Ellie no. I’ve been cleaning my house like crazy. I’m paranoid because my neighbour had bedbugs and they did the powder in the sockets and I’m praying they are not in my house. I’ve been cleaning and gutting the place. Lol
Kelly Henderson I had bed bugs exactly one year ago and it was a nightmare. The last few weeks I’ve been getting bites. Today I am cleaning my room and I’m finding these carpet beetles. It is so stressful and uncomfortable
Ellie apparently this building I live in is infested. We had cockroaches in here a couple years ago. They were coming up the drain. I told the landlord and they were like I’ve never seen one. So I snapped a pic and sent it to him. Anyway needless to say they had exterminators in the building. I’ve seen them a few times still. Never bedbugs. Just the odd stink bug coming in from outside, house centipede, wheat weevils in my kitchen and now the odd carpet beetle. I’ve been vacuuming a lot. I check my bed regularly to make sure I don’t have bedbugs. I also have those wallflowers in my outlets from bath and body works. I think the oil scents will prob deter them. But I’m not sure.
The Dermestidae are a family of beetles that are more commonly known as skin beetles, larder beetles, hide beetles, leather beetles and carpet beetles. The ones I've seen are either solid black or a mixed of brown, white, and black [I often refer to that as the camo beetle]. According to online they eat skins, furs, feathers, wool, hair and dead insects, and cotton. The beetles have wings and can fly, you may find they fly into your hair or find them on your bed; bed sheets are made of cotton so they try to eat that, and they also will cry on your legs or arms eating the hair or fly into your hair to eat some hair. Where I live in Arkansas, they show up late February [last week] early March [first week], they are usually gone by May. They have a habit of fitting into something closed and dark, for example a fishing tackle box under your bed, maybe a box you had under the bed, or some dvd cases etc. Even if something is closed good they can still manage to find their way into it if there is just the tiniest little crack/space in it, then you find a bunch larval shells i.e. where they were birthed at.
bed bugs are just one spot, and it’s a lot cheaper to have them removed. carpet beetles are everywhere, your bed, your hair, your wall, your clothes, your window, under your bed, your drawers, carpet, cracks, everywhere bro.
Yup, ABC gets an "expert" to come discuss a pest (other than the ones that we can already identify, like ants, roaches etc) & instead of showing a video or even just a picture of the bug, he gives a vague & utterly useless description instead... >> Congratulations on producing a segment that somehow taught your viewers Absolutely NOTHING!!!
Sprinkle Borax Laundry booster on carpets then Vacuum. Do this daily for a couple of weeks. Clean up windows and doorways and Spray windowsills and entranceways with vinegar and water mixture. Place sticky traps on the floor in corners near windows and and doorways around your home. Plain are fine but Pheromone sticky traps work best because they attract them. They'll surely diminish if you keep up the cleaning. Oh, clean on and under baseboards. Steam carpet if you can. Clean vacuum often. PS... Adult carpet beetles look like little lady bugs but their light brown and spotted almost like a camouflage pattern. The larvae have narrow little worm like hairy bodies. In the pupae stage they are shorter in length and more oval shaped. They resemble little grubs and are not hairy. Finally, don't throw away your clothes. Wash and dry them in a hot dryer or dry clean them. 😇👍
@@diane7912 appreciate it!!! Every other RU-vid video has been not telling me anything and I'm bug hunting them 4 am right now found five within 1 hr and a half and haven't found others but I've never seen any in my life so took me a while to find out they were carpet beetle the hairy small slow kind. Will try the methods you suggested thanks 🙏
@@Andy22905 I Understand, believe me. I couldn't sleep for a few nights. I made my bed up using white sheets so I could easily see them. But I promise you if you put borax laundry booster on carpet and vacuum daily, that alone will get rid of them. In a few days to 2 week time they'll all die. It kills the eggs too. They're harmless by the way. They don't bite and are very small unlike bedbugs and roaches! It'd rather contend with carpet beetles anyday. Good luck. Oh and please KEEP BORAX LAUNDRY BOOSTER AWAY FROM food and especially CHILDREN!.

When I found my problem with this issue IT LOOKED ALMOST LIKE lady bug " ... Meaning this was the carpet beetles adult size however it's color is color is brown speckled ... I'm at my wits end with them ... Doesn't matter how clean I keep my room, they continue to invade my space and multiply within two weeks if you DO NOT VACUUM ALMOST DAILY ... Hope this help.
Renee thanks Renee. I’m having the same issues. At first I thought they were baby lady bugs, mine were black with tiny white dots. Ugh!! Come to find out they are carpet beetles 😳🤮
@@ReigningWomban just glad they are not major disease vectors, but it is frightening all the same. Nasty pests. And that allergy problem has been cited. They really are nasty pests. Not everyone is allergic. Just clean up, lol
Ah, another thing I do is use a sticky lint roller or masking tape to go over my sheets and pillows right before I get in. I am using the Allerease pillow cases and I have a mattress protector on. Most stuff is cotton, so I am experimenting with polyester and Microfiber instead even though it feels yuck.
How did you get a lot of them on your clothes. Where do you keep your clothes might i ask? Because i have a blazer hanging in my closet and i believe i found one on it today and it took me forever to kill it but eventually i did. I was thinking either a carpet beetle, gnat or flea. And no matter what i searched i kept getting carpet beetle. But now since they like dark places and i have totes in my closet where i keep my clothes im trying to be more careful....I was actually shocked that it was on it. Because at larvae stage they dont fly. And i am considering throwing it away because it is a bit small and its just nasty to think about. What if theres more , usually where theres one theres more. And as far as i read that is where the mother likes to lay her eggs. On wool and some cotton and leather. Im scared for my other pieces of clothing next to it because its a leather jacket and a silk blazer ( at least i think) which are all materials they like. But the leather is fake so im not too sure of how that would work. This is the third one ive found and have dealt with this before in a different place. ITS ALL JUST FREAKING ME OUT :( They may seem like nothing or just a nuisance but once there is a lot crawling up your walls and theres too many too kill at once and you think you kill them all and the next day its the same amount.... It gets exhausting.
@@kiacarter93 I know you’re not talking to me, but I’ve experienced the same problem as they did. Mines happened because I put clothing inside the wooden drawers and left it untouched for a month. I opened it and I fount out it was an infestation of Carpetbeetle larvae’s, hair, and they nibbled a bit of my clothes.
To anyone reading : there is one can of RAID that lists black carpet beetles as their second type of pest that it kills. I bought some at Winco and it was about $5.00 They also have a RAID fogger for $10 that will work on a room that is at least 5x5. But fogger shouldn't be used in vehicles smaller than a camper.
@@DoctorFashion I have been having tremendous success with white vinegar. I have all tile floors so I am mopping frequently with a solution of at least 70 percent vinegar and 30 water. I think I am getting the larva as well. Eggs are tough but killing off as many adults as possible so they can't reproduce. I am on the Gulf Coast of FL. Never had this issue before.
All over my room. Once forgot to dispose of a taco I had been eating a few days earlier, discovered it when cleaning and was HORRIFYIED to see them running around all over the rotting meat! Found an old book and it had HOLES drilled into the pages! Scary bugs, glad they are harmless! Protect your food though! Contamination, nausea!
I am curious whether they were the black ones or the varied. In my experience, the black ones seem to like the food and kitchen area most and the varied love the fabrics. I am in FL.
im allergic to them! i got rashes and thought they were bites! scared myself silly! there were attracted to my silk sheet, i locked it away for a year to get rid of their food and the beetles are gone for now. im scared to ever use my silk sheet again tho D: alot of people are transitioning to natural beddings and stuff rather than using cheaper synthetics (polyester based) so i feel carpet beetles will become a common pest in the future.
If you’re allergic, and you’re experiencing an infestation make sure to call the pest control! If you don’t want to, I suggest wearing long pants, long sleeved shirt, shoes, and a mask then try to vacuum them!
I have scared myself into numerous panic attacks over the rash I got and tore my whole house apart thinking I had bed bugs, they only thing I could find was a BUNCH of these in my room. 😩
just destroy their food source and if they are still in the home, they scurry away really quickly if one cleans up. It happened to me as well, a good cleaning, and they at least vanish. I took them out, lol. But it was some work.
I have these in my car now. They showed up one day and they do multiple very quickly. I'm wondering if peppermint essential oil will choke them. That works for spiders and ants.
I gave them in my car now too. They’re ruining my fucking life I hate them I’m paranoid that everything I see is one cuz they’re so DAMN SMALL!!!!! how did you get rid of them
@@Lemoncare How did tossing everything work out? I have been throwing so much away, any clothes that are too pilled. I also use a lint shaver and go over the seams of clothes. They really seem to like cotton/spandex leggings so I have them binned separately from all other clothes. Everything in bins, but they are eating the sheets and my and my cat's hair like mad.
I am used to seeing these in the appartment I live in. I actually caught a jar of the little larva to get a closer look at them. Was curious and put food in the jar to watch them eat. I will release them far from home later but there not that gross looking.
M G I have a jar in my room full of them. Whenever I find one I scoop it up and into the jar it goes. My bedroom has lots of furniture and things so I’m not sure how to even approach getting rid of them
I wonder what’s giving me random bites at night. I swear I can feel them by sometimes but then I look at my bed and everything and I don’t see one at all. In my old nightstand I found a huge cluster of shells so I know at least in my old apartment there was a massive amount that were born. Still. Never seen one or definitely never seen a infestation
Trevor Lammie does these beetles get in your skin or turn into long strings gathering anything it can? I feel sprays of liquid like they spray! Sometimes puddles of sticky and sweet stuff appear on tile and then it turns hard, some times you cant remove it am concernd it gets into electrial outlets! Can you tell me what this , is please?
Yeah, once you clean everything up, they tend to gather together in any area left they can find. Helps in getting rid of more of them though, as they are all in one place, well, many of them.
Did u ever get rid of them same happemed to me i saw a few under my ac killed the ones i saw 7 months later i saw a bunch in my window sills landlord sprayed helped some i stuck down baking soda i think its helping some but i want them gone like now. I heard one beetle can hatch 100 eggs at a time that means they will infest a home fast.
Kelly Henderson if they are coming up the drain.. the are probably drain flys . That’s what a professional told me. They came in under my kitchen window. Look it up on line. I also have carpet beetles but these look entirely different and they said they were harmless. But not when I can’t tell the difference in a carpet beetles and them since I have seen both get in a tiny flat ball thinking you can’t see them. It has been and still is a nitemar
I'm from southern england and i just discovered tonight what these things are, I am too scared to go to sleep i am petrified of bugs. I found three on my monday and tonight. They look just like bed bugs with wings. My mum is in France and I have no money for the ferry so will be sleeping in the bath, Scary!

1. Wash any sheets/fabric in the infested area 2. Vacuum 3. If that doesn't help, then consider setting up sticky bug traps or calling in a professional (though I don't recommend calling in somebody unless the situation is severe)
Okay he was asked what kind of spray to kill them and he didn't answer is he working for pest control company because if he is I think you should be fired if he doesn't know what's going to kill these bugs possibly he won't be able to do his job appropriately I'm giving this dislike because I hate bugs and I hate people that are specific on how to kill bugs
Why would he say millipede? Or bed bug look a like ?!? Most of them are brown and white spotted making them look odd like tiny beetles... millipedes are long as fuck. Then, bed bugs obviously are a light brown or yellow ish transparent tiny creepy thing. These aren’t scary st all but still gross. Nice scare tactics buddy. It’s just random if you get them and you alone can get rid of them easily just look up the guide on RU-vid. Actually they look like lady bugs but just a different color and a bit smaller...
Why you all sooo fking cry babies about a damn harmless carpet bug???!! I mean carpet bugs are nothing compared to the real bed bugs that will get inside your skin like hungry giant fleas. A carpet bug will rarely attack and bite you unless you have a bed extremely infested which will mean that you don't ever clean your mattress, sheets, pillows and blankets. This little bugs I have found theme here and there mostly on areas that I rarely move, they are to me like termites, harmless bugs with the difference that termites go for the wood and carpet bugs go for humid linens, all you have to do is keep your carpets clean and fully dry and vented after cleaning, vacuum your mattress using the hose wand regularly and wash your blankets, sheets and pillow covers regularly also. If it is really infested, use a bug spray and spray all over your mattress and carpet wait one day and vacuum everywhere then use clean everything on your bed again. To keep it bug free after that You can also spray some Lysol antibacterial around your room before you go to work, close windows and doors and open everything to vent when you come back for a couple hrs before going to sleep, but most important: DON'T BE A PIG!
