement in all of the above. I believe the driving force behind their behavior is the same as any deluded, self-important, narcissistic egomaniac; fear and insecurity. They’re afraid the world conspires against them to take what they care about. They must project power and charisma to provide cover for their internal inadequacy. They manipulate people to meet their ends. It’s less of a failure of the individual than it is a failure of people at large for not recognizing these traits as the telltale characteristics of a terrible person to follow. It’s really only when people follow them or give them power that they can commit atrocities

My paternal grandmother was a product of Lebensborn, it was the Nazi program to boost birth rates and population the Aryan race. She never knew her father. I don't know how she felt about her origins. She never spoke of it to anyone. My dad and his sister said their Grandmother was a wonderful woman. I find that weird considering she had a son in the SS and two daughters with Nazi soldiers to help "the cause". My father grew to loath his German heritage and the association with anything Nazi related. So much so that he married a Jewish woman, my mother, and had 3 Jewish children. Finding these things out was very surreal. My DNA contains both the Jewish blood of Those who died and the German blood of those who killed them. America is wild like that.

Apparently, the Nazis tried to use him as a bargaining chip. We were also shown the separate barracks where he and other noteworthy political prisoners were kept. As prisoners, they were treated relatively humanely, in contrast to the Jews, Poles and Gypsies, who were victims of far harsher treatment and even experimentation.

She may not have been "permitted" or been able to afford it before that age. Many women are denied that type of treatment if they wish to do so without a serious medical reason (such as cancer). About a year ago I saw a documentary on the children/descendants of nazi generals & politicians. I was surprised to hear that many had gone to the US and stopped their family lines. One man who's father ran a concentration camp met with the descendants of those who had been kept there during ww2 and they agreed that he was not guilty of anything that his father had done. it was very emotional, it's sad to think that some people fear that their families past may create "monsters" in the future, leading to serialisation since arguably people are not guilty of their ancestors doings.

Having yourself sterilized due to the sins of your ancestors is ridiculous. Every human on Earth shares ancestry with several terrible people (infamous, remembered or not). We are all individuals. Good, even great people can rise from a terrible lineage and terrible people can arise from a good lineage. To live with the guilt of the deeds of your predecessors is a terrible and unnecessary burden to bear - especially for these unfortunate people. Instead of sterilization and avoidance, I would embrace the dark past of my ancestry and work to change my family's legacy to something better. Our name would no longer suffer the burden of the sins of our fathers/mothers, but would be known for something better. A family that learned from the deeds of it's ancestry and became something completely opposite for what it had become infamous for. ...Or I would quietly remove myself from any limelight and seek to just be a normal, uninteresting family with a past that faded from general memory. Leave the past in the past - my (and future) generations had nothing to do with it, anyway But to each their own, I suppose.

Thought the same thing. Evil isn’t genetic, it’s a choice. None of these wicked people were born wicked. They all made choices that set them on that path. The fact that most of the descendants could recognize that, shows they know the difference between good and evil. They are not doomed to be their parents.
